I am having the same problem you are addressing with 300 win mag. Belted mag cases are expensive, for me anyway, and the prospect of getting more reloads out of the cases is very interesting. I had the same problem. I bought a small based die set. And a Lyman case gauge. I full length size. Then check it with my Lyman case gauge. If it doesn’t fit. Then I resize it in the RCBS Small based die. I bought a bunch of used 300 win mag cases. And about ten percent were bulged. Picked up the small based die set used.
Thanks for this video. I am reloading some 7mm Rem Mag cases that have been fired multiple times. I am having some difficulties closing the bolt. I had not had any issues with my newer brass.

Plus it's super hard to run thru the die/press. I am going to try your technique and order that die. What size cartridge where you sizing in this video?

I have 20 rounds in the trash that might have been given a second chance. I just want to know after fixing the bulge are there other signs of case failure around the belt I should look for.
I’m having problems (not ) with the bulge above the belt….. I’m getting a bubble ring around the case neck and at the the shoulder. I’ve reloaded 300H&H successfully for over 30 years. Use a full length sizer. And have tried backing to off to only neck size. Using fire formed brass (once fired from my gun). And still having the problem. I can’t bump the shoulder without creating a bulge around the area where the neck meets the shoulder. And when I back it off far enough to only neck size. The bulge just goes up further on the neck. Got any ideas to remedy this? Any advice is appreciated
I use this die on my 300 H&H brass. It works very well. Btw, what brass are you using? Hornady is the worse quality. Norma, which also makes the brass for Nosler in this caliber, is the best I’ve tried.
If it is just a one-off, why not resize the loaded cartridge? All the collet is doing is squeezing the case wall a tiny bit, a couple of thou at most. It is not touching the neck, the bullet, the primer, etc. Comments? Could redo the rest of them if necessary after firing if they still chamber.
4321rick you probably could. The manufacturer states not to size live ammunition and im not to keen on putting a live round under that much pressure, some of them take a bit of force to go through the die. i would rather just pull the bullet even though it takes a bit more time. better safe than sorry i say
OK, I have this SAME issue... So, what is it about the rifle chamber..??? WHY am I getting this case stretch/buldge just above the belt on my magnum...? Without doing a casting or measurement of the chamber... is there something wrong with my chamber..? I still get case buldge/stretch EVEN when I drop my powder charge..... Bern
Usually the problem is caused by resizing the case as a normal die cant travel the full length of the case a bump will form where the die stops. When did you first notice the problem was it a first reloading?
I have not had any problem with case bulge in .300 H & H. For example, I started with virgin brass in 1993. Resizing was full length with a shoulder bump of 0.002 Loads were 64.0 gr IMR4831 (88% case capacity, ~2860fps) Here is the reloading history on that brass (now retired) 1993--virgin brass, fire-form 1994--resize, fire, anneal & resize 1995--fire, resize, fire, resize 1996-2003 sheep hunting years, no reloading of 300 H & H 2003-fire, anneal & resize, fire, resize 2004--fire, resize, fire, resize, fire resize 2005--anneal & resize, fire, resize retire cases, start with a new lot of norma cases The cases still fit my chamber smoothly. The cases still fit a Wilson case gauge. The case diameter just above to belt is 0.051" which is SAAMI spec. Why no case bulge? moderate loads? ( 64.0 gr IMR4831--88% case capacity, ~2860fps) reszing with slight shoulder bump? gentle 7.5 degree slope of the case shoulder? match-grade custom built rifle? or maybe I've just been lucky?
Hi , my thanks for the advice, well ive bought my first 7mm rem mag and of course will reload for it, ive purchased 40 Remington 160 grain rounds and 290 once fired cases, ive also sent for the die from the states as recommended, question for you, once you have full length resized do you try to chamber? its the first time ive loaded for a belted case never mind a 7mm,any advice would truly be appreciated as loads etc
Kevin Rimmington you can use the die to measure if it will chamber in the rifle just drop it in the top if it falls in all the way to the belt its good to go. Good luck with the reloading..... a word of warning it can become an addiction.
I wonder if it is poor quality brass or camber !! what make of rifle and what Cal please share as this may be a problem with chambering from one batch or brand

Kevin Rimmington you have to use a fair amount of lube on the case. You also have to lube the collet well. Also the case needs to be sized through a regular die first. Hope this helps let us know how you go.
I've had the same problem with a few cases. I'll add that I'm not using imperial wax but a Hornady brand. I've found it helpful to clean the die body between shells. Slows the process but saves brass. Definitely FL size first.
I asked users at .300 H & H forum and no one has experienced case bulge. I have cases that I've reloaded 11 times since the 1990s and they still chamber easily. I wonder if there is no problem in these cases because their shoulders are so shallow: 8.5 degrees in .300 H &H compared to 25 degrees in .300 Win Mag for example.
The shoulder being shallow has nothing to do with it . You still have to bump the shoulder back .002 for proper headspace and over time the case bulges near the belt . The die and brass mfgs even admit this is a known issue. There are literally thousands of comments on CZcams channels attesting to this fact. Seems like you and whatever “forum” you’re on are just the luckiest reloaders ever ! Good on ya mate !
The federal brass isn't any good. By only having a couple of cases not fitting indicates a brass issue (provided all other reloading steps were consistent) . The die you used is basically a body die only , i'd be interested to know if the cases you resized fitted in the chamber without needing trimming.

yeah always use the fl resize die and have it set to bump the shoulder back 1 or 2 thou. it is a great product and saved around 50 cases so far

Just normal signs like potential case head seperation and loose primer pockets but even with pretty hot loads I'm getting around 10 to 12 reloads

I have not had any problem with case bulge in .300 H & H.
For example, I started with virgin brass in 1993.
Resizing was full length with a shoulder bump of 0.002
Loads were 64.0 gr IMR4831 (88% case capacity, ~2860fps)
Here is the reloading history on that brass (now retired)
