  • The elegant simplicity of the lightsaber is often regarded as the most valuable object in the possession of a Jedi or Sith. But as we explored in a recent holocron, this was certainly not the case for the ancient Sith, with many preferring the gruesome brutality of a traditional metal sword. As for the JEdi, their reverence for the lightsaber dates back much further than the Sith. To a Jedi, the lightsaber was more than a weapon; it was an extension of their connection to the Force, a physical manifestation of their oath to use their power to protect and preserve life. Due to this deep connection, the lightsaber therefore transformed into the unofficial the symbol of the order, becoming deeply entrenched within the often dogmatic views of the high council.
The High Council of the Jedi Order held a firm stance on the use of the lightsaber, deeming it the only appropriate weapon for a Jedi. This belief was rooted in the idea that the lightsaber required a connection to the Force, promoting discipline and control. In contrast, blasters, with their destructive and impersonal nature, were considered uncivilized and were outright rejected by the Council.
But history shows that such a dogmatic adherence to the lightsaber is ironic. Unknown to most Jedi historians, the Jedi Order was literally founded on its rejection of the lightsaber. AS those of you who have watched our Star Wars legends timeline will know, the Jedi were once known as the Je’daii, adhering to a strict balance in the force. But after the invasion of their homeworld by the blood thirsty ancient infinite empire of the Rakata, many of the Je’daii embraced the Rakatas weapon, the force saber, an ancient variation of the lightsaber.
However, once the Rakata were repelled, the Je’daii descended into civil war between followers of the light, known as Ashla and followrs of the dark, known as Bogan. The causes of this war revolved around philosophy. The lightside Je’daii rejected the early lightsaber and the dark side, whilst the dark side Jedi embraced it and the greater power it granted them.
The followers of Bogan were eventuaklly defeated. The remaining lightside Je’daii reformed themselves drastically, renaming themselves the Jedi and developing the Jedi Code. Having rejected the early form of lightsaber, the Jedi reverted back to using force imbued swords: not again taking up the lightsaber for another few thousand years.
Thus, it becomes clear that the rejection of the formidable lightsaber is perhaps one of the most Jedi-like things a practitioner of the force could do. Amidst this historical backdrop, a few groups emerged that dismissed the lightsaber, or at the very least severely reduced its importance within their teachings. But as we shall see, all of these Jedi sects were rejected by the JEdi, either due to philisophical differences, or outright discrimination, often leading to violent conftro0ntations.
Let us start with the Teepo Paladins. Initially, these mavericks held a controversial belief that blasters, when used in conjunction with the force, could complement the lightsaber in battle. This ideology was not only a practical consideration but also a philosophical stance that the Force could guide a Jedi's actions regardless of the tool in hand. After some experimentation, this jedi sect came to believe that lightsabers actually werent that dependable, instead relying upon whatever weapon the practioner felt comfortable with.
The origins of these renegade Jedi unfolds during the tumultuous era of the New Sith Wars, approximately a millennium before the events of "A New Hope." A Jedi Lord known as Teepo, alongside his loyal followers, the Paladins, chose to defy conventional wisdom regarding the lightsaber. Teepo, rallied his forces to join Lord Hoth's Army of Light, a coalition formed to combat the Sith's Brotherhood of Darkness. Under Teepo's command, these Jedi Paladins not only protected countless worlds from the encroaching Sith Empire but also played a pivotal role in various battles across the galaxy. Indeed, they fought alongside the Jedi in the final few battles against the Sith.
. Driven by a desire to deepen their connection to the Force, the Teepo Paladins adorned masks designed to enhance their sensitivity to the Force's ebbs and flows. This practice was emblematic of their broader philosophy that a Jedi's prowess was not confined to traditional methods but could be augmented through various means, including force imbued technology.

This has me wondering just how many bridges did the Jedi burn with other Force groups. And how many was Luke and the New Jedi Order able to rebuild? I know the Jensaarai and Keldor Sages are the most prominent examples but are there any others?

Legends, Luke's Yavin Jedi academy had just about everybody.
Novel, " Courtship of Princess Leia " had force witches and night sisters. They send their sons/daughters as young teenagers to Luke's school to train with the Solo twins and kid Anakin.
Smugglers , rebel pilots, card/dice cheats, rebel special forces rotate every few months help with guarding the place and training students along with leaving their teenagers there.
Former imperials brough in by Mara Jade former Emperor Hand, other imperial special forces and dark/grey Jedi that served Palpatine directly.
Since many of the Hands were raised by Palpatine to regard him as a dotting elder grand uncle or godfather, they all have .. daddy ..issues.
Ever heard of military barrack humor ?
b.) The Vong War, by that time old concept of .. read between the lines .. Luke & family were moving force sensitive refuges through a ground base space port who locals blood lines trace back 3,000 years ago in what was Sith space. Smugglers all of them with a spiritual and cultist culture. They just stayed quiet and played nice with the Jedi of leave and be left alone. ( .. how else can they say there are still ancient Sith tribes and clans and not say it. )
When first introduce over a few years of novels they just stated if you grew up near or in a darkside nexus. You learn to embrace your inner aggression and control it or the wildlife will eat you. Then the writers slow sprinkle they look for shady Sith items and are cultists. Sith .. Lords .. or would be emperors cause mass damage and loss of family populations. Sith culture was rooted in family blood lines before the corrupt Jedi showed up. ( .. I didn't knew were Wicca ? ..)
Working for Hutts as smugglers, some smuggler clans works for Hutts and other clans the Hutt are on a waiting shipment list pay them to run jobs as pilots and builders. Other than delivery drivers they farm hunt exotic dangerous animals as a food export as a cover for setting up force cloak shrines for smuggling houses.

      Star Wars easter egg, ..
1980's Marvel Star Wars comics Princess Leia was being hunted by a bounty hunter who though she was a Naboo senator that went missing at the end of the Clone War.
Lucas was trying to figure out where to fit in Padme as Leia's mother decades ago.
Novels of Tales from Jabba;s Palace and Tales of the Bounty Hunters.
Throw away couple of sentences, " Every year within a two week span Vader shows up on Tatooine and kills single handed Everything in that valley. No one is brave enough to ask him why. "
( Anyone that played multiple RPG system and read other fiction will know. Mass killing with over wheeling emotions create haunted locations. Otherwise a darkside nexus and nexus locations are where you draw out manna for spells.)
Vader shows up to Jabba and Jabba has some group of fools try to kill Vader in front of him. Jadda says to prove it is not some pretender in a costume. Vader kills scrum with a mere flex. Its how they say hello to each other. Even Jabba does Not ask why he kills the sand people that try to set up in that valley."
We debated for eight years why they wrote those lines. In legends Ben told Luke that Owen Lars was his brother.
      Then the Prequals came out.

The Jedi were aware of most Force Using groups. most they simply ignored as long as they weren't obviously Darkside. That doesn't say there wasn't animosity. The Jedi and most other groups had a religious angle and many of them thought the others were heretical. But the Jedi in general were tolerant of these groups as long as they avoided the Darkside.
The Jensaari were a group that idolized the Sith as the true first Force-Users and the Jedi as usurpers. The Jedi could not very well ignore that. Luke found perhaps as many as a dozen groups of Force Users scattered around the Galaxy and tried to convince them to join the New Jedi Order. A few came to teach skills that were poorly known outside the group, but never officially joined though some did.

I've never heard of the Jensaarai before this video, and I already love them. They're basically a combination of Jedi, Sith, and Mandalorians in the most balanced way possible. I'd probably want to be one instead of Jedi, Sith, or Mandalorian, to be honest

Funny, there is a Clone Wars Era comic (with an art style inspired by Gennedy's Clone Wars miniseries) where Yoda defends a planet from the Seperatists using a giant minigun style blaster! Guess the comic writers didn't get the memo or Yoda was willing to weapons other than a Lightsaber when necessary (he didn't have any clones with him cause it was a distant world that Yoda had come to defend alone as he was sure the Republic wouldn't waste resources defending it)!

    1st!
Edit: you may have seen but I had the idea of doing a video about the ancient tribe of Sith on Kesh. These Sith lived back to 5000 BBY, wielded black lightsabers (when they were invented), and (maybe) they fought Luke Skywalker, and seeked out Abeloth.
Just thought it seemed like an interesting idea!
P.S. I saw the poll, thanks for putting my idea there!

I would be intrested to see something about how the Jedi would deal with slugthrowers and other projectial wepons once used against them, and if they would be able to melt the slug before it hit them. Because if they were quite effective to jedi that would be intreuging, i would also be interested to see a small analysis of the speed of slugs vs the speed of a blaster shot, because the lazers often look slow especially when i have to lead my shots in bf2. 😅Thanks VF

I’d honestly go for a character with the jensaari mindset, but isn’t afraid to learn what he can of the force by observing other force organizations. I strongly feel like this character would be an artisan as well as a fighter. Acknowledging light and dark, but definitely reaping the benefits being able to dip your foot in both through crafting weapons and armor.

Yeah, I think it was Red Letter Media itself that pointed out that a lightsaber doesn't seem like the ideal weapon for any Jedi, pointing to Yareal Poof's absurdly long neck and Kit Fisto's flesh-dreads. I would have respected it if Disney had Rey decide to keep her stick, and only use a lightsaber as a last resort and/or dueling weapon.
Also, have we ever seen any Jedi or Sith use a lightsaber and shield? We know there are fields that can block a lightsaber, and it would make for some spectacular fight choreography.

Damn! The more you find out about Star Wars and the history and lives of the people the more you realize that there are no heros. Many bad guys, but to what extent are they actually evil? Also what happened that caused them to be evil or to do bad things. Then you also have to question where the accusations are coming from and who's accusing someone in the first place. It's all up to debate, everyone's evil fromfrom a certain point of view. .
