Mevo Start Wifi Camera Review & Demo - Perfect For DJ Livestreaming?
Vložit
- čas přidán 20. 07. 2024
- The Mevo Start is a very smart little livestream camera: Battery powered, built-in audio interface, it can record to SD card, and can "go live" including multi-streaming, without the need for a laptop, either over WiFI or hijacking your phone's 4G. And it's all controlled by an equally smart little phone app.
In this video, I'll talk you through the Mevo Start's features, and help you decide if it's right for you.

Thank you for the great presentation. You answered all of my questions before I even had a chance to ask. Thank you!
you’re welcome, DJ LG.
Looks like a great solution..the three camera would be even more amazing, thank you Phil !!
No problem Niko!
Great video and great demo. Thanks!
Thanks a lot Richard
Thank you Phil for being a good man not afraid to use Denon units on your video’s and not just Pioneer stuff thanks again and keep up the great work that you do mate!!
We use all sorts here :)
I was looking for something like this. Thanx
Great, let us know how you get on with it
Amazing device and demonstration. The price is pretty eye watering though
Thanks for watching!
I’m definitely getting one
Awesome!
Great video, very informative...
Thanks Mitchell!
Great video! Thank youuuuu!!
No problem!
Looks very Nice. In my opinion the best feature will be the possibillity to mix the mic with the stereo Line in.
With live audience (patience everyone) the recording will be more alive.
Nice review, thanks.
Regards, Walter
Indeed!
great video mate, would have been good to see how you set the camera up the one looking down on your controller
We have boom arms on the all in our studio here.
@@digitaldjtips are they hanging from the roof?
Hi phill great video actually what I’m looking for. Do you connect a rca to aux
Yes, via an adaptor (ie an RCA to minijack cable).
@@digitaldjtips Thanks phil, I’m trying to connect kick via RTMP and for some reason it won’t allow to to connect any idea
Thanks for the video. Can you use this for Zoom meetings?
Probably. It has a webcam function.
Thanks
You're welcome.
Hi guys! Great video, Wich audio cable do you guys use/prefer to connect from your mixer to the mevo for the best audio quality?
2 x RCA to 1/8" minijack.
@@digitaldjtips hey guys just wondering should I connect that to record out or booth out or doesn’t matter?
That's the 3.5mm Jack I believe.. sorted... thanks fill.
Hello Phil thanks man also just wondering what smartwatch is that you have ?
Garmin 245 Music
Hi thank you for your video, very interesting, do you think I can integrate it to Streamyard? We currently use this
Never used Streamyard but I'm sure you would be able to
@@digitaldjtips but is there a video explaining how to integrate these types of programs?
Not from us no, but I'm sure it's a case of simply plugging it into the computer and using it like a basic webcam then selecting it in your software
This looks great..
I don't really want to use OBS as it's rrather hardcore for me..
Would this work with my home set up..
2 turntables with a pioneer djm250mk2 mixer?.
How would I connect the mevo to the mixer?.
Love your channel..xx
Simple audio cable from back of mixer to the Mevo, for instance using the booth out
The mixer doesn't have a booth..
I have aux spare..would that work?
I have the original Mevo and the start and on the Multicam beta program. Will do a stream soon to twitch under MrSoulFabulous. Working out some of the downfalls of the beta app before going live.
Would love to hear how you get on with the multistream beta app Keith...
@@digitaldjtips Hi Phil, I'll be doing a broadcast tonight using both Mevos testing their Multicam app.

Hi Phil, here is a link to highlight footage for Mevo Multicam beta app. www.twitch.tv/videos/834032547
I’m so getting this. Thanks Phil! Is it possible to integrate a Logitech camera with the Mevo? So instead of buying 3 mevos you get 1 and 2 other normal cameras
No, they work independently from any computer. For me a single Mevo is best, you can have different zoom levels but three Mevos gets complicated
@@digitaldjtips thank you!
Thanks Phil - great video. I’m considering the three pack of Mevos. Does the app have functionality to automatically switch between the three cameras, without manually initiating it? My goal is to mostly not touch the cameras while I’m DJing - basically hit start and have them switch between the three views, either randomly or at timed intervals.
From memory yes it does you can download the instructions pdf from their site to check
@@digitaldjtips Wow that was a lightning fast reply - thanks! I’ll check it out. This is such a cool setup, especially to have three angles. I’m running off a MacBook Air so it would be sweet to have the video and audio going straight to Wi-Fi instead of running on the Air that’s running Serato too. I appreciate it!
yes, good when the luminosity is good, try record when the dj is in low light with laser etc... the mevo sensor is so small for the low light condition. wait next version perhaps
Agreed, same with any small sensor cameras.
For multi-cam, do they indicate if you could preset camera switching / pans etc and it'd cycle through every X minutes?
Handsfree would be fantastic.
It is only in beta and we haven’t been able to test it yet.
I own a xdj xz and bought the Mevo after seeing your review. I'm struggling to get audio into it. Which output do you use on the xdj xz? I'm using RCA to mini back 3.5mm connection lead but not getting any sound through.
That should work. you'll need to set it up in the Mevo app, too.
Did you run a direct audio line from your DJ board to the mevo? Is it a audio cable jax. What do you use the elgato stream deck for? Can you use it with the mevo
1. Yes, just an audio cable
2. Switching scenes on desktop livestreaming software
3. Only if using the Mevo as a webcam with a laptop and livestreaming software
Hey Phil! Would adding a sound board or an Irig stream to the Mevo improve the sound quality? I’m getting distortion sometimes
No, you just need to tweak your settings.
@@digitaldjtipsI’m using a irig stream, DDj-800 and have the settings on Mevo software stereo instead of mic mono. Problem when comparing original audio compared with Mevo recordings it sounds flat. What tweaks can I can adjust, Mevo or Controller?
One question I have...I have an Irig now and can of course use the iphone. When the levels are too high the Irig turns red, is there anything on this camera that lets you know if the levels are too low or too high? Thanks!
Yes on the iPhone app there are audio level meters.
When is the wifi to PC going to be available? and, do you think it will transmit it's signal reliably 100' to a router or computer with wifi or laptop?
You're best off directing these questions to the manufacturer
How do I connect it to my Xdjrx2?! Pls advise in details for live streaming without laptop
Thanks, we basically cover setup in this video but we'll think about covering it in more detail in a future video
Are you able to see comments on twitch while on the mevo app? or would you just have to toggle between apps?
You’ll have to toggle.
Hi Phil. I have an irig stream. Can I put this into the mevo to stream my dj sets to twitch. Or is a cable from the deck to the cam sufficient. If so, what cable do I need ...?
Cable is sufficient, you need whatever audio output is on your controller, to 1/8" stereo minijack.
I have a daft quest I have the Ddj 1000 first of all where does the lead go in the back of the DJ equipment? And what lead is it?
I think the lead he’s talking about is running an RCA/TRS male end from your decks, to a 3.5 mm male end. It takes your split audio signal and turns into mono for you to then plug into a mobile device.
UGREEN 3.5mm 1/8" TRS to Dual 6.35mm 1/4" TS Mono Stereo Y-Cable Splitter Cord Compatible for iPhone, iPod, Computer Sound Cards, CD Players, Multimedia Speakers and Home Stereo Systems 15FT www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZKM3SDO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_4CPXFbZ0DN137?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
That'll do the job!
I like it but having to pay for overlays needs to change. Great video though, thanks!
It does seem a strange decision from the company, I am sure not many people would be prepared to pay a sub just for that, so it'll just drive potential customers to more fully featured options elsewhere.
If I am in a situation where I don’t have Wi-Fi for any random reason, would I be able to record the set and post it onto streaming platforms at a later time with this camera?
Yes
how exactly does using your phones 4g to stream work? Does the app need to stay open? or can it happen in the background? This is my current issue with using iOS for streaming, any notification drops my stream since the app goes into the background.
Yes, it is a downside of the app. You need to keep the app front. Best thing to do is switch off all notifications. Note that the original single-cam Mevo app doesn't have this issue, so if it is still available (haven't checked recently) you could try using that one.
Hello. The product is interesting ... but I need to understand if it is possible to connect it to a control switch such as Atem mini or Yolobox with an hdmi adapter. Can you help me? Massimo from Montecatini Terme, Toscana
They're not made for that, so I'd say they won't be a good choice for you there.
@@digitaldjtips Thanks
Does this allow you to go live to TikTok without needing the RMTP? I can go live to TikTok on my phone but not on PC.
Don't think so, not last time we checked.
does it work with any dj control like the ddj 400?
Not sure what you mean Jonas, the camera? Yes it'll work with any audio source. You’ll have to figure out a way of getting the audio to it as well as your speakers, a simple splitter cable or adaptor should do it.
I assume it being app-based I can use a Samsung Tab instead of my phone?
As long as the mevo app will run on it, yes.
Where did you get that overlay that displays your social media handles and etc?
Our graphic designer made it for us.
@@digitaldjtips amazing is it possible I can reach out to him for one
Can I use an Irig with the mevo cameras
If you mean one of the audio interface iRigs, there's no need, as the Mevo has an audio interface built in - you just need an audio cable.
How can i get in contact with you? I need some help using mixer with sam broadcaster. Of course i will contract your service. Thansk very much.
I’m afraid we are an online school, we don’t have personal tuition. Try our Global DJ Network Facebook Group.
How would you use it with a 750mk2
The same way you'd use it with any gear :)
I have purchased this device and now when I live stream to a platform like twitch it’s a terrible lag.
There is always a lag when livestreaming, whatever gear you use - it is how livestreaming works. Expect 5-25 seconds.
Does it look this good out of the box? I notice you have a white background, yet the camera is exposing for your skin. Nice.
The camera is pretty good and has lots of manual controls so you can tweak the picture, too.
Since it’s wifi is that gonna be laggy for streaming?
All streaming is "laggy", by several seconds.
Can you still receive text messages while streaming
Yeah
Does the app work with IPADs?
Yes
Yea the price is a tad high especially since you have to pay for overlays and services to make the camera work well. The quality is excellent if they included the rest at no extra cost it be worth it. Net little product. Great review.
Thanks for your feedback 👍
I wanted one until you said the price and the subscriptions. lol
Not cheap but it's awesome :)
$400 bucks ... its nice but a little expensive... they need to please slice the price
You certainly need to be serious about your livestreaming, but it does do an awful lot.
@@digitaldjtips anyone livestreaming is serious about what they do.. $400 plus pay for overlays. Using a laptop is not that much of a hassle. Also you only get 1 camera angle with the mevo. When i can use my old iphone and get multiple angles. Dont get me wrong its nice.. i just think its a little expensive
Plenty of people livestreaming casually so not sure what you mean by that, not everyone is after the very best gear and significantly investing in it
Thanks Phil @djsammy.b
No problem!
Poor video quality
What's your point?
@@digitaldjtips see the video quality from these cameras and you will clearly see my point . Overall great cameras and software just need better video quality and I am all in
