I remember back in my elementary school days, a lot of the school buses I rode on were gasoline-powered Chevrolet Bluebirds with 366 V8 engines with the classic whine of the Allison AT-545 transmission in the first two gears. I could tell which bus had which transmission not just because of the numbers they had, but also because of how high the whine went, the position of the windshield wipers, the grilles, and the license plates.
the nostalgia of that Allison wine! I grew up on both series, the b series, and the GMT 530. That extremely loud fuel pump in that 366 big block, and there was also the CNG variant.
@@isfeldt34 We had late '70s and early '80s International 345s and 392s before my district went with a diesel fleet. Most were manual but there were a few Allisons. What a sweet whine those Allisons made!
@@cj6017lot of my old buses via 1997-2002 were Wayne GMC lifeguards and Ward GMCs. Also Thomas S1700 and 1800 internationals with a splash of Caroenter S3800 and Thomas S3600 internationals. Those days will forever be missed
The sound of field trips as a wee youngster in the early 90s, topped off with coming home in the afternoon to watch Darkwing Duck while enjoying the leftover snacks from the trip!
I have an 85' gmc bus that i am building into an rv with the 366cid and the 5 speed, and i love it, great to see others that share the love for the old iron machines. do wish mine had the splitter though. love the videos and always look forward to more.
We had a bus just like this one. Gas burner probably a 366, but with automatic tranny. Loved the sound of the tranny as it went through the gears and the roar of that big block.
From watching your videos I'm guessing your kind of close to me. I am right outside of the Madison, WI area. Keep it up with the videos. If you ever do a meet and greet keep us posted! 👍
We recently purchased an 84 identical bus, it hadn't been cranked in 12 years. I put a new manual fuel pump on it and swapped the holler for eldelbrock 600 added fresh has and drove her out of the weeds. However I couldnt get over 35 mph with out the front end shaking. I did have a brake caliper dragging on the front, it is still an hour from the house going to try to figure out the wobble so I can get it here to the house to start fixing her up. Any ideas on that heavy wobble/shake? I put 70 psi in the old tires they are dry but all holding air

I know a fella in wewoka, there's two of them a 1990, both Chevrolet b series, both with five speed manuals. The one they have running, but the other one, seems to have a problem with its prom.

So funny! I remember that whine all too well. Used to try and imitate it when riding on my "Kettler Kettcar". LOL
That door opening sound brought back many memories.
