For the ones expecting for this tutorial, let me know what you thought of it!
Hello. You have become my number 1 go to channel for Overclocking guides. Could you please make one of these for the 3080? I would even be willing to pay to have mine done or let it be used to make the video.
This is good, basically what I expected for overclocking. I had similar results with my Founder's card. Although I think you could've gone in depth of underclocking and making the card more power efficient while at the same time minimizing performance loss but another day I guess.
Any advice on undervolting or is it not worth it?
Verry helpfull . Crash at 150mh and stabil on 140 mhz and 1000 memory. Greetings from Germany
@@mr_playstar7087 Thank you for watching :D
As a total of noob that just picked up the Omen 45L, I super appreciated this video. So much to learn!
Little bit of advice on the power settings for NVIDIA. I used you for help when I had my 5700XT as I was new to AMD but I’ve been overclocking with NVIDIA for awhile. The core voltage DOES NOT raise the actual voltage. It tells the gpu “hey if you need this to perform better under the max voltage limit I’m allowing this percentage more.” But it will never allow it to go over the max voltage, I think it’s 1.093 or something. Always cap it out. Chances are it won’t always make a difference but it won’t burn your card up either👍🏻
I'm glad you commented, because this confused me as well. As an OC noob, I watched this tutorial first... then later watched MSI's own in-depth Afterburner tutorial. And, the very first thingn they did was max the Core Voltage. I was confused.
my 3070 has 109 on power limit. and seems stable with core +150.
This was a GREAT video. It was very easy to understand and I saw results right away. I'm happy I found you and your content. 🤩
This takes me back. I found your channel trying to overclock my Nitro + 5700XT back in 2019 when I built my first pc and used the Radeon software for overclocking and on the 6800XT, now this pops up as I'm trying to mess around a bit with a 4090. I do prefer the built in Radeon Software overclocking feature more but the msi Afterburner is cool too although I'm not very familiar with it.
Btw, Just checked now and the video has audio but the quality is BAD! Damn youtube said it was fine and it is still rendering lol
You helped my fps by a long shot with this one
As an EVGA card owner, I prefer to use Precision X. It's better in every department except the undervolting part - that I always set up in Afterburner, then load the settings into Precision lol.
Just checked now and it has audio but the quality is BAD! Damn youtube said it was fine and it is still rendering lol
thank you so much very straight forward and understandable thank you. do you make other videos to improve pc performance?
i did some, you can watch my video section :D
Don't forget to set a custom fan curve prior to running OC scanner.
Great video!
Thanks
Hi Nice video there. I have the same system CPU 5600x and msi 3070 hardware. Do you have any recommend setting for world of warcraft or any video?
ty bro for giving me the right settings
Happy New yr.! Thx on informative video. Though when I start my aftaburner overlay, I do not have option to raise temp. Any clues, hints on what to do? Didn't see it in tutorial.
Happy new year. The temp raises automatically with the power limit
@@AncientGameplays Ok tx. But the other prob is that when I click on that curve freq. vs speed and try to scan it says: Failed to start scannin.
thx this helps a lot
Great to know 💪💪
RTX 3070's are very sensitive to voltage and many of them shut off instantly when they get voltage spikes even on default settings. It is advised to set the OC curve to not run above 1.25v. I myself only run 1.00 maximum at the top boost clocks to avoid any problem.
Good looks bro
RTX3070 is card easy to overclock but easier to undervolting. And when you use botch is perfect.
My Asus Dual can run witch stock clock (100% deafult performance) witch 0,89v and use obły 185W (220 deafult)
I was modifyed bios and change 240W limit to 265W. This card can running witch about 2100MHz GPU clock. But I prefer modify voltage curve that (Standard 1V on GPU but OC to 2000MHz) it is 100% stable and give me about 11% Faster GPU and Standard 220-230W power consumption (ofcorse with memory OC)
I think rhis card is grat :D
I swear by the voltage/frequency curve editor in afterburner. I have a 3080 that came out of an alienware r10. It has a crappy 2-fan cooler and with the curve editor I can dial in a specific voltage at a specific frequency that gives me the most possible performance for the least possible amount of heat. I have lowered the temperature by almost 10 degrees without losing any noticeable amount of performance. Yes, it's more complicated than just moving the frequency slider, but the reward of much lower temps with the highest possible amount of performance is worth the hassle. It's really not that hard. The major thing is to remember that the frequency has to be a multiple of 15, so you'd set 1860mhz, 1875mhz, 1890mhz, etc, and yes, sometimes what you set will go 15 mhz over your goal making it crash so just adjust down 15 mhz if that happens. That's the only janky thing about it. The method in the video I've linked to here is the best I've ever seen. Set core clock to -291 (yes, minus), and then in the curve editor grab the dot at the voltage you want, drag it up to the frequency you want, then hit apply and that's it. You don't have to adjust 100 dots, just one. It's easy other than finding out the right numbers to go for but even that isn't hard if you manage to get the idea of how this works in your head. I very highly recommend learning to use the curve editor in afterburner if you are having any problem with excessive heat and you want to lower the temp while losing the least possible amount of performance. czcams.com/video/sClh4270yg0/video.html
And here is the best table of numbers that works well for a 3080 that's a silicon lottery loser so is a great starting point for anyone wanting to use the curve editor with a 3080. i.imgur.com/1Uxa8hX.jpg
You forgot the essential trick: RGB to the max for galactic performance boost! :P
Hahaha
Do you have any idea how lame it is to steal a "joke" that's been absolutely worn out for years now? Be original.
@@danieldevito6380do you have any idea that absolutely no one cares about that, it's still funnier than any of your jokes

Excellent guide! What is the overlay displaying the fps, temperatures and so on?
Thanks, is msi afterburner
@@AncientGameplays aha! Yeah I found that I didn't install the rivatuner server, found it now. But it capped my FPS to 60 :/
actually you could cap the voltage to a certain value..but the frequency will lower a bit. those gpus can run @130 watts for 1800-ish mhz.
Yeah, but the perf decrease is quite big too
@@AncientGameplays yes. for sure. 10%-ish. same for 3060 ti.
Hi i loved the video i only have one question. can doing this and keeping it stable damage my card ?

thx man
You're very welcome. Damn youtube said it was fine and it is still rendering proper video image lol
Hey thank you for you video! is it safe to apply your clock settings without increasing Power Limit since it's locked on my 3070? Played Hogwarts Legacy for one hour and it seems stable enough with max temperature 75 celcius degrees.
Safe? Yes, but might not deliver much perf
Dumb question. I have the dragon center running and the afterburner running. Should I disable the dragon center ?
Nice video, but i think also undervoltage
it is really useful in some scenario,. don't underestimate it. In my case i left many many grade from my gpu whit better performance 😉
I talk about that
Are the afterburner settings applied in hardware or part of the driver initialisation? Reason I ask is because I dual boot my system windows/Linux (Nvidia driver) and I want to know whether the settings I chose in this Widows app will carry into Linux.
This is just software of course
@@AncientGameplays Yes, that's what I expected. Many thanks for your helpful info.
hello. do you have an idea why the Limit overlay says Voltage ? i have the RTX AOURS 3070. i also noticed that the power limit on mine is 111 max. How can i manage this because i don't really want to mess with the core voltage
what 3070 model did you used? damn hitting 280 watts. OC and UV is good tho. Mine 1995MZH and vram with 7500mhz in 170 watts. maybe can you do some video about Undervolting as well
I was using the suprim
i needed the video? no i watched it all? yes
Thank you!!
You can't burn newer GPUs by adjusting voltage either; it doesn't work like old GPUs anymore. Adjusting voltage in afterburner on newer cards only changes the curve at which it will increase voltage whenever clocks are increased.
I see, thanks
for my gigabyte 3070 i have maxed out the core voltage slider and +140mhz reliably with fairly stable fps in games. I also managed +1000mhz stable memory overclock.
nice :D
i have cpu ryzen 5950x i over clock it with the AMD RYZEN MASTER to 4600ghz 1.24 volt also with msi after borner with my 3070msi to 8000mhz\2070mhz gpu work together crazy
thanks for the video
Will you do a vid on overclocking the Intel A770?
I can do it yeah, after the comparisons!
One thing i have noticed that in ddr6 vram gpus if you push the memory clock too much performance will drop due to memory errors in many gpus.
Yeah that's a thing you should always look into
yes, my 6800 XT perfform way better at 2128mhz on mem compared to 2150mhz.
Hey bro! i love your work! im having some problems with my PC I have an 6700xt and an ryzen 7 2700x, but i thing the performance of the pc is lower than expected is possible to be a CPU bottleneck? 1 more thing is my games always crash, no matter the game I'm playing, and when it crashes says that the Amd drivers are incompatible, and i can't enter in the AMD Software, i need to install the drivers of the graphics card again, do you know something about it?
Driver 2.11.1
Not "possible", it is certain it can happen, even more if at 1080P
I don't speak English but I wanted to tell him if I had updated the drivers because I have an rx 6750xt and I had some errors when playing and touching the windows button, it was solved by updating to the latest version of drivers
Hey bro, my 3070 asus dual oc, is Always at max clock at low usage same at idle!! Anything like core 1770 memory 7001 and usage 0%... So i used ddu and fix it for a moment!!! Then i restart the pc the clocks come to max again same at idle! Do u know how to fix it? Sorry english im from Brazil
its totally fine bro msi afterburner does the same to me too and its not an issue :D
FYI I have Inno3d RTX 3070 iChill 3x OC
Hi. Just let me add some additional information about OC on RTX Cards, I have a 3060, in my experience I use 2 different profiles of OC/Undervolt, one for pure rasterized games, and other with a little more Voltage for games that are using Deep Learning technologies (DLSS, DLAA, DLDSR) or Raytracing. Workloads on Tensor Cores/Raytracing cores can be more instable. Is really necessary to test stability on different software/games for the RTX Cards. I will give this example, I was playing Forza Horizon 5 with my "Rasterization Profile", always perfectly stable, when I changed to DLAA, crashes started to happen. I changed again to TAA and problem solved. This is not the only test I did, I have been doing this on many different games for months and now I have 100% stability with my card. Just my 2 cents.
Truth. Pure rasterized can overclock higher with less power. Ray tracing plus dlss sips a lot more juice.
Yes, agreed, hence why you should always test in REALLY heavy games like I advised hehe
I have 3070 laptop
Just an update of sorts. Recently I've noticed the tensor core behavior on my 3070 has changed, I'm guessing it has something to do with 40 series drivers. Dlss and temporal upscaling methods like fsr 2 seem to impact power draw in the opposite direction. The greater the upscaling performance setting, the lower your power draw goes while still hitting 100% gpu utilization. This especially happens when undervolting.
Just an example, if my undervolt setting in Doom Eternal is draw is around 175 watts without dlss, if I turn dlss on performance mode that power draw drops down to about 155 watts and still maintains 95 to 100% gpu utilization.
It's an interesting behavior I don't remember observing before 40 series drivers started showing up, particularly the driver for Portal RTX. I also tested this with callisto protocol and fsr 2, it exhibits the same behavior although with Callisto, the RT features are more unstable with undervolting, I had some crashes with some of my more aggressive undervolting profiles.
thank you
Thank YOU for watching :D
Would you recommend oc if you stream and game on the same pc?
yes
@@AncientGameplays thank you!
Hello what program are you using to test the games? Thanks
humm...this one...

My afterburner isn’t functioning like yours is. I have the same version and graphics card. Won’t let me adjust all settings and won’t save some of them
hey have an alienware r12, wanna add more ddr4 ram, what do you recommend, i also have a gtx3070 gpu as well... going out today soon hopefully u see this soon this was very helpful
im not kidding when i say this, take allllllllllllllll your pc components out and buy a new case. thats the hottest computer you can buy. your internals suffocate itself. trust. had 3. allllllllllll returned, allllllllll pushing 103c+
first time im using this app. i noticed your gpu/mem numbers are low & going up and down during the video, when i start afterburner it shows gpu 1815 & mem 7000 constantly. does it mean its using all this gpu/mem?? i have no games or anything heavy running in background
Thanks indeed very odd, check if you have some mining virus or some software using the GPU
You have a windows or nvidia setting on maximum performance
in my case, with an igame's 3070, im only getting 3 fps boost with the overclocked config than undervolted one(wich i always use). Also, avg temp of the overclocked gpu is 73-77, while undervolted is 60-65. So, it isnt worth it at all in my case. Overclock is not always a "boost" when you are not getting anything but higher temps of it. Configs ive used:
overclocked: +100-110mhz gpu clock, +1000-1200mhz vram clock, 109% power, 90c in max temp
undervolted: +0 gpu clock, +0 vram clock, 85% power, 75c in max temp.
Yeah, that's because your model is most likely power restricted or you have a cpu bottleneck
@@AncientGameplays well, it is probably the second, since the power consumption is going really hard... sometimes 230 i think.
@@AncientGameplays do you think cpu could be doing a bottleneck with the gpu at 99% in both cases? i mean, even with its full usage, could it go even higher?(cpu is at 40-50% usually. i3 12100f)
Please Can you tell me why my games crash after 10 second when trying to overclock my 3070. I even tried putting the values up by 10 and it still crashes. Am I doing something wrong ?
Can you make a video on how to undervolt rtx 3070 from colorful battle ax series
Should you make such a "watt-watcher" guide as well, how to reduce power consumption with minimalist drop in performance, because winter is coming....
yes would be great
Are we safe to copy his settings if i have a RTX 3070 to
I upped the core speed to +50 and opened Jedi: Survivor and my graphics card just straight up turned off entirely when I tried to load a save. The rest of the PC was on, even the RGB, but I had to manually power it off which I don't like doing because of the risk. It took 2 and a half minutes for it to turn back on and now the RGB is not turning on for the graphics card. I don't know if it's MSI Afterburners fault or if Jedi: Survivor is just a piece of shit as usual. Any thoughts?
Not stable ot seems
wow great video now I get 10-20 more fps on apex and i get 200 most of the time instead of 190
(great placebo)
xD. You're CPU bottlenecked most likely
Afterburner irritates me… The voltage curve graph is not laid out properly, not with how it is used anyway.
Moving the graph curve down is under volting, and flattening the end of the curve limits the voltage above the set point.
But the graph layout does not read that way. Flattening the end of the curve looks like it should limit clock speed, not voltage.
When you move the curve up or down, when you read the graph, you would be changing the clock speed to voltage. Moving the curve down would actually be over volting, as the curve shows that each voltage point on the graph is assigned to a lower clock speed. Meaning higher voltages are reached at lower frequencies.
For the graph to work as depicted in tutorials, the voltage should be on the vertical axis, and the frequency should be on the horizontal axis.
Or maybe I am just crazy…
Its not just you
What is average core clock for a 3070? I got mine to stably at 2050Mhz
I'm sorry that I'm writing under this video, but I can't find the information. Is it worth overclocking the g skill trident z neo? (XMP3600 14-14-14-34)
It is always worth as long as it is stable
Understood). I just thought maybe the maximum has already been squeezed out of this profile
my Powerlimit is "limited" allready at 100 %...It is a Gigabyte RTX 3070 eagle OC. What is your opinion on that GC? Is it worth it, for a Card that is allready "OC"?

@@AncientGameplays Wow thanks for you the quick answer! Sorry, what do you mean with "pn"? ^^
I have recognized something else: The overview above the setting options isn't "live" at my msi afterburner. It shows allways 1770MHz and 7000MHz Mem. Did you see that before? Or is it because of my GC OC version? And, BTW, great video. Thank you!! :)

@@AncientGameplaysreally depends, my Gigabyte 3070 does 220mhz on the core and 1000 on the memory, completely stable.
very informative and easy to understand, I never mess with OC of any kind but helldivers 2 in 1440p is giving me between 40's and 50's on average during missions, once I'm in the ship I get around 70 fps so I want to OC to get more than 60 for helldivers 2 without messing with the voltage as you mentioned.
Not having geforce experience is a big plus but it has filters for games which helps a lot.
Meanwhile, you are pretty much forced to install it using AMD cards and there are no filters.
Thus, when I find equal power cards from these two, I let nvidia be a little more expensive just because of this fact :D
Nah, why do you need it exactly? For recording and orher features, the same for geforce experience
@@AncientGameplays Better visibility in games, especially the ones like apex that has bloom effect. You can remove that effect with geforce experience filter. It's basically a reshade but better interface and more polished filters. Other than that, I hate that app. It is buggy and has the worst UI the world has ever seen.
@@gdgd5194 yeah, that's basically the only things you have there, the filters, the rest you have on the amd side as well. And no need for registration
@@AncientGameplays True, I have a temporary rx570 atm and it works just like any other card ^^
@@gdgd5194 Adrenaline is better than anything from nvidia and I own both cards. Search up the specific game youre trying to have better visibility in + amd and go from there. You'll get pretty close. I need some advice I have overclocked my 3070 and it seems stable at 165 core and 1000 memory. Using furmark I get higher fps going all the way to 1100 but in msi kombuster using the artifact scanner it picks up artifacts if I go higher than 800. It's not showing actual artifacts on screen it just tells me with the scanner that it's getting them. Any help on what I should do?
it might be error correcting. if your back off the speed until it stops whatever it's claiming is wrong in theory you should get better performance but every card is different.
Does this work for 3070ti as well?
I am new to overclocking btw and i was wondering can overclock affect motherboard as well? I am using B460 and when i research in internet, B550 or above is more safer to overclock. I might be wrong

I gotta ask what's better the oc or the undervolt ?
Delends on the objective
@@AncientGameplays from 1440p to 4k gaming w/ msi 3070 suprim x . i currently undervolt basically for the temp benefits .
Hi can i ask if having 50% gpu temp while not playing games or opening apps is that normal ?
For iddle is normal 50-60 celcius and playing 100% GPU 75-85 celsius.
Your GPU might have a zero RPM mode (usually zero RPM fans kick in at 50 degrees), or it could be possible that your GPU isn't downclocking properly at idle. Idle clock speed for a GPU is usually below 1000mhz, mine goes between 100 and 600 at idle and 2100 under full load for reference. If you have two monitors with different resolutions or refresh rates then that could be why. It's not an issue but it could increase your power bill if you leave your computer idle for a long time.

Tried this video and an undervolting video, ran Heaven test and the scores were lower. I have a MSI either X Trio or the Ventus 3X. Even got stable readings at +125 core and +1150 mem clock and no better numbers. Any reason why?
If it is lower it means it isn't actually stable
@@AncientGameplays wait what? Oh its stable. No glitching and no crashes.
@@wpgcelica if you have less fps it means you're having memory errors, those errors are corrected but need gpu power to do it, hence having less perf

How do you know if you have a stable system???
Test it...as explained
Conservative undervolt to 950mV at 2020MHz on my 3070ti stops it from singing a song of it's people with massive coil whine. hella good trick to learn.
Need to look more into afterburner unservolting

Oooooo, don't sleep on undervolting the 3070, it's frankly crazy how power inefficient the stock config is compared to what good undervolt tuning can get you.
For context I have an MSI 3070 ventus 2x oc, so honestly not the best cooler(the power limit is locked to 100%), just at FE spec of 220w I was having to ramp the fan curve a bit too much to keep the card in the mid 60's. This is what led me down the undervolting rabbit hole.
The Msi afterburner curve editor is a little fussy but honestly once you know how to manipulate it properly, it's not so bad.
Benchmarking it with superposition I can score even with the stock power curve for about 180 watts. For 190 watts I can beat the stock config score. If I really want to push power saving I can get 93% of the stock performance at 140 watts. That's a 36% power reduction.
Ampere has excellent unvolting potential. Not only that but recently new drivers that came along with portal rtx have seemingly changed the power draw behavior of the tensor cores used for temporal upscaling tech like dlss and fsr 2. Now, in addition to the power draw reduction of undervolting the use of tensor cores reduces the draw even further while still maintaining the set clock frequency and full gpu utilization.
For example in Doom Eternal setting my voltage to 887mV core clock 1935mhz my 3070 draws 175 watts on average without dlss. With dlss Performance mode the fps will increase as you'd expect but additionally that power draw then averages around 155 watts. And the other dlss settings in between scale between that range.
I'm sure your next question might be, "aren't you losing a lot of fps though?" Nope, maybe 1 or 2 frames compared to the card running stock and if I add some memory overclock it will match or surpass stock config.
I know this video is about overclocking and getting the most possible out of the 3070 but I just wanted to put it out there for people perhaps with thermal issues or small cases or loud fans that you can easily achieve the cards baseline performance with significantly lower power draw and shave off 5 to 10 degrees Celsius or even more if you want to undervolt it lower but still get 93% stock performance.
I like your videos a lot, I just think you're too quickly dismissing what undervolting can do for this card.
yes, and I would do it obviously if it weren't for the crazy odd afterburner setup
@@AncientGameplays i find the best way to do it is to pull up the curve chart, look for the voltage I want to test and select the dot it's in line with. I click on the dot just to keep track of it. I'll give you a setting that works fine on my card. 875 mV, after I select that dot, I'll go to the core clock and add 195 mhz (the left side of the graph should read 1890 mhz for the 875 mV dot). Next I drag select all the dots in the curve to the right of the 875mV dot with shift + left click. Once they are all highlighted, you can click on any dot in the select box to move them all together. I drag them all the way to the bottom. Last step click apply, and you end up with that nice stock curve right up until your voltage and frequency of choice and then flattens out. The clock tends to run a little faster in practice, I set it to 1890 mhz but in superposition this setting ran at 1905 mhz the whole time during the benchmark. With a +500 memory overclock this scored an 8628 in superposition 1080p extreme while drawing about 190w, 63c temp.
For comparison my card's stock performance ran in the 1850 mhz range and stuck like glue to the full 220 watts and ran up to 67c and it would have been hotter than that if not for my custom fan curve working 20% harder and twice as loud. And after all that, it only scored 8456.
I hope you'll give this method a try, the results may surprise you. Keep up the good work, your guides are awesome. I know very little about amd cards, your channel helped me tune my friend's rx 6600 for his first gaming build, it was a big help. Cheers 👍
@@Orain88 I have a 3070 suprim x and undervolt to 900@1800mhz but I’m only on 1080p 75 hz screen atm (have Samsung g5 at other house) but it seems I could undervolt more based on what you said. I’m going to play at 1440p 100+ fps medium/high settings in modern warfare, any idea what what clock speeds and voltage I’d need and why do companies set voltages so high if the cards don’t need it?
@@heroicsquirrel3195 this card is pretty much made for 1440p 120+ fps. I don't play modern warfare so unfortunately I can't give you any specific suggestions but I suspect you wouldn't have to try very hard to get over 100 fps at 1440p while undervolting and tweaking some graphical settings into the mid range. Especially if you throw some dlss at it.
If you're undervolting to 900 mV try clocking it in the 1900-1950 mhz range. Also throw on +440 to the memory clock.
Every card runs a bit different, so they throw a voltage and power draw spec they know will run stable for sure out of the box. It does seem crazy once you tinker a bit and realize how much these cards can do and frankly do better with less brute force.
Run what I suggested through superposition on 1080p extreme preset, see if it's stable and how well it scores.
@@Orain88 thanks man, I’ll try tomorrow, keen to know my cards limits actually
Im hitting 1950mhz on stock settings. Is that good?
Yes
Someone knows how to fix it? I can't automatic oc via Nvidia app or Afterburner. When pressing auto tune the oc cancel it. Same with Afterburner automatic tune not work. I clean my.gpu drivers with ddu, i reinstalled again the gpu with latest Nvidia drivers and some olders. Nothing!!!
Stop using auto tuning...
curve oc is better my friend i think. Example the memory clock manually hold the MhZ higher all the time. With my 2060 Super can oc +90mhz core and +300mhz memory clock but the temps is higher all time.
Damn that gpu almost pull 100W more than my 6700xt with max OC which is almost 50% more.

Can I Do This On My RTX 3070 ti ? Does doing Overclocking Degrade the life of the graphics card?
Yes you can
The temperature of your card is the main thing degrading the life of the card. If you overclock on stock power limit and voltage the temps shouldn't increase but you won't get the best overclock ever. If you're concerned about the longevity if your card, look into undervolting and/or turn up your fan speed a bit.
