If you can't diagnose a bad A/C cap you need to find a different job...
They probably knew it was a bad capacitor, but replacing the fan motor brings in more money..😢
He knew what he was doing...
The customer wants to see the famous CZcams plumbing dog, Molly.
I would too! 🐾😍
@@henryx6377 - According to Steve, baby was very protective of the truck.
@@henryx6377 loved Baby the dog too! 😍
She looked just like mine that I lost last year.
@@SheilaSpencer1 - I just lost my jackrat terrier. She looked a little like baby.
@@picklerix6162 baby wad cute
If someone came to my house and left all those wires disconnected I would be very upset. The fact the wires were tucked under the top cover tells me the guy wanted to charge for a fan but only replace the cheap capacitor. Taking advantage of the old lady.
"You don't order pizza at a Chinese restaurant!" 😄
I unfortunately get calls like this all too often.
Well done Steven 👊🏻
Always fun following up on a HVAC Scammer, I've heard stories of bad tech's carrying bad capacitors around in their tool bags to show customers and say they came out of their AC. Look out for the White Shirt technicians they usually work on commission. Steves a honest Service tech and plumber, give her the chooch mama!
He a ways right and he does not scam. No body
White shirt technicians?
Thats insane. Imagine having to fake your job to get work... if these guys worked legit they would be swamped, no time to fake it when real problems are needing fixing. Im 95% sure a quick lube place used to show me dirty air filters from my service van. Ive never seen air filters get that dirty in 6 months...
@@rashatmehta1386 I actually started my HVAC career with a company that paid by commission. So unfortunately it can breed greedy technicians who create repairs to get paid more. So the supposedly squeaky clean technician in the white collard shirt shows up looking to make big commission. Now that's not ALL white shirt techs, trust your instincts with people.
@@boopernator - Unfortunately, there are quite a few dishonest techs in my area because my neighbors will ask for my opinion. One neighbor told me that the tech wanted to charge him $380 to install a hard start kit but my neighbor decided to ask me first. I looked at the wiring on the contactor and I could tell the wires were burned. I told my neighbor to cut the wires, strip them back, and reconnect the wires to the contactor. The condensing unit started right up.
I think this is going to be a wild summer as far as AC repair goes...
Nothing like cleaning up someone else's mess. Good job Steve!
Looked like the guy before was trying to scam someone or it could have been some amateur fooling around with it.
Steven is definitely NOT a scammer and from the hundreds of videos I've watched of him he has never tried to sell something if the customer didn't need it.
He's the real deal.👍🇺🇸
Another fine job - and won over a new customer. There are times a lesson is expensive, this one not so much. Keep 'em coming Steve!!
Sure glad I watch you guys every day. My A/C wouldn’t come on and then the heater quit working. Right away I saw the fuse on the mother board was blown for the 24 volt circuit. I pretty much knew it was gonna be a short in the 24 line somewhere. I couldn’t find it but a buddy plumber of mine found it right next to the outside condensor. The mice were busy. I can’t believe it got up to 87 degrees yesterday, that’s crazy for this time of year.
Steve is working again...One of the only honest guys in this business.
I’ve heard your Name mentioned on Other Channels so I thought I would check you out. Nice Job, Steve! 👍🙏
I had a capacitor replaced, and the fan quit a week later. They say the capacitor going bad can ruin the fan windings. Anyway, replace the capacitor every 3 years and if it's chinese then every year.
My cap is 1991 original to the condenser. Still runs fine but your idea with todays parts makes much sense.
Homeowner unhooked his wires just to meet Steve
Another great video Steve, your honest and truthful that's why I've been following you for years and learning in the process! Keep the video's coming ☝️ 💪 🎉
Please Steve get something to block Molly from falling out of that window when you drive.
After 41 years of working in the hvac industry I decided to retire. The service manager and the majority of technicians were very dishonest trying to upsell and selling shit that customers didn’t need. It was all about the money and not the integrity to do an honest job. I’m done 😮.
I do not think we have one honest HVAC tech here in NJ.
It's not bad enough that someone takes advantage of a person but they are a real piece, to take advantage of an elderly person.
Great Job Steve. Keeping equipment going and always treating the customer right! Now days everyone says you need new equipment to be green. But contribute to the waste by getting rid of easily fixable systems.
Who ever worked on it before You had some screws loose.
You’re an honest man nice job
Steve I like how you are straight forward and honest with customer
Great video
It was a "flippin scammaaahh mama"
Nice it was "only" a bad "capaaacitaah" and disconnected "waaaiiiyyargghhs"
and some screws looose mama :D
haha so funny :)
Hi Steve! I stumbled on your chanel looking for how to diagnose a fan that wasn't running, a few years back. It was the capacitor and I changed it myself, even though we had a company that came regularly for maintenance (in southern cali). The old tech left to start his own business in arizona. The new tech they sent said i needed a kick starter and that the charge was low. I asked him how he could say the charge was low if he just turned the system ON and didn't connect any gages to the lines and i asked him to read the capacitance which was spot on. His words, verbatem: you seem to know your stuff, so i'm not gonna BS you. Everything is fine, including the filters, so no charge today! I fired them 😊(a big name plumbing and air company) I think I'm to the point where i can do boiler maintenance (not that we have any here), just by watching your old videos! If you ever make it to souther cali, i'm buying you dinner and beers! I enjoy watching your videos because they're halarious! cheers!
Love the videos. I have been a fan since I was in HVAC school at Tidewater Tech. Keep doing what your doing. I am still learning and I have been in the field for 5 years.
Great Video. Thank you for sharing
Great V-log, Steve! Son was asking if it would be interesting enough? Hell, It couldn`t be MORE interesting.
Great job , Steve. WE see those guys. Got to keep the eyes and ears open all the time.
Good job. Have a great a/c season
You're the man Steve!
Outstanding!!!
Great job Steve.
Thank you friend.
You know you are in Mass when a guy says never buy a pizza from a chinese restaurant lol 😂
Hey Steve and Miss Molly! Workin’ again y’all. 👍👍
Nice fix.
What a hole lmao 🤣 I died when you said that Steve 😂 talk about keeping it real ! 😅
Great work Steve
Super job.
nice job!!! never go for pizza at a Chinese restaurant.... no denying the truth of those words!!!!
Excellent Service Call
Steven, Great Job 👍
Previous guy probably wasn't even an HVAC technician
Good catch man
Nice find
Unbelievable what others do to others. Taking advantage of others that’s wrong . Steve is the great guy .
Wow he had all the wires disconnected
Hard to say if the other guy was a scammer or just incompetent. A scammer likely would have returned pronto and replaced shit.
Good job.
Steve your the best that’s why your the heavy hitter!
Nice job.
Good job Steve
Good stuff
Wht a scam for wht the AC guy did to this guy. And left it that way. Steve knows something was not right. Thanks to Mr steve he fix it. 😊
Good video steve!
I could understand replacing the motor if it works, but the bearings are shot, as its only a matter of time before it locks up... but to disconnect it and leave it off as if its garbage when its just not starting just due to capacitor is fraud (or severe incompetence.) Im scared to know how many people were sold entire new AC/ Furnace setups due to a cheap capacitor job. This shit would get you reamed at my shop, you wouldnt get much work after this (to save company reputation from frauds.) If you are as transparent as possible with customers, show them what you find and let them decide if they want a new motor or not. It seems in Resi, people blow smoke up homeowner's ass and get away with murder. Doesnt happen as easy in Commercial/ Industrial... people know when theyre getting scammed.
decent HVAC tech do not need to scam people to make a living
Always go with small companies preferably hourly techs. Research and read reviews and if the quote is high get second opinion.
Had one i went on a few weeks ago, the last guy left the wires off the cap. Turned the unit on....BANG! Wires shorted out on the cabinet of the unit. Some people man....smh.
You're the best Steve!
Next level
It's Gas N Go weather mama.
Another good video
Awesome!
Hello Steve!
Not only was that other guy had a few screws missing but he also had wires unhooked...That was a cob job..Motto of the story don't have someone that doesn't know ac work in your unit.
Have been getting them as well…
@@willydavid It was some time back.. thanks
that was no scam!!!!!! just rookie with no knowledge.. companies send them out there all the time, pencil pushers and peanuts counters.
They are sending someone out that can't check and replace a capacitor? 😮
"Don't buy a pizza in a chinese restaurant" words to live by, lol
Steveo to the rescue!
Bring on the AC videos 🛠️👍
Innuendo abounds 🤫🤭😆😎👍🏻🤷♂️
not used to seeing steve work on a newer unit besides installing them.
Couple of screws loose mama
Hard to say the fan motor is not bad if you didn’t check the bearings or the resistance of the windings or the amp draw. Other guy had the top off. Hard to say the guy was trying to scam someone when he could have diagnosed something you didn’t check. Not saying it wasn’t a scam, I’m just careful to call someone out when the might have checked something you didn’t.
Really!!! Wth
fan might have went out on thermal and dude just thought it was bad but it's also more likely the idiot didn't have a clue and just never came back. This looks more like the guy tried a cap and it didn't work so he put the old cap back on and bounced. Or the "guy" is standing right next to steve :)
This is the scenario you described; fan motor is out on thermal due to bad cap. Guy fiddles with it for a bit by trying a new cap but no beans so condemns OFM.
New truck is a lot quieter in the videos. A lot!
The customer is lucky the guy didn't come back. He was gonna charge him for a motor and just change the capacitor. Just like with auto mechanics, there are bad apples out there giving HVAC technicians a bad name. The customer was lucky to find Steve, an honest tech to help him out.
"GUNSLINGER" for hire
Steve's name and reputation are worth more than a few extra pasos by scaming customers. Great job Steve.
Thanks again Steve for coming out here to safely diagnose and repair what someone else couldnt, your expeirience says it all , at least my elderly mother has piece of mind ,she is 81 years old , and has you for all her future repairs as i will have a great repairman ,a true people person, and considered a friend , thank you so very much.
Yes, I love it. It's been 80s the past few days. It's supposed to drop to 40s and 50s for a few days, then warm up in the 70s.
Maybe the other guy never came back because he got arrested for scamming people. Just ludacrist the people that are out there. Nuts! Nice job Steve, thanks for the upload!
Nah, he probably got fired from that job for not selling enough, and is working for the company down the street doing the same thing
@@brianporter4352 Haha, call Fox news and set him up.
Why won't you tell us how much are you charging or just an estimate for what you did?
Whats up with that contactor? Looks like only one contact on one leg of the 240.
Stellar... bada bing...
That first guy was a fraud ! The fact that he left the wires disconnected and didn't put the screws back where he found them tells me he had attitude when the owner didn't give him the okay to do a $500 fan replacement instead of a $150 cap replacement. Not only that, guys like that will use the old fan on another job and charge the same $500 to that customer. Most legitimate HVAC service folks will put the unit back together the way they found it if they don't get the job...they do that so the next guy doesn't have anything negative to say about them.
Bet you got a lot of AC calls yesterday April 14... It was like 90f on the forecase... Did it get that hot?
My AC didn't kick over at first. Second try it did and has been running fine since. Gonna need a hard start kit Mama!
What do you mean by if that thing was not sweaty you would of checked the charge?
a healthy running ac unit has the supply line that is cold and "sweaty", if it wasn't then he would have checked the charge with the most likely problem being low on refrigerant...
When a customer tells me “hot and hard.” I charge double 😉 2:10
Go to a Pizza place that hires Mexicans to make pizza, or go to Panda Express where they have Mexicans cooking Chinese American food.
That guy who wanted to sell him a fan/motor and disconnected all the wires should be reported.
Coils look damaged?
Cap n go cap’n crunch
Why did the fan blades look like they were full force rotating then went slow it seemed from my view?
Fan was running normally. But strobe effect occurs when frames per second of video closely matches rotation speed, essentially freezing the image.
Stuffs not rocket science. Mine went out 2 summers ago and a $15 cap from the parts store got me going.
Wie viel BTU hat so eine Klimaanlage?
He would of put a new fan motor in there with the old cap still in and then say hey still not working you need a whole new system.
Steve...I hear a howling sound in your truck that was not present before. Could be the power steering fluid level is too low? Thats what it sounds like anyway.
probley the window open its hot weather now
@@stevenlavimoniere I heard the same sound in a previous video or two as well.
@@stevenlavimoniere The sound is more prominent at a stop light and when the engine speeds up and shifts from first to second. Its engine speed related, likely something driven by the serpentine belt such as hydro brakes, water pump, power steering pump, etc.
