I'm a musician I play the 88's & I do mostly rock n roll, early jazz, stride & boogie woogie & ragtime. I've never had a favorite song until I heard this for some reason it inspires me more than any other song the ultimate feel good song. Happy Days are Here Again is my favorite song. If this song don't lift you up then nothing will.

After my divorce I would only get to see my kids every other weekend, and it was always a special time, so I wrote new lyrics to this song and we all sang "Daddy Days Are Here Again!"

    So long sad times
    Go long bad times
We are rid of you at last
    Howdy gay times
    Cloudy gray times
You are now a thing of the past
    Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So let's sing a song of cheer again
    Happy days are here again
    Altogether shout it now
    There's no one
    Who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
    Happy days are here again
Your cares and troubles are gone
There'll be no more from now on
    From now on ...

The song was introduced right after the stock market crash in 1929, possibly even the evening of October 29, if memory is at all accurate, here. The band wondered whether to perform the number at all, and finally decided to go ahead.
They say that ruined stock brokers and bankers at the club that night were even singing along sarcastically in their despair, throwing confetti in the air and pretend that everything was going to be okay. Of course, we know it only got worse from there.

BigBen Hebdomadarius The earliest recorded version to be found here on CZcams IS the version by The Casa Loma Orchestra, and yes it was INDEED, recorded on the very day of the stock market crash, October 29, 1929! Ironic, Huh?

@TheHitch6287 no denying that FDR came to the office with greater experience and prestige. But FDR was likewise accused of achieving mediocre results while over-taxing and over-spending. FDR might have gotten better results by having huge majorities of his own party in Congress, and long coattails that even extended into state governments that flipped. We were lucky to have him while Europe had leaders like Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini.

I see that this was written 3 years ago, but BHO has provided absolutely zero hope. The difference between President Roosevelt and President Obama besides the former being Assistant Secretary of the Navy during WWI and Governor of New York, is that FDR provided results and leadership, while the current man in the White House has done nothing but overspending and point the blame elsewhere

Dude what are you talking about? In 1935 the highest the stock market got was 146. In 1929, the high was 379. It took over 25 years for the stock price to hit the 1929 level again. FDR screwed us royally with all of his "new deal' programs. Maybe YOU should be the one reading history.

FDR got the US out of the hoover depression, just like Joe Biden is getting us out of the trump depression. You can always know the republicans will find a way to screw up the economy. bush ran the US economy into the ground too, save by Obama.

Bush leaving with a lower rating than Nixon? That's pretty good then, since Nixon was a pretty good president. FDR was a pretty terrible president, all in all. I think comparing Obama to him is actually more insulting to Obama than to anyone else.
