In this Overwatch 2 video, Salty Phish showcases the new tank hero Mauga and all of his abilities live from Blizzcon. We show his primary fire, incendiary chaingun and his secondary fire, volatile chaingun. His overrun ability can charge forward while being unstoppable. His cardiac overdrive can allow him and nearby allies to take reduced damage and heal by dealing damage. He gains temporary health when dealing critical damage. His ultimate ability is called Cage Fight, where he deploys a barrier that traps him and enemies while having unlimited ammo.

Every clip I see of a Mauga popping off 9/10 his health bar is a yo-yo and a testament to the Supports pouring EVERYTHING into him.
that's nothing to take away from the mauga though, as much as the supports are healing him, the mauga needs to make sure that they are eliminating whats dealing damage, it's a team effort in every sense of the word, mauga has to trust his supports more then any other character
Very balance, such development, so game.
As much as it's a problem for Mauga that he's so reliant on 24/7 healing, and a problem for your team's damage who have to become healthpack hunters, it's kind of cool that Mauga pretty much only works well with Baptiste.
it helps to include that Muaga has 60% lifesteal on his E and is pumping out dmg per 10 numbers of 12,000 so its not just all supports, he could just be life draining an enemy tank while taking 3 different forms of dmg
@@e.d.5766 Bap, Kiri, Zen, and Ana work well with him. Zen and Ana more if it’s a mirror Tank match up. LW has some interesting interactions but overall doesn’t have the sustain a Bap or Kiri could add. Mercy, Brig, and Lucio all really struggle to keep him alive and it’ll mostly rely on other factors (DPS popping off, low enemy damage) to really shine with a Mauga.

Yeah, good think Phish doesn’t take his shirt off. It’s a limiter so that he doesn’t just break everything and everyone in a 5 mile vicinity.
The spread is much less when you only shoot with one of the guns, so you can poke easier

yep, also you move slower when shooting both guns
(I was the Moira on Samoa and the Mauga on kings row) I’ve never felt more seen than I did in the first four minutes of this video where all of the clips were me dying or getting Mauga diffed by Phish. Godspeed, young soldier.
Ana is definitely the number 1 counter. Her sleep and Anti are nasty against him

I find it incredibly funny what a good team comp Mauga Sombra Baptiste and Lifeweaver are. Bap, his two exes, and his current BF work together so well it's so funny.

@@NovelVanguard Mauga and Bap were very close (It was said in his story, only he could snap Mauga out of his bloodthirsty mode) and Mauga has obsessively been looking for Bap, it's theorized they were partners. Lifeweaver and Bap have interactions where they flirt, and Mauga also mocks lifeweaver when he eliminates him.
And lastly Sombra and Bap are friends, in Baps story he has an encrypted app to talk to her directly and they have a few interactions in game, one where Sombra warns Bap about Mauga. They're not said to have been partners, but since Bap is Bi, and her being a good friend for him, them having something in the past isn't very farfetched.
No relationship has actually been confirmed, but those are some of the clues.

Seeing phish wearing headphones instead of the apple earbuds feels so unnatural
it was like lava on the sides of my head
His main weapons and lack of defense really makes him feel like tf2 heavy. The charge really doesnt feel like that much of an initiate or offensive skill because he cant really sustain himself after that, but feels more like an aggressive repositioning tool, like charging past enemies into cover that is close range so you can kill people in cover using his main weapons. Feels like that even more so considering his charge prevents cc like sleep or other stuns so you cant just punish his reposition.
Also, he seems quite insane with some kind of hybrid dive brawler comp. Like imagine lucio reaper and him. He charges into the enemy team and just knocks people up, ults if he has, and uses his damage = healing. Reaper will be nigh unkillable with 3 sources of healing, and now the enemy team has a choice of either killing the tank and dying to the reaper, or vice versa. Throw in bap and mei and I think the enemy team is gonna have a real bad time.
Edit: As someone who used to be a heavy main, a tip might be: See 1 person at 1 time and shoot 1 person at 1 time. Your weapons are single target damage. Being able to see 2 people at once just means that there are 2 sources of damage hitting you, while you dont increase in damage.
Non-tf2 tip. Seems like most of his damage comes from when he is able to set people on fire, and that is dependant on how much damage youve done already using his incendiary weapon. Considering he has high damage fall off, you really want to avoid attacking from anything other than pretty close range.
He is a lot of fun. I found ana and sigma to be major counters to him.
During the trial, I faced all of 3 Maugas, the rest was literally sigmas playing sigma just to smite people trying Mauga, I love the ow2 community😢
@@kiwioking7187 yeah, I played a bit with a friend on the last day of the trial and we literally had to go mauga+kiriko just to force the all the anas off him
Also Reaper, Mauga doesn't have the massive self heal and DR or the oneshot that Hog has but he's just as big as him, so Reaper can just deal loads of damage to him and he doesn't risk as much, basically Mauga suffers from the same counters as Hog, he's pretty much machinegun Hog
Ana and Reaper is what screws him.

Mauga looks a lot like Maui from Moana who’s played by the former wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Johnson is also known for starring as the Foundation in the Fortnite chapter 2 storyline. He costarred alongside Troy Baker who took on the role of Agent Jonesy. Troy played the co lead Rhys in the hit game from 2014 titled: Tales from the Borderlands.
This character and video are undisputedly hinting at the fact that Philippe Noisey aka the Salty Phish will return to the beloved video series that brought him to fame in which he played and commentated Tales from the Borderlands

This joke felt overused the first time I saw it
"Has any one on the team been sleeped or anti", No, No. Sound about right XD
Funny thing about his ult, it activates in the air. It also pulls players with it if the centre device is moving. With those, you can actually pull enemies off the map, provided there is no railing in the way.
Sadly, I didn't get the opportunity in actual games, and it seems you don't get the kill credit either from what I tested against bots.
To make the stun land, i find jumping before you make contact is the kicker, you need to land pretty directly on to an enemy to knock them down, and it counts as a crit so it applies your passive at a larger number, about 30-40 hp per stunned target. I also find that you can succed by running people into corners so they dont have anywhere to fly away too when you jump
The Mauga C9 strat is my new favorite thing. I can't wait for him to be released 😂
It's a good hero and looks fresh the only problem is that you have to play overwatch 😔

A few ideas I have for buffs:
1. Lower damage falloff when shooting with one gun to further incentivise being smart with gun usage, as well as fixing how easily anyone outside of close range completely cucks him.
2. Reload on charge? The cooldown would maybe have to be increased to like 8 seconds to prevent him shooting forever, but charge is already a pretty mid ability and the fact you'll sometimes miss a great opportunity because you're waiting for his slow ass reload sucks.
Man you mean to say that ana can directly fire all her cooldowns at a tank as they come up and be an effective counter in this new simgle tank, less barrier, higher damage and healing numbers format. I am shocked that despite how fun and overloaded his kit seems a nade and a sleep will ruin the whole vibe

btw using both guns at the same time increases the bullet spread and reduces maui's movement speed. also try aiming for the head with the left gun since it doesn't crit except on headsots, or when you're double shooting, to get crits with both guns.

If you get pulled by lifeweaver out of your own cage, you no longer get unlimited ammo, but if you reenter your cage it becomes infinite again. Interesting...
Mauga is so fun because he’s this giant man part of an elite criminal organization with two cybernetic hearts pumping inside of him that shoots fire charges bullets and has an unstoppable charge that launches people in the hair and cracks the ground when he stomps on them but he’s shut down by a single old woman.

The only counters i have found for mauga currently are: sigma, ana, reaperz zen because of the damn discord orb, lifeweaver and genji because of deflect and bastion with mercy boost

as a support main who struggles to heal mauga due to his aggressive play style, its so heartbreaking when u see a "switch i need more heals" in chat

And something else, it also would be nice if Torb had a skin/model that had to do with Lego and his ulti instead of lava he would shoot a lot of Lego pieces. :P Those of us that played with Lego in our lives know that when you step on one of the Lego pieces it huuuuuurts. XD

I think if they addad a personal clense to at least the start of the charge, it would help a lot with the 'just countered by supports' issue. Could also be at the start of his adrenaline but that would be weaker since you would save anti until he popped it.

I think it would also be interesting if his final stomp after charge gave a bit of bonus overhealth for every target hit, like Doomfist's passive (maybe a bit more). It would help with not having to burn his E every time he engages, and maybe make him a bit more resistant to antinade

honestly the 1 quality of life change i would recomend is to half the movement penalty when only shooting a single gun, since its more accurate at long range it lets u poke a bit better or even allows u to track better from further away.

I haven't played in years so I don't have much room to talk, but I think teams being reduced to 5 and only having 1 tank hurts tanks like this. The ones that don't have shields and don't really have as many defensive options that are on par with tanks that have shields. With 6 characters per team you could have one shield tank and one non-shield tank and it could kind of work. Not that metas really allowed for it since everyone would just stack shield tanks.
Maybe if they brought the 6th team slot back and separated tanks between shields and non-shields, and only allowed 1 of each type instead of allowing 2 shield tanks?
No. Plenty of non shield Tanks are and can be powerful. It's what the high heal pools are for.
then you introduce another potential shield/barrier meta.

i also dont play OW anymore cause i dont enjoy 5v5 and i agree, non shield tanks dont really work unless your incredibly selfish like roadhog or orisa
@@lookinggr8in2013 Dva can use her mobility, Junkerqueen can pull you to her and can enable her team to rush in without the need of a Lucio, Ball is the fastest character in the game and can use that to his advantage to engage anyone at any time, Doomfist can stun people put of things and with an empowered fist he can destroy a squishy. All you have to do is learn to play natural cover with the non shield tanks. Which you should be doing with every character in the game including shield tanks. Standing in the opening is a recipe for disaster.
These are OW1 fundamentals btw. OW1 just allowed you to avoid them because you had overlapping Damage Mitigation from two tanks to save bad players.
