70s is arguably the best time period for music. Maybe even better than my beloved 80s music. Maybe.
A masterpiece of joy and beautifully harmonized vocals... Sad this era ended.
The era ended? I’d like to know where, you got the notion. 🤷🏻♂️
It ended allright but now look up Jesus is coming..Joy in Heaven forevermore !

I feel you. RIP to my parents as well. They jammed this song on the stereo phonograph during the Summer Of 1974 when I was 9.
I am now 66 years of age. When I was 16 years old, I worked with Bernard
St. Claire Lee ( man with headband in video), House of Pancakes, 443
East Manchester blvd, Inglewood, California. This was before Hues
Corporation became recognized. He was an opening cook and I was a weekend bus boy. He would rehearse after work. I am pleased he got recognized for his talent. He was truly a nice man and I don't recall
him ever saying anything bad about anyone else. He passed away a couple
of years ago. He grew up in Santa Monica, Ca and was part American
Indian. I remember him fondly. He gained recognition after " Rock the
Boat" and did sound track for the late 1970s Black spoliation movies. I
became a doctor of optometry at age 26.We never met up after leaving the
House of Pancakes.
That is awesome! Little tidbits and this song make the world a happy place.
Wow! I really like the story...😘

We are blessed that the Lord let's us keep these memories after already blessing us the first time in having the experience in the first place. Family, while at times one of the great source of tribulations, provides us with the context which we bring with us in our lives and the love that underlies this context, these experiences and the family itself is unique in being a reflection of the love we are shown by the Divine for the world itself. One of the signatures of the creator in left to reassure Creation and sustain our faith. May the blessings rain down upon you and your family.
This performers from our times had talent and they didn't need to say bad words in their songs. Thank God I grew up in the 70's. Still listening to this music in 2020 and beyond!!
Bellissima canzone voce dolcissima adoro questa grande musica strumentale e la più bella canzone di tutti i tempi ricordo la mia gioventù quando cantavano questa canzone super bellissima. 💯💯💯💯👏👏👏👏
And they could convey the (non-obscene) words by pure good diction without depending utterly upon spot mikes.

This and Rock Your Baby got huge airplay and were the songs that ushered in the DISCO era folks!!
That's right!!
It was a noticeable change in dance music at the time.
If I recall correctly, 1974 (the year this was a hit) was the year Billboard created their dance chart, and a lot of that had to do with the success of this song and the obvious tide of new dance music flooding in. Rock The Boat wasn’t the first disco song, but it was definitely the first big disco hit, and as you said it ushered in a new decade-defining craze.
I was 11 in the Bronx when this dropped. It was everywhere. Just a phenomenal song

This is the first record I ever bought. It was a ‘45, and I purchased it from this small record shop in Brooklyn when I was a little girl. Music was magical back then. 😌😌😌😌
AM radio back in the summer of 1974 played song alot at that time.... I miss the 70s so much.
77WABC AM Baby! Dan Ingram, Harry Harrison, Chuck Leonard, Ron Lundy! Yes! Yes!
This song brings me back to my childhood. My mother would drive me in the family Plymouth Belvedere which we called "the Chug-a-boom" because of the sound it made when you turned the key in the ignition. I'd ask her if she could turn on the radio and I'd often hear this song, among other top 40 songs at the time. This is the first time I've seen who made the song a hit.
This made me laugh. Only oldies like us can remember how we prayed the car would start and get us to our destination, or if we would be walking along the road to get there.

I was born in 72' and this is the first song I remember as a child almost 50 yrs later...😂👍🏾. That's the power of timeless music.
I was born in 95 but I sure wish I knew what life was like in the 70s. Heard this song growing up and feel the nostalgia so I can’t imagine living life in the 70s 🥺
If you had a lovely and warm childhood, than you are happy with any decade i think. I was happy than in the 70's, and surely it was a lovely period in time. People are still the same at any day in time. The music was wonderful that's for sure!!
Grew up in the 70's IT ROCKED we played music all the time.
Same. I spent all my teenage years hearing about how weird it was that I only listened to "old people music" lol and here I am, still doin it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Viviana, The 70's was THE BEST!!!!
It's everything you heard and more.
I was 17 when I listened to this mega hit in a night club in 1973. 50 years later, it still produces the same emotion in me. this timeless and meaningful melody nostalgically awakens my childhood memories. it is often said that lost time is never made up for, sometimes yes...
I know this song was originally released on an LP in late ‘73, but the single itself wasn’t released until May ‘74, and it didn’t become the big dance hit that we all know and love until that summer. It was extremely rare to play deep album (non-single) cuts at dance clubs back then, so you were pretty lucky to hear it that early on a dance floor.
I'm still listening in 2024! Music used to have feeling and was going somewhere. I looked this song up on utube and it brings it all back home.
