I'm 62 and big music junkie. Classically trained in piano. This is my forever favorite song. It is perfect in every way. Well-earned Grammy. These guys are musical geniuses.
So in the middle third of this song, yes, Danny is exploring different rhythm patterns and Adam is given free reign to do anything and everything. But my favorite element, honestly, is _Justin_ laying down _5 full minutes_ of a sick, simple, rock solid groove.
Wait until you hear this track the next time you listen to it… and then the next time…. then the next… There is so much going on but sounds perfectly together. One of the many things that I love about Tool, is that in every track, you can hear each one of them at the same time. 🤘🏻🌀
I have an hypothesis. Aldous Huxley wrote Antic Hay a century ago, almost to the year. In it, there's a paragraph; "Seven million people... ...in an empested atmosphere" Seven, empest.
they definitely are able to do that, but it won't fit with the band's philosophy.. FI is about that at all, that's the final.. and that was a beautiful spiral path by starting and ending at the same point: Opiate this is my opinion, but i think that could be appropriate for SOAD.. Serj is like a wounded prisoner chained to the rest of the band members and they can't bear with him anyway.. John, Daron and Shavo have gained so much experience and they have many things to say during these years (( One of the important key factors that i love and respect TOOL, is that they were able to keep the band after a long break and the FI has born.. besides that they are really good at their 60s (just not like System's vocalist 😢)
Adam is a special effects artist for film and you can hear that influence bleed over into his music. Dude is never really overly flashy but his style and tone are a massive part of this band's overall sound. He does a lot texturally that necessarily isn't the way a guitarist would approach the song. I've always thought he had the eeriest sounding guitar tone of all time also... It just sounds haunted and honestly kind of lonely
czcams.com/video/HL_NZYDMyIg/video.html 1:07. 42 If you want to see it played. This kid is a Top tier Artist. He plays the entire Fear album straight through with very few mistakes.
Remember when we were talking about 7 minute tool songs? 😂…. This newer album was a beast… but what do you expect after a 13 years hiatus from these guys? 👍
I don't know if MJK is himming at the beginning or not. I thought it was just part of the guitar tone being allowed to ring, but since you pointed it out, it _does_ sound a lot like him. And he's done that kind of thing before. Eulogy's intro, for example.

It is insane, I feel like without any musical education/experience you cannot really appreciate 100% how good it is!
Listening to this song in a thunder storm is a surreal experience 🤯
I bet
I love this song. I love that my favorite band won a Grammy for a 15+ minute song. Kind of out of this world really.
Crazy.
Adam is the master of feedback!! 💨🥦🌀😎

Thanks Ted. Hope you had a great 4th
By the time that first drop hits my pulse starts racing; by the end of the song I am EXHAUSTED!!! So good.
I feel like that when i listen to Invincible, The Patient and Pushit!!
A Grammy award winning Masterpiece!
Like all of FI, this song is so fucking good live.
I think the band said F it, we're going to have some fun and make a BANGER
Isn't that what they always do?
@@PongGod Yes, but this one is different, in a good way
There's a live version of Descending where he extended his vocals into the second half, that was instrumental
I'll check it out
Adam said he had been holding onto many of these riffs since the 90s
Crazy
i saw this live..
i really had a little doubt about this, but Adam did that..
this album is unbeatable, i would say incomparable..
I have an hypothesis.

Seven, empest.
🤔. Good theory.
Nice hearing Adam stretch after 30 years.
🤣🤣
It's a symphony
Damn right! 😅
To me its a perfect song
❤❤❤ fanfntastic masterpiece❤ This is my favorite from FI, Culling voices is 2nd😊
Hello Susie
@@B-Drags-Den hey👋
Eddie Van Halen went to a Tool gig to watch this. He passed a few months later.
So sad. R.I.P
Tool should release at least one instrumental album before they retire.
That would be cool.

It does
Maynard is almost beat boxing in this. It's pretty great!
Also, what time signature is that......yes.
Only they know. 🤣🤣
Adam Jones is that guy
Agreed

Adam could make the guitar mimic his voice.
Please react to DESCENDING LIVE extended lyrics. And DIVORCED by the MELVINS
Added. Thanks
Melvins! Great band and Divorced is a great tune
