    Great tutorial. I’ve been using automation lanes in Studio One to execute program changed to various MIDI devices connected to my system for a while but this gives me a new understanding of how to program and add CC values. I also use the FCB 1010 foot controller and feel like this video gives me a better understanding of how to set up that confusing beast of a pedal as well now. Thanks!

    I only recently discovered your channel, and after watching just a few videos, I subscribed. You're producing excellent quality, informative, and useful videos!
    I recently purchased an HX Stomp. My plans are to use it as the source for most of my tones, and to use my old Boss GT-6 as my floor Controller with it via MIDI. I'm not sure if it will actually work and be as useful as I imagine. I still have to do a thorough read of the HX manual so I can get the tones I want, and plan accordingly.
    I have only limited MIDI experience, but I'm not in the dark. One thing that has got me stumped is how to set up my GT-6 as just a Controller. I think that when I press a particular foot switch on my GT-6 to send a MIDI message to my HX Stomp, its also going to activate whatever the pedal does on the GT-6 as well. For instance, if I use the Bank up and down buttons on the GT-6 to change the HX Stomp Bank via MIDI, its also going to change the Bank on the GT-6.
    My current idea for a solution is to create a Bank on the GT-6 specifically dedicated to sending and receiving MIDI messages to/from the HX Stomp. Then to program the HX Stomp to send a message back to the GT-6 to go back to its "MIDI Bank" after it received the specific message from the GT-6. I don't want to do all kinds of pedal dancing.
    I think that should work, but I don't know if there is better/more elegant way to program what I want to have done. Do you have any suggestions?
    I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you for subscribing, and I'm glad you've found the videos helpful. I'm not familiar with the GT-6, but you are correct, some of these devices can be a little tricky to program because if you decided to send a program change from bank up, like you mentioned, it also sends that signal IN the GT-6, so it's complicated. If you are not able to get it to work the way you want, I would suggest getting something that's specifically meant for a MIDI foot controller like the Behringer FCB or something like that. Or an iPAD app might work as well. A trick you could also try is to set all of your patches to be on the same preset number. So for example, on your GT6, preset 1 is song 1. The same applies to your HX Stomp. So when you send PC 1, all of your gear that goes to PC 1 is setup for "song 1". The PC 2 will be for song 2, etc. Hope it helps! Enjoy the MIDI headache in your future :)

      @@ScottUhlMusic Thanks Scott for your quick reply! I'll keep your advice in mind. I just replied to a Line 6 Survey, and thought you and other users might be interested in what I had to say about my initial experience with the HX Stomp. I know it's not about MIDI, so I'll remove it you if you want. Just reply to this so I know if you want me to delete it - no problems. Thanks
      "I ran into some unusual problems after updating to Ver. 3. The Presets were listed, but their actual "Names" were missing. The tones from the Output were thin, like a toy, my guitar sounded like it had Stratitus! I was seriously thinking of returning the unit for a refund, then I got your email to update the unit to Ver. 3.1. That solved most of the tone problems. To fix the Preset "Names" I found some info online that said to "Hold down the left and middle button while powering on the Unit." That fixed the Preset "Names" and some tone problems. I still have other problems with the following Presets: 23B and C, 25A, B, C, and 26 A, B, and C. "IF" those patches load and produce audio, they are extremely distorted; if they don't load, it is because the Unit has run out of DSP power or there is something wrong with the "Looper Block." To get those Presets to load, I had to disable the Looper Block. I doubt that Line 6 would have Default Presets that don't work unless the user disables some of the Blocks! There were also a bunch of presets that were insanely louder than other Presets by as much as 28 decibels! I had to manually change the Output on many Presets. I have saved a few "Favorites" but sometimes get this message when trying to load them: "Failed to load Favorites (An invalid parameter was specified. [Code - 4])." That's a lot of problems for a User to have to solve straight out of the box. I'm pretty experienced with computers, and also I have a Boss GT-6, etc., but I was expected a better first experience with the HX Stomp."

    Hi Scott, great video! I guess we could in effect have more than the 3 snapshots on the stomp by sending several CCs at once. Do you by chance have any idea of how many messages the HX Stomp can take before it catches fire or something? ;)

    • @ScottUhlMusic

      I do not believe you can have more than 3 snapshots for the HX Stomp as of today. Hopefully someday they would extend the snapshot control to 5 or even unlimited depending on the pedal. As for CC messages, it should be able to take as many as you send it! I send multiple messages to multiple devices and haven't run into problems. But.... it's not my fault if it catches on fire :)

      @@ScottUhlMusic oK GOOD to know. I;ll buy a tablet. then. Probably Android. Any special specs the tablet should have for midi control and any other musical functions? I'm a songwriter and I perform the songs myself. I use synths and drum machines and my guitar. Up until now I use midi only for synchronization. But you have opened for me a window of other possibilities: A) To either automate or use midi switches (probably the later). B) Expand midi control to turn devises off and on C) Use a stereo multi effect like the HX Stomp OR the PLETHORA as a multi expression or midi controlled virtual pedal board that IMHO integrates the virtual pedals into ONE composite effect for either momentary ( aka "one shot") type space swooshes, dramatic panning movements, brooooings, etc. as a natural evolution of the whammy pedal OR less momentary effects that evolve and move as a natural evolution of the whawha pedal, for example two or more types of completely different distortions that morph into each other, modulation effects that morph, or a clean signal that morphs in and out of Ring modulation or my favorite: The sound made by subtle movements of the delay parameter etc. ..there is a allot of potential in these devises that I don't think people have realized yet... would you agree? and finally D) Since my rig ends up in a small mixer...It would be nice to have a midi controllable mixer for DUB style manipulations and changes in the stereo mix as the song moves from part to part.

But in Roland the user presets have the same patch numbers of the factory Studio Sets. So I thought the solution would be to previoulsy program a bank or folder to select from . But no. Thanx bro I just discovered your channel and I reccon its really helpful.. I'll recomand it to some friends of mine which are hx stomp users..
    I do have a question for you.. I'll try to make understandable my confused ideas.. 😬
    Since 3.0 firmware was released, command center allows user to send out 6 midi instances/messages for each snapshot. So in my send/return I have a midi overdrive and a midi reverb that I set up using those midi instances..
    I'm wondering about getting a midi external controller (like jet micro).
    My question: if I select snapshot 1 from an external controller (not from hx button) is there any chance/set up with wich my related midi messages will go out as well for my midi pedals?? Or midi sending works only if I select a snapshot from hx stomp buttons?

    I am running a computerless setup and I would be triggering the looper manually, so wouldn't that mean the loop would desync because of my foot not being millisecond perfect? Hey Scott. Great video. Thanks for this. One thing I've noticed is that when I've set a command to turn on a footswitch in Logic, when I stop the playhead, the footswitch turns off. So, now it's like as if when you press 'play' in Logic, it acts as an on off switch. Is there a way to ensure that it only turns on when you need it to even when you've stopped the playhead in Logic? I checked out the Helix midi video and I noticed that your Helix had the same situation. Whenever you click stop, the footswitch goes either on or off and you'd have to manually press the footswitch again for the video to show that when the playhead passes through the 'event', it turns on. I hope you get what I'm saying. I've been trying to figure out what it is because when we play tracks off of Logic, we'd sometimes have to stop so I'm afraid that the HX Stomp will turn on and off at the wrong places.

I tried connecting my Hx stomp (midi out/thru) to his headrush core pedal (midi in) using the 5 pin midi cable. However it stage Traxx will NOT read his headrush pedal board. We have set his global settings correctly, used a different midi channel to differentiate his pedal from mine, and it won’t learn any commands. If you need to use the HX Stomp to SEND midi info (not receive), you should watch this video:

    Is there a way to program it so that it toggles up and down the parameters incrementally? So I have a poly capo block and I want to toggle up and down the interval parameter, is there a way to do that with midi?

    • @ScottUhlMusic
      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 měsíci

      I’ve never tried that but I believe you could. MIDI learn the parameter for the pitch of the poly capo and then the value of that CC you assign should control the pitch in incremental values

    Vorrei chiederti: come potrei rendere la mia pedalboard completamente gestibile via midi da Logic considerando che entrambe i dispositivi (GSC4 ed HX Stomp) possiedono prese Midi IN e Midi Out e sono già collegate tra loro (GSC4 trasmette ad HX Stomp)? Potrebbe essere possibile utilizzare un'interfaccia USB-Midi Out collegata dal MAC alla presa Midi in della GSC4? In pratica mi piacerebbe usare la pedalboard sia in live, sia in studio tramite logic. Grazie infinite.

      You can always daisy chain midi. So go from a controller into your first midi device, then out/thru of that midi device into the in of the next midi device and so on :) that’s how I do it. I also use a wireless one here: czcams.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/video.html

    I have midi loopback and it works for PC from instant commands in command center but when I send Command = "MIDI CC", MIDI Ch = "Base", CC# = 59, Value = 0 I get no change from my pedal controlling exp2 to exp1
    exp2 is volume and it just stays there even after sending the instant command. Any ideas please how to get it to work ?
    I am not using a footswitch, just a snapshot that sends the instant command when chosen.
    Is this function supported in the Stomp XL ?
    Also don't work here........
    CC69 command for snapshot selection
    A CC68{value} command, sent with any value between 0 - 127, will toggle the Helix
    tuner on/off

      @ScottUhlMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      Hmm, I don’t know. I changed the parameters before but not the switch from exp 1 to exp 2. There should be individual controls over each of the expression setups. Yes, you can daisy chain midi by going MIDI IN to the first modeler and then MIDI OUT of the first modeler to MIDI IN on the 2nd modeler. Or I also recommend the WIDI Master which is a wireless option which I did a video for here: czcams.com/video/bR1zKrNflCY/video.html
