    It's the most fun you can have flying. Then lured by performance, you take up sailplanes, maybe considering the financial but likely not the logistical aspects. When the latter becomes more than apparent, you take up powered flight. If you're not choosing this for frequent travel, or your wife doesn't like flying in small aircraft, you know what you'll end up doing. Hangers, fuel, annuals, maintenance, expensive repairs. If you don't fly every day (or week, or month) and do a little math, you'll be stunned at the cost per hour. Some may find driving a UPS truck around the familiar patch worth it, most not at all. Then you'll remember when flying was way more fun. Now of course, just a story. I'm not expressing my experience ;-)

    Thanks for a brilliant vid. I haven't been in my Fun 190 for ages, I feel both refreshed after watching your vid and disappointed in myself for not flying my Fun for so long. I usually hate videos with music, yours is a rippa. That blues is fantastic and a good match for your vid. 10/10

    Sir...i'm only 68 and homebound last eight yrs. due osteoarthritis. Not left my apprtmnt. Need hip replacements but was told...no high impact sports 😢 If I cant hangglide like before and go crosscountry motorcycling, I don't see the trouble of having the op. Just suffer in silence, limping from bed to computer, kitchen and toilet. CZcams has been my life last eight years...travel the world thru it !! 😊
    If you have no problems with joints...no harm trying. Even triking.

I need a SO to finish my license and some gear too prefer new Malibu but it seems you can't even buy it. Learnt with Tony at Newcastle. I'm at Sunshine coast. The clubs are....mmmmm Just getting excuses worse than skydiving. Is there something happening south of Sydney or Victoria? Any safety offices out there?

    How do people with a paralyzing fear of heights become hang gliders? Is it something that can be overcome?

    • @justhangin7186
      @justhangin7186  Před rokem +2

      Yeah I don't like heights in general but it's different when your in the security of the harness and there is no surprises because everything is in clear view , you also have a parachute in the harness which gives you a bit more peace of mind. It's not like a roller coaster where you loose you stomach unless you make it so , as long as you don't suffer from full vertigo you should give it a go , book a tandem flight they usually let you control it for a bit and see if you like it 👍🇦🇺

      Many pilots are afraid of heights in non-flying contexts. I won't stand at the edge of a launch ramp without a wing. I don't like looking down from a 3rd floor balcony. I'm unconfortable close to any edge with a 3 meter drop if there are no rails... But with a wing, I know it flies, so it's fine!
      Fear of heights is actually fear of falling.

      Yeah, I can't climb an open air stair case (like on the outside of a large bulk storage tank) more than 20-30 feet without locking up. I can fly in my hang glider 1000's of feet above the ground.

    • @fly1327
      @fly1327 Před 8 měsíci +2

      ericoschmitt is right on. I can't stand on top of a building looking over the edge. Creeps the shit out of me after hang gliding for years. But hooked into a wing I've proven, SO totally different. It sounds funny, but you don't even notice it unless you want/need to.
