I often find that multiplat games are usually more refined on the Dreamcast. The hardware was amazing for its time.
That's only because most of the time they are ported from Dreamcast
Dreamcast looks clearer and brighter. Dcast looks better to me.
I’ve always thought Dreamcast had crisper graphics than PS2. Don’t really know what it is. Less anti-aliasing on Dreamcast maybe?
Just see brighter color...
And this was a sega Naomi title and what was the sega dreamcast?? Lol A LITERL HOME SEGA NAOMI ARCADE CONSOLE 🥰 so of course the dreamcast version would be arcade perfect
@@AfterBurnerTeirusu Dreamcast supports hardware anti analising but it doesn’t use it on this game.
@@areaman5959 Dreamcast had 8mb VRAM while PS2 had only 4mb, letting Dreamcast capable to display more high quality textures, so you can see the textures are crisper compared to muddy texture on PS2. PS2 had a trick or two on it's sleeves too, but generally, most developers prefer more RAM. That, and Dreamcast had hardware which handle anti-aliasing, while PS2 didn't have.
Most of the times, i see Dreamcast has capability to display cleaner, brighter overall image, but has the disadvantages of processing less polygons, less particles, and other effects compared to PS2.
The Dreamcast was a remarkable system for its time. It was the end result of Sega learning from all its post-Mega Drive mistakes. But unfortunately market headwinds were too fierce for it to overcome. Sega had neither the momentum of Sony, nor the deep pockets of Nintendo and Microsoft. On its own terms the Dreamcast even sold fairly well, but Sega lacked the will to remain in the home console market.
The downfall of Sega started with the wonderful Sega Saturn. They made a ton of mistakes, from releasing the system too soon(and not telling suppliers), and not getting enough third party support.
The Dreamcast had the chance to be a contender. Sega was told to invest in the dvd rom format, but chose the on its way out cd rom format. For what it's worth, a lot of historians consider the original Xbox the Dreamcast 2. Let that sink in!
Everyone was waiting on the PS2.
But the DC was great
With less failures in previous systems (namely Sega CD, 32x and Saturn) they would have had more marketing budget and maybe Sega would still be in the console market. The quality of the games for the dreamcast has been quite great,.... it probably would have done better, if they could have been able to stand up against Sony's aggressive ps2 marketing
The dc thumbstick and d pad are trash and the fact that it only had 1 thumbstick and no dvd drive sealed its fate.
I like the stuff of the dashboard sliding from side to side when turning, that’s a cool detail.
Look at the lighting changes on those feathers! Dreamcast changes per the lighting and the PS2 is stagnate! Dreamcast for the win, who doesn't like better and more accurate lighting on their feathers? DC was the best for sure, a gem ahead of its time that carved most of gaming and of course the Xbox.
I noticed this however that could be down to the development decisions of SEGA, not the limitations of the PS2.
The Dreamcast was so ahead of its time it shipped with only one analogue stick.
@@volkte37 which means no call of duty no half life even though they were making half life for Dreamcast and games that need 2 joysticks are unplayable unless the camera moves for you.
Important to remember the PS2 port was developed by Acclaim. It obviously can't quite compete with Sega's own original work. The same thing happened with Crazy Taxi.
I was wondering why these arcade type of games looked better on DC. Made me think we were going to get graphically better looking exclusives for the DC but that's not how it worked out. I mean could DC run God of war 2, Black, or call of duty?
@@JA-ng7yo We will never know, the DC didn't last long enough in the market to make full use of its potential.
Call of Duty came out in 2003, The DC should have been able to host a version of it.
Black came out in 2006, while God of War came out on the PS2 in 2007, think about how much better they were able program the PS2 5-6 years after its launch. Newer techniques, better developer tools.
If the DC would have lasted longer, it too would have seen improvements, maybe not to the degree that the PS2.
The problem with that, is that pretty much all DC versions of games looked better than on the PS2 despite major enhancement and additional development time allocated to the PS2 ports. The narrative that has the Ps2 games looking inferior because developers didn't seem to care needs to go. It is demonstrably false. The Ps2 versions of games had the most time and budget allocation of any consoles. The improvements that the developers try to bring to the Ps2 versions are clear to see. They really did try, only the limitations of the PS2 HW often meant that games still managed to look inferior to their DC versions.
Played Shenmue 2 and MGS2 back to back recently, and it is clear that today, away from all the hype and bias of the era, Shenmue 2 is a way more impressive achievement. MGS2 looks so simplistic in comparison, it's really shocking to think people back in the day had the opposite perception. It shows how culture and hype can shape people's opinion.
It was published by Acclaim in the US, however it was NOT ported by Acclaim. The port was handled in Japan.
Slight minor difference to the background at 2:30.
The Twin Towers can be seen in the Dreamcast version while they've been removed in the PS2 version for very obvious reasons.
😮
Ooo! You should do one for Dreamcast & Gamecube also!
Saludos
There’s no difference in anti analising and the Dreamcast doesn’t have better lighting all it is brighter and that really ruins the nighttime roads just saying I did more reasearch on this video the view distance is the same the resolution is the same in pretty sure. The Dreamcast has better Audio than PS2.
Other than the tornado at 8:08 and close-ups like 10:05, there's not a lot of difference. Whoever ported this deserves a lot of credit - it was thankless task for a minor arcade port that was forgotten almost immediately.
Slight minor difference to the background at 2:30.
The Twin Towers can be seen in the Dreamcast version while they've been removed in the PS2 version for very obvious reasons
Who noticed the world trade centre towers on the Dreamcast version.
So for me I think the PS2 darker Colors look better. As for the game play, sound and that both look good. If I did have to pick one to play since I have to say it I'm a Sega Fan Boy, it would be the Dreamcast.
VCDECIDE FOREVER!!
hmmm would love to see an MDK 2 comparison (DC vs PS2 vs PC). there's also an 'HD' PC & Wii version. (i own them all- DC version ftw!)
very cool
Dreamcast um pouco melhor, principalmente na iluminação.
18 Wheeler wins this one hands down
It's hard to tell with a split screen but if I had to guess I would say the DC version has a better image quality because it outputs 480p and the PS2 version is likely to be 480i.
Boa comparacao😃
Dreamcast looks better than the ps2 Version. What is about the GameCube Version? I have in my collection 18 Wheeler for GameCube is it closer to the Dreamcast Version or to the PS2 Version? Can you make a comparison with the Cube Version too?
The GameCube version is the same as the PS2 one. Acclaim developed both of them. Sega did the Dreamcast version themselves, which is why it looks much better.
if sega DC was released in 2000s instead 1998.
Strange, that the PS2 got missing many lighting effect. Which making many stuff look very dark, and plus it missing fog from opening cutscene
Noticed, that the „two towers“ are removed from the ps2 version at 2:29
The textures in the DC version were much cleaner to me.
The Dreamcast version is much more crisp and a little bit brighter.
Otherwise they are pretty similar.
Both versions are cool! 😎
@@chori321 Yes. Good observation, the storm looks better on Dreamcast.
@@RetroGamingStories time stamp?
Please do with the game cube version too
Até Death Stranding foi citado hehehehe
Haven’t played this since 2002 lol
Of course Dreamcast version is better as original game is on NAOMI arcade board which is what the Dreamcast is based on.
Dreamcast looks sharper and brighter
Sega have a ton of super fun games!
The World Trade centre is missing in the PS2 version
🥴
Twin towers New York post sept 11th dreamcast @ 2:30
Yeah! The PS2 port was Two months after 911! :_(
Where`s the Gamecube version ?
Only sega ,only if gamers had appreciated you more.!!
This was such an experience.!!!!
Imagine if sega had crafted all 50 states.
So the drive that was from ny-fl would have been from ny-nj
It would really simulate crossing the country.
Then there would be something to taking ling hauls and making time
Wasn't the dreamcast released 9.9.99?
Better colors and drawing distance on dreamcast
DreamCast wins!!!
Look better on Dreamcast 😍
Dreamcast wins the graphics fight. A shame too, as they were handicapped with still using CD based disks, while the PS2 moved on to DVD format drives and disks.
Starting with the Sega Saturn, Sega were their own worst enemies. Both the Saturn and Dreamcast were, and quite frankly, still are wonderful systems. Sega kept shooting themselves in the foot, and eventually the head with the copious amount of negative business decisions they made. I just got my second Saturn in the mail a week ago. Phenomenally good system, bad marketing and even worse North America(the Japanese Saturn market is legendary)game support.
Awesome! I also have Two One American and One Japanese! :)
@@dustineffler7658 Yeah man. My first Saturn's optic drive went bad, so I sold it to a good friend who had a extra Saturn drive to put into it. I plan on getting either a white or Victor(V) Japanese one. Burning Rangers, Dragon Force, Guardian Heroes, Dark Savior, Magic Knight Rayearth, ect. The Sega Saturn is only behind the Neo Geo AES for my most favorite system of all time. Kudos, and cheers to you for being a Saturn fan!
As always the Dreamcast gives a clean image but lacks textures and effects that´s the major weakness in comparison to the other 128 bits consoles
Not true. You don't know the Dreamcast well.
10:30 you can see that the original Sega Dreamcast version has better graphics and lighting. Just look at the pixels which makeup the road on both sides and compare. I bet the PS2 could have been pushed a little harder, but perhaps there's a reason they left it like that. Sega really waited too long to release the Dreamcast which was its downfall. The PS2 got a lot of marketing hype and those were different times... How unfortunate that people weren't as loyal to a superior console.
@Lucas PS2 is genuinely inferior HW when it comes to graphics.
Dreamcast. All day long.
Some with Crazy Taxi. PS2 is darker.
everything on the ps2 is so dark. Like every game is dark. Why is that?
Dreamcast is SOUL
Now loading...
Both look nice. But the dreamcast version surprisingly looks alot better.
DC for me
Can ps2 fanboys explain me since when presumably less capable hardware consistenly output twice as many pixels and texture quality as their beloved ps2 across hundreds of games ?
I just see DC brighter...
Dreamcast wins
Dreamcast vence
For me it's better Dreamcast than Playstation 2.
both are good, but the PS2 version is darker and looks a little worse. Bravo Sega Dreamcast!
SEGA DREAMCAST WON 🏆
PlayStation 2 parece ter os gráficos mais escuros
The Dreamcast has more detail, and is brighter. The PS 2 is too dark, missing details, and has some draw in.
Sega best
PS2 was nothing but blur and muddy colors.
Really dont get Sega Dreamcast didnt made it , out bedore PS2 and better graphic , awesome games ...

SEGA: How can we beat SONY? Oh I know, lets make one of our games for the PS2 but with darker graphics...
Also SEGA: Never makes another console again.
Seems to be a bit more colour in the PS2 version, however, they seem identical to me.
The ps2 did have alot more colours than the dreamcast
No contest. Dreamcast wins it. PS2 looks muddy in comparison.
Dreamcast again
At 15:35, projectors are missing on PS2.
I don't even understand why the PS2 was so overhyped 🤦🏾♂️
Yea, tell me about it... 🤦♂

2:06 wheels look more rounder on the PS2, it also has better draw distance, 6:40 also better mip mapping, look at the fence
Most PS2 ports from the Dreamcast were inferior. GameCube ports were better
PlayStation always tended to aim for the highest pixel count regardless of the image quality. You can really see it with ps1 and ps2 graphics.
Ps2 gana
Very Good♡
Basicamente:
I love Dreamcast and I always though Dreamcast version was the best, but now checking face to face I thing is to bright too like liquid metal, PS2 has better contrast and textures look sharper, still great game on both platforms
