Man, all these anchormen/women gave me some serious nostalgia. Glenn Schwartz, my man!!
HURRICANE Schwartz!
Born and raised in Wilmington Delaware all of this footage was so nostalgic for me thank you for putting it together and posting
Thank you so much for keeping the comments open. I don't really have anything to add, but I love being able to read the memoirs and experiences of those affected by this storm, as well as the tv reports.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for posting this. I am from the Philadelphia area and remember this storm well. I was working nights at the time of the storm and had pulled into my driveway just as the first flakes started falling on Sunday morning. I was scheduled to go to work Sunday night but the Governor of PA declared an emergency so I got the night off. I would have been paid for it if my buddy hadn't decided to stay at my employers all day so he be there for his shift that night. Long story short if he hadn't stayed there than all of the employees would have been paid. He thought it was great to get all of the OT, think it was about 26 hours, until he got his paycheck and they took most of it because of taxes.
I did the big "good Samaritan" thing for my employer in Feb. '85 (I was an RN.) Stayed at the facility all day after I got off work at 7:30am then worked my shift that night. Enough people got in that they didn't need me except for a couple of hours in the evening. The one thing good about it is I met my wife who was a CNA then and stayed over from evenings; we've been married now for 36 years.
@@indy_go_blue6048 I also did the same thing way back when. I was working Security at the Docks. The South Shore Yacht club. The job was OK especially on the weekends, when all of the boat parties happened. LOL. I normally worked 2nd or 3rd shift. My initial schedule was 1:30pm-10:00pm. The 1:30-2:00 overlay was designed so that the Guard coming in got a "report" on any possible issues. Which usually numbered um, ZERO...LOL. I worked my shift. At 10:05pm I got a call from the "supervisor" who asked, "Could you PLEASE work a double shift?" Which like a goof I agreed. At 6am the day shift supervisor called and said the 6am morning guard was sick. He asked me AGAIN, I said I already worked a double. WTH? He asked me to cover until 9 or 10am. If he couldn't find anyone he'd come in himself. That NEVER happened. FINALLY at 1:30, ironically when my next shift was supposed to start, I got "relieved" and I got the next two days off. I've worked 16 hours before this doing more physical labor. This was much easier, and the fact that I had a coffee maker and lots of coffee☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕ helped. That and I was only 22 and I was used to staying up late, sometimes all night drives. Still though after walking up and down every pier. 12 of them, my feet were killing me! The paycheck was nice since the job didn't pay squat. Almost 20 hours of overtime helped.
I was in my sophomore year of high school when this happened. I lived in South Philly at the time, and went to high school in Montgomery County. We had no school for almost two weeks, and midterms were canceled. I also remember the excess snow was being dumped into the Delaware River.
Forecast was for one inch at one point.
It’s crazy I’m 34 weather nut. I know exactly where I was and what I was doing during these 11pm news forecasts before the storm.
It doesn't even snow ❄️ 😢like that no more
Blast from the past, I remember that storm well..
Great video!
Drove back on NJ Turnpike that night. One lane from exit 8 to exit 4 @ 3 am. Lived in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. Never saw snow like that up there in one storm. Never will forget this snowstorm!
I was 16 at the time living in Long Island, and I was so fascinated by this storm (also this and the blizzard of '93 are the storms that for me into meteorology).. this one was waaaay more snow than '93 because in '93 it changed to freezing rain for a few hours, then back to snow, but this one was all snow!
Damn bro, not to be weird but you look good for 42. Would have guessed 30 by looking at your pick. I was only 2 when this happened, lol.
I was only 13 and made an igloo from all the snow.
Hey that 93 storm was better for rail sledding!
Hell, look at Cecily Tynan at 1:57:00, cool. She has really changed her look today.
When the news becomes the news. You know there is nothing more to say on the subject.
Best Wishes from Montana M.H

Thanks for this video! This is one of the blizzards I remembered distinctly. It sure brings back memories with the Philly area news clips and the old weather channel updates with the background music. One thing I remember is when it was time to clean up the snow, the level was up to the windows of my car! I had an old (back then) Sunbeam electric snowblower that could only do so much but it made the job a little easier not having to shovel the whole time.
I remember the blizzard of 1996. I was only 19 years old at the time when it first occurred. I was only a freshmen in college at the time.
We got almost 4 feet of snow with 12+foot snow drifts in Southern Huntingdon county PA that storm. I remember having to crawl out of my bedroom window to shovel out the door of our trailer. It was insane!
I grew up in the desert and have no connection to this blizzard yet it is perfect background sound when I’m home alone or dozing off
Awesome video!
I will never forget it, i remember the thunder and lightening it produced. It seemed to snow forever and when it was done the city had to get trucks and load the snow and dump in the river.
I was 9 years old when this hit. So much as a kid, I’m 34 now I would hate it lol
It was fun! I was 21 and loved every minute! Shoveling was tough though!
93 and 96 were the best winters ever, I was 12 in 93 and remember all the snow very well, but I also remember everything freezing up after. 96 was a blast as well, I remember everyone being trapped in our neighborhood cause of the 5 1/2 ft of snow, except one guy who had a big jacked up Chevrolet Scottsdale square body truck with big mud tires on it, he was the only person able to get out, so he started going door to door asking everyone in the neighborhood if we needed to go to the store or get fuel or anything, then for the older folks instead of making them come out he told them to make up a list of necessities and he would get it for them as he was running others back n forth.
I was in my Kindergarten year 6 years old at Avondale Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama across the street to my Apartment Clairmont Southside
I think we might have a repeat and this winter season 2023-2024
I was caught in this on I95 in a Pontiac firebird.....the tow trucks were in the ditches up and down the highway.....I left pa. and there was a whiteout when I got Maryland....no cell phones....I think I only made it because of a praying momma....I could hear the snow crunching under my car🙄🙄🙄🧡
I was 6 years old and i actually remember thia storm. The snow was to my waste. I had never seen anything like that lol. I think its why i actually remember so vividly.
I remember it when living in South Jersey. A Native of NJ
It's the 25th anniversary in 2021 of the blizzard of 96 this winter. That winter of 95-96 was all time record of snow here in boston which started snowing a lot after Thanksgiving 1995 and broke the record until snow blitz of 2014-15 winter broke that and it didn't start snowing until late January with the 1st snowstorm a blizzard and it it was constant snowstorms until like mid n.v arch that and broke the old winter snow record of 95-96 and snow blitz 2015 only was like 6 weeks of snow not 3 to 4 months of the whole winter.
Thank you!
I caught the '83 blizzard in Manhattan was stuck at a friend's coming back at 87th and second in a cab for two hours until I got out 86th was paved driver I smoked weed with picked me up two weeks later in my lobby.
🧢
I do remember. That was the year I moved from Pennsylvania to Florida. Srsly. Nope. 1996 October. They were dumptrucking loads of snow into the Susquehanna River...there was NO WHERE to put it all
That was crazy!
I was 11 when this happened
Fascinating. That looks scary
I remember . My first winter on the mountain in Va. I opened my blinds , all I saw was snow covering the glass had to get on a chair to see above it. Went out on my lanui & cooked steaks on the grill. It lasted 4 days.
Blizzard Of 1996
did we ever get that second storm ? Funny I remember so much but not that.
Philly had a Winter Storm Warning for 4-7” but we got much less with a quick changeover to rain. I was disappointed! 😀
I bought my house this year after this storm I bought a big blower and it didn't snow for 6 years lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣
I like how they have people to bag groceries. Good old days.
Plowed snow for 24 hrs straight
