Hard. That's all I can remember from this game. I was surprised at how a game that was aimed to children could be such a challenge.
Couldn't agree more! Very unfair design. The magical quest starring mickey mouse was close in difficulty but not bad. This was almost punishing. And with no way to save....
Not trying to brag but I did beat this one on both genesis and snes while renting it over the 5 day period at blocibuster back in the day. 94? Hmmm I musta been about 8 years old or so

This is one of the most underrated games,the game play was good,the graphics were colorful /beautiful and the music my god was amazing,might have been the first time were music in a video game sounded like real music

The game looks absolutely stunning with gorgeous sprite work and very smooth animation. I love how the Steamboat Willie level slowly gains color and how each level mirrors the palettes used in their respective cartoons. It's a shame the gameplay doesn't match up. It's a frustrating game in which you get hit far too easily. Coupled with a steep difficulty curve it's hard to go back to this one.
Graphics wise this game is one of the best Mickey games. Gameplay wise I prefer the Magical Quest trilogy.
I always liked the food level. Jumping on top of the jello and mixing portions earlier in the game. The moose gone rampages always gave me a panic attack 😨 Scary as a kid.
I was dumb as a child.. could never get past the second level... and when I did it was time to take it back to blockbusters 😖😲😵lol
Christina I know exactly how you feel. That happened to me too. It was a hard game to play and to beat as well when I was a kid.

29:19 here is were the end was for me. Never could get that jump to the other chandelier.
The worst part for me was at 15:20. Fortunately I actually could get past that, but I dread that part even as of today.

For anyone who's wondering why you don't meet Mad Doctor Mickey during his level, it's because he's actually a secret. At the end of the elevator level when the door opens walk out and walk back in. The door closes and takes you up one more level. There is where you find him.
It's also an alternate ending to that level, which is useful for speed runs and if you don't want to fight the boos.
I was talking with a friend on Xbox about how much games have changed. We spoke of Mickey Mania and it made me search CZcams. I watched this entire video and thought how did 10 year old me even manage to beat this game 23 years ago. Multiple times. It took a while but wow! Memories! Miss my Sega Genesis.
This has got to be the most underrated game and soundtrack ever.

Very memorable. Liked the secret area in the skeleton level when you supposed to get off the lift but you stay on and it takes you further up and you meet your twin, get scared and he drops a lit match and it goes black, u end up outside the lab.
Graphics, character models and soundtrack are such great quality and rep disney animation amazingly.
The archers, the boo ghosts, top notch character models almost never found again in disney games
After the moose part the game got very difficult and i dont remembered much more but seeing the prince and the pauper if im not mistaken.

getting so many weird nostalgic feelings right now. my great-aunt had the SNES and this game when she and her family moved out to Australia from Germany 16 yrs ago. She and her family were crammed into a tiny townhouse unit in Ashfield in Sydney at my Gran's place, my Gran still had one of those old VHF (or UHF, can't remember) TVs with the rabbit ears antenna. Remember all the visits to my Gran's I spent most of the time with my cousins in front of the TV playing this game and a handful of other SNES games. All I had at home at the time was the Sega Master System II but then around this time another cousin came over from Germany over Easter holidays and me and him made friends with some Japanese kids in another townhouse in the same complex and they had the Playstation (never heard of Playstation til this time) and remember the game was Tekken 2. Got the Playstation that Christmas and got Mickey's Wild Adventure which was the remake of this game. and so 16 + years of awesome (and sometimes awful) gaming experiences began. Even though I've had a PS2 and now the PS3 since, I still own the game and it even now some times gets played when I'm feeling all weird and sentimental.
In case you didnt know, Mickey Mania was out on Mega Drive aswell

The second level is what made me be scare of this game when I was a kid. The background music, those skeletons, the bats, the background. everything on that lever was super scary to me when I played that game.
I love this game's soundtrack! Its one of the hardest games but the soundtrack is the best!

When I played this as a kid, 7:45 was when I had given up all hope and dreams of seeing the rest of the game.
I played the game first as a kid, and I went back and watched the cartoons that they are referencing and loved so many of the little details that they follow.
I´m so lucky that i got games like these when i was little, this game is so nice :)
When I was a child in the 90's there was a place where you could buy time to play SNES games. This was one of the games I used to love either play it myself or watch the other boys play it.
I was just telling my son about this game. He was watching olds school mickey cartoons, it reminded me of this game. I come here and realize that I wasnt the only who thought it was difficult I hated how hard this game was but I couldn't stop playing it 🤦♂️

That 3D rotation effect aswell that 3D crane effect in this game blows my mind, trough this game is damm hard and it's manytimes hard to tell wich part becomes part of the background and wich are the platforms to jump on,also the hit detection seems unreliable along with unstable jumps.

This game had a ton of graphics for a 16-bit system, and all of that data had to be heavily compressed on the cart, which then had to be decompressed when the level loaded.
The genesis had a faster CPU.

I remember seeing the commercial and the box art looking all serious and thought this game will make Mickey take no crap from anyone and kick some major butt. False advertisement in my eyes. Just another whimsical adventure that's all.

Disney went hardcore with this one. They put the titular mouse in some cartoons that defined him, and made it helly hard. As for allies, it's slim pickin's. No Donald, no Goofy, no Minnie, and no mercy.

@ORUPRANKSTAZ, sad thing is... the megadrive/genesis version was more complex, as it had all these nice little touches the snes version was missing (as well as one or two extra levels), and didn't have any loading screens

I could never get too far in this game playing it as a kid. But I think it made me better at reaction games, like Mario did.
LOL it's alright. In that same segment you were talking about, the SNES version has a slightly longer walk into the mansion, as well as an extra layer of parallax and a moon in the far background, so at least it beats the Genesis version in that respect.
I think this game was developed on the genesis and then given a quick port to the SNES. and it shows...

Traveller's tales did both versions, it's just easy to tell the version they did first.
that's basically what i said, if it was developed on the SNES first they would have designed the game in a way that it woudn't need as much cpu power. genesis games are designed to take advantage of the system's crazy fast cpu, which doesn't transition very well to the SNES.

nostalgia overload
A few setpieces and animations actually remind me slightly of Adventures of Lomax (which I actually played, unlike this), which makes me wonder if Henk Nieborg was a fan of this game and used it as inspiration and if Lomax could have been something more amazing like this if it was given more time in development instead of rushed in a year. The animation overall here is really superb, and I quite like the music; those skeletons in the Mad Doctor's lab in particular.
