- 3 Tarp Set-up without Trees
In this video I want to show three simple and easy ways you can set-up a tarp shelter without trees.
With just a tarp, stakes, paracord and two treeking poles you can set up great shelters. If your bushcraft tours ever take you out of the bushes and above the treeline, these easy set-ups can come in handy.
The first shelter is an easy lean-to shelter. With this set-up I am using the 2 x 3m heavy duty Defender Tarp by AquaQuest. This tarp is absolutly waterproof and has up to 20 tieout points.
The second shelter is your typical a-frame. This set-up was also made with the AquaQuest tarp.
The third shelter is a tent set-up. With this set-up i used the 2,9 x 3m superlight tarp from DD hammocks. Coming in at just 460 gramms (16.2 oz) it is indeed superlight.
These set-ups are all really simple and with just a bit of practice can be set-up in under 5 minutes.
I hope you enjoy my video. Please leave a like if you got any value out of it.
Tarps used in this video:
Tarp 1: Defender Tarp - Medium (9ft 6in x 6ft 7in ) by AquaQuest
Tarp 2: DD SuperLight Tarp by DD Hammocks
No 3 works for me!
Great setup tutorial.
Very clear and easy to understand.
Many thanks for sharing.
Atb.
Take care,
Steve. 👍👍
Great set ups. Like the third one as you are protected from the weather 👍
I really love that last one! Haven’t seen that before. I have the same tarp so I need to try it asap! Thanks for the great tips!
Really clear thank you. Helpful for a tarp newbie.
Great video. Cheers & greetings from Bonnie Scotland... 🇬🇧👍🏼
Pup tent 1 end might be covered , a little, by another tiny tarp or hanging prayer shawl
or rain jacket hood top on supporting trekking pole or stick. Lean-to or pup tent side
toward wind/. rain. Blessings and Todah for peace and quiet & your time up there!
Very clear instructions and super helpful...thank you.
glad I could help
Thank you! Great video!
Big thx for this video, it was just what I was looking. 👍✌️
Very easy to understand!
on the tent setup I put the rear pole outside the middle rear of the tarp and use a paracord line from the loop on top of the tarp.
this means you only have one pole inside the tarp and more room for groundsheet etc.
Very helpful info. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for this, Jesse, really useful.
Hey, so let me know what set-up is your favorite and why? Thanks for watching.
I was thinking you could bring two tarps and bring a foot to put under your treck pole so it doesn't puncture the bottom tarp. Steak-Out the top tarp, put the ground tarp in the put in center pole and boom!
Informative and beneficial video
Thanks
Pointer- On the last setup, to avoid the center pole and allow you to place an optional ground cover, join your two poles in an A-frame configuration across the entrance and stake straight out from the opening. Gives you great unobstructed area then inside.
Thanks for the great tip

Excellent tip.👍👍
Really helpful. Thank you
@JesseMartyOutdoors hey man what kind of poles did you use in this video or what kind of poles do you suggest on using? I have never used a tarp system, but am looking to use the 2nd setup in the weeks to come.. thx
On the 3rd one, are the tops of the poles in the same spot, or at two separate points?
on your 3rd tarp -are you placing two walking sticks side by side. It appears you're using two sticks, right?
yes, I'm using two sticks. the one in the back is a little lower than the front one.
@@jessemartyoutdoor6938 thanks. great video, friend.
How may poles did he put in the last one
I used two poles
@@jessemarty3474 ok thanks
@@jessemarty3474 and also can you use a bigger tarp for it
