Fun fact related to the pothos cutting hack: some native cultures used to speed up propagation of trees and other large, slow to root cuttings by planting a corn seed beneath them- when the seed germinated, it would release some growth hormone and help the cuttings to root! 🌿

Thank you so much for reminding me of the pothos cutting hack! I've heard of it before but never tried it out, and I have a splendid cutting that is growing a new leaf but no new roots, so I'm throwing in 2 pothos cuttings now! I've got lots of spare green pothos.

I think the idea behind these orbeez is that the plant only gets water if they soak it out of the balls while having a lot of airflow ( lower risk of rootrot ). Putting more water in was maybe not the best for this hack.
But I’m looking forward to see results, might be cool and surprising😄
orbeez were originally sold for plants stuff, they're pretty good for bamboo if I remember correctly

These were awesome hacks! Many times the plant hacks are just crazy and don't work so thank you for introducing us some that actually work😊 I knew about pothos releasing growth hormone but others I hadn't heard...

I do believe there is power in pothos when it comes to rooting but I'm a perlite girl through and through.
I had a scindapsus cutting rooting in water for six weeks with no singns of roots but when I put it in moist perlite it grew roots in two days! After that I've used perlite on rooting Monstera, Pihilos, Hoya and Epipremniums and all of them have given me roots in under a week. ❤
could you use pothos prop water to moisten your perlite? then you get the best of both worlds!

What interesting hacks! I haven't actually seen any of them. The rooting hormone one is interesting. I may have to get some pothos cuttings to see if it will help my propagations.
The Skeleton leaf looked so cool! I have to try this one...once I get a good enough leaf.
The comb one does make sense for succulent leaf propagtion I would use this for my succulents if propagating in water. They are suggested to be an inch above the water to encourage roots as they will search for the water.

I've tried pothos cuttings rooting with scindapsis and it worked really well for me too. Scindapsis is usually so slow! I want to try the Christmas cactus comb hack now, thanks for the tips! 🌱

This was sooo much fun to watch
So interesting as we’ve always had Christmas cacti and always rooted them initially on a dry piece of kitchen paper. I have rooted them in perlite/vermiculite too but always felt odd rooting a cacti in water. Will definitely try this out, x

One of my new alocasia frydek’s leaves snapped in transit so I’m trying the Skeleton leaf trick on it in hopes it works. Fingers crossed!!
Similar to the Christmas cactus hack... I use old styrofoam packaging and cut slits in it. I put leaves in the slits, and it makes them float over the water.
Oooh that’s even better as you don’t need to worry about water level!

Know what I would do with the skeleton leaf? Dry brush it with a metallic paint over the dominant veins and the edges with the bits that wouldn't quite come off then mount it on a black board, but I am a dirty maximallist and that's pretty much my answer to everything lol

Also, just last week I thought that maybe watering globes could work for moss poles! I am not experienced with moss poles, I only have one small one as of recently, but already I was looking for better ways to keep it moist 😅 I will keep on experimenting!
I found an idea online for a self watering moss pole. Im making one tomorrow for my monstera. It uses rope in a PVC pole that wicks moisture out from top to bottom of the sphagnum moss. Just gotta keep the pipe filled with water.
yeah I couldn't believe how much difference the pothos cuttings made! Guess that's why it's useful to have big pothos plants!
Have you tried using the cup method? poking pinholes in the bottom of a plastic cup and setting that on top of the pole & filling with water. It slowly goes down dampening the pole

I'd say it was worth it!
16:35 a hack I read on reddit a while ago is using wicks to hydrate your moss poles. It works really well even for bone dry ones and you don't have a problem with overwatering the soil!
You just have to get a string made from natural fiber (e.g. wool) and a bowl of water. Wet the string and then connect the moss with the bowl using the string.
I'm building a self watering moss pole tomorrow that will be watered thru the pole itself...
I have used self watering moss poles before but they're limited in size and I had many issues with mould which is less than ideal.. I've got a video on them from a while back if that helps
@@GoodGrowing I had the same problems with self watering moss poles! The string is on the outside though and can be taken of and reattached whenever needed
I actually think the edge on your skeleton leaves adds some character and definition! Frame them and hang them the look awesome!
yeah I defo don't mind it. I was more just worried it might rot but I guess if it's properly dried it should be alright 🤷♀️
I used to make skeleton leaves all the time as a kid, you just need to stick the leaf in some rain water. It takes time, but it works.

I thought that the purpose of the water beads are to hold the water and the roots wick it? I’ve mostly ever seen people soak the beads first and once they are to size, strain the water out and put the cutting in. I also bought a peace Lily that was in just beads/no water. I’ve never seen it done filled with that much water. I’m curious to see how this works out just like rooting in water, or if it would essentially over water?
Tbh I have no idea 😅 I wouldn’t think they’d be able to absorb water from the beads though??

I think the Orbeez are just for a nice look, then pure water. I don't think they have any purpose. Maybe for better standing in the vessel
Nice. Have you changed the water for that whole month for pothos trick? Coz I heard to replace water propa frequently due to oxygen depleted or algae forming? Should we change or not, otherwise rooting hormone wouldn't take effect? Thank u
