Actually I put the first hole in the tank. Your right about there being 1 atmosphere of near 100% Propane in the tank at the time of the first shot. At 2500' above sea level that would equal about 13.5 PSIA. Since the upper explosive limit for propane is 9.5% by volume, it had to be ventilated with about a dozen shots before it made a puff. I was about 50 yards away with a mini 14 and could hear the sound of the expanding gases after ignition.
I pretty much figured that was gonna happen. Same thing happened with a tin coffee container, but I was using .22 short subsonic's at about 40 yards; the .22 short subsonic round is like a glorified BB gun cartridge, and only half the power of the .22LR. So I'm sure you can imagine lol.
It bounced off because you hit a round object. Round objects usually deflect rounds. However, a .22 X- caliber round will go through it if you hit it dead center. THe best place to hit a propane tank is on the valve. Sparks will ignite the gases in the canister.
It depends on the ammunition, because at 150ft, I was punching through a 1975 VW Hippy van with .22LR Blazer and Stingers out of my AR7 and my 10/22.. and at 20ft with 42GR Aguila I was punching through a 3/4ft birch tree.. a skull is 1/4in thick for most people, I am pretty sure it would easily penitrate depending on the angle.
what you do is get a road flair and stick it in the ground right next to a full tank and get about 100yards back shoot it and admire the beauty... but you gotta use somthing bigger like a 270 or 300
22 T-rex Killer super magnum awesome death bullet... lol it was a fair hit. Not quite sure what your adoring audience was expecting out of a previously perforated propane tank... Just goes to show that not everything happens the way you expect it. Thank you for this video.
.22LR is a great round. If you want to shoot through propane tanks then buy a center fire rifle. Try a .204 if you want to stay small and fast. I bet it would punch through the tank. Otherwise a .22LR and even a .22 Magnum are great for everyday use.
It's not normally a 'one-shot man stopper' kind of caliber. That's what most people mean I'm sure. Heck, I feel vulnerable carrying a .380. In a real situation, I'd much prefer to have my .40S&W rounds.
@s3import I should remember the firearm but I am not sure, I took out several that day. May of been a Ruger .22 revolver with a 5 1/2" barrel. Not sure, sorry.
to make this more fun, get a brand new porpane tank, tape a flaming stick to it and shoot it it explodes! but be cafeful and stay back i got his with shrapnel from the tank in the stomach
if you wew to get shot with a .22 at normal pistol ranges, then you wouldn't be calling it weak.. I use many .22 rim-fires and if youy can aim the a .22 will do just as gfood as any other caliber at dropping the attacker. Also The guy didn't say if he used normal viscosity .22lr rounds, or high viscoticty .22lr's, what about .22 Hyper viscosity (mini-mags) and .22 mags. I hate it when people call a .22 "Not a real caliber"
Must have been a crappy bullet, or a low velocity one. I bet if you used high-preformance rounds they would penetrate, or at least do mroe than dent it.
@NarowAR07 The .50 AE is only used with the Magnum research Desert Eagle. Now, if you've got 2000 extra dollars laying around, maybe you have one, but I doubt you do. Furthermore, who uses a pistol to BEAR hunt, much less a 2000, 7-pound, unreliable beast like that?
Just remember, bigger is not always better. For example go hunt a rabbit or the like with a larger round. You not only may destroy very edible meat bu the hole or by a destroyed bladder the bullet also may have gone through. Yo unow have bad meat and a stray round.
use rifle bolt action and on 10m you will penetrate. i dont have semi auto .22, but it would be nice if someone make test with bolt action and semi auto rifle...
Which is why the .22 is more deadly than people think. You don't get a clean in and out but rather a bullet tyhat goes in and bounces around inside.
Dangit Bobby! I'll tell you hwhat, y'all better stop shootin' my propane!
You're lucky Hank Hill didn't see you do this.
Sounds to me like he knows his shit

who clicked on this expecting to see a full tank of propane explode?

Atleast I know what body armor to wear in my next tour in Afghanistan haha... Propane steel wrapped around my body parts.
to get it to go through a tank of that size you have to use a high power rifle or shoot it in the exact same spot many times
what you do is get a road flair and stick it in the ground right next to a full tank and get about 100yards back shoot it and admire the beauty
oh i thought it would be a full propane tank boom!
As a navy seal said: If you put two in the heart and one in the head of someone he wont do the difference between 9mm or .50

I was at least 50 yards away. The biggest hazard was to the camera lens.
22 T-rex Killer super magnum awesome death bullet... lol

dang it bobby!! said hank hill
It might be different if the bottle was full of propane it would have extra stress on the bottle.
ok then, a .22 v. a .45, see who gets killed.
Ah I get the bad pun... oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. lol
@rx2tee You sir just owned him.

yeah it was probably far away and its a LR so its possible
Practice with the cheap rimfires help put the expensive centerfires on the target.
@Nwest82 Viscosity... you mean Velocity
Viscosity is the measure of resistance of fluid
anticlimax
@s3import he said 22lr, lr means long rifle, but he was prolly just using rimfie, hypervelocity 22lr would easily put a hole in that.
try that again with a solid point bullet/ full metal jacket .22lr. youd be surprised.
it may not penetrate 20 gauge steel but it can rip through your gut and tear apart your aorta in a hurry.
man. those must be 22 short if they cant shoot through propane tanks. They could easily do it at least one side if they are 22 long rifles
to make this more fun, get a brand new porpane tank, tape a flaming stick to it and shoot it it explodes! but be cafeful and stay back i got his with shrapnel from the tank in the stomach
I don't condone that behavior towards propane and propane accessories, god dangit!
@dosuloveshinata prolly not much at all imo. would look very simalure to the .22 just a bigger ding .
you just disrespected hank hill~
alls a .22 is, is a high powered pellet gun. pretty much
@shankman2000 A ricochet probably wouldn't do much damage; It's only a .22LR.
Don't want to derail your comment, but you mean "velocity"... "viscosity" is how easy or difficult a fluid can be poured... lol.
@skittlekiller
no it wont lol. my friend was using his cci's and it wouldnt go thru. just left dings on the outside. had to break out the 12 ga 000 bk
that much have been a really good shot placement or just bullshit a bear diden't even drop from a full mag with .50 AE
bet a 22lr cci mini mag would have shot through it.

Hahahah, Hank Hill would whoop your ass I tell you whut
Must have been a crappy bullet, or a low velocity one. I bet if you used high-preformance rounds they would penetrate, or at least do mroe than dent it.
...Did the propane tank just win?
lawl?
Do you not see the bullet holes inside the propane tank.
It wouldn't of exploded
not wat i was hopein to see

Viscosity or velocity?
owned
nopt to mention cheaper anmo.
hahah we live right by hadleys store is there more than one
Just remember, bigger is not always better. For example go hunt a rabbit or the like with a larger round. You not only may destroy very edible meat bu the hole or by a destroyed bladder the bullet also may have gone through. Yo unow have bad meat and a stray round.
im sorry where did the bullet bounce off the tank?
Where's the explosion?
its a 22, what are you gonna do, exactly 30-'06
velocity not viscosity
if that exploaded u wold lose ur camera
Bang!.......... FAIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
use rifle bolt action and on 10m you will penetrate. i dont have semi auto .22, but it would be nice if someone make test with bolt action and semi auto rifle...
I just accidentally my .22!!! What should i do??
@s3import um no offence but unless you have eye problems you would probably read the title
true say
propane tank 1
.22 LR 0
probably some shitty ammo
your 15 what would you know
@kvmairforce lmao
...so
