I was waiting for a half hitch or 2, nice to see a different method. My tag pullers are very similar, I use garden hose on an aluminium rod works a treat, I'm gunna make a couple more out of dowel and garden hose.
This is how i have been tying this knot for the last 3 years by far best and easiest way to tie it in the field or on a rocking boat. I stop a 14 weaves and have tremendous confidence in the strength of the knot. One tip i can give you is make your leader tag a little longer and hold both the main leader and the tag leader in your hands loosely while tightening the rizutto. This helps the rizutto tighten parallel with the fg and you don't get that little kink in the end. Awesome vid keep it up.
The easiest method I've seen for this knot. Thank you. I just use a double uni and have never had an issue with it, so no reason to change now since I can do that even quicker and never lost a fish due to a broken knot.
i've actually had the fg come lose on my but i think its just due to me not having enough practice with it. my go to has been uni-uni for ever but nothing beats an fg through the guides.
Very interesting, as compared to the ending off with 4 x half hitches, as I've always tied it, with no problems. I'm going to give this a shot though, see how it performs over time. Thanks for video 👍.
One of the more simpler methods I have seen. I really like the simplicity of the way you twist and wrap the main part of the knot. Great tutorial mate!
Best video yet that I've seen... And that finish wrap is one that I've used to final wrap bow strings at the end of serving wraps. Fg knots are a bit simpler than making bow strings and they should be... Fishing is suppose to be fun!
Wow. That was amazing. I watched like 30 FG knot videos but this is by far the best method without an electric machine or whatever needed. Just knowledge and practice. Love it. Thanks a lot ! Tomorrow is practice day for this for myself 😬😂
I use to do the half hitches, but after tying 100s like this and catching many good fish, I hace never had one with just the Rizutto finish come undone even after weeks of casting 👍
U just made a man w neuropathy have some hope for tying this knot. Granted my 12lb leader is my weak point even w an alberto knot, doesn't hurt to learn more. Awesome stuff!
very cool way to get those FG. I personally singe the FG with a rizzuto as well, but I like how fast you are doing those FG wraps, starting to pratice right now!
This method with the rizzuto finish is the least smooth and streamlined going through the guides becaause the end of the leader is left exposed creating a big bump. Other methods use hitches tied in the braid adjacent to the end of the leader to create a smoother transition.
@@araldf Sorry I watched so many different vids I cant remember which ones. I'd always recommend watching multiple instructional vids with knots because of how much interpretation and variation there is.
@@markrigg6623 I strongly disagree (at least for not that thick lines), for me the rizzuto finish is the smoothest for my microguides (0.4 tip), true I tie 12-15lb braid to 12-14lb flurocarbon leader, probably your experience with with way thicker lines.
Certainly a different twist (pun intended) on this best knot ever. I was waiting for you to throw a few extra 1/2 hitches using the braid after you cut the flouro just to hide the sharp tag end but hey no biggie. Great job brother
Cheers mate. Never found the need. I have fished this knot extensively with Yellowtail to 100lb, GT to over 100lb, tuna to 200lb and everything else you can imagine with no failures. The only other addition is you could hit the leader end with a lighter or Bouz lighter to bulb it 👌🎣🐟
Hey thanks called the local home builder big box stores. They all have 1/2 in or 3/4 in heatshrink tube for sale. They both come in a 2 pk (about 4 inches long) for like $ 3.00. Score. Of course 1/2 and 3/4 in dowel for sale as well at same store. I know what Im doin tomorrow. Thx for the tip.
Wow this is the fastest I have ever seen this knot tied. I am going to have to give it a try. Thanks man! I’ll probably go with the half hitch knot instead, but I will try yours first. Cheers 🍻
Having some problems with this knot. Mostly the hitches for some reason but I enjoy your method a lot. Can’t wait to give it a shot after work. Keep it up.
Cheers mate. You give it a go, practice lots. If you want to try the method with the hitches a lot of people will go 6 alternating over the braid and leader, then trim the leader, then another 6 alternating just on the braid and then the rizutto finish I do here. I just find it's all not really needed, this method here has never given me any grief 👌
If you put one half hitch on the knot after all the criss cross wraps and tighten the wraps first then put your rizuto finish on the rizuto will fit a lot more snug to the main knot I do like the way you make your wraps.. nice job..
Wow this is a great looking method. Coming from bass fishing in the US your line diameter is enormous so I wonder how well this will transfer to tying with 8-20lb flouro
12lb fluoro is very thin, you'd probably be better off with a different knot such as a double uni. The FG is for joining thinner braid to much, MUCH heavier mono (like 40lb braid to 80lb mono).
Thank you so much for this clear video instruction on how to tie this useful knot, one that I have been struggling with. I especially appreciate the Rizutto finish. However, I have one question - wouldn't it be better to tighten the main knot first, and then the Rizutto? It appears to me that you are trying to tighten the main knot through the previously tightened Rizutto...
@@Deanobravio I prefer to do a single half hitch once I finish my wraps, then lock in the FG knot as it stretches the knot out. Once the knot has been stretched I finish it off with either more half hitches or rizutto.
@@turbostyler for sure, plenty of people do multiple half hitches. I encourage everybody to find a way that suits them and use that. This method negates the need for all of the half hitches
If you back off the pressure, you might find the technique still successful on light line. I still use this technique for pe0.6 and 10lb leader. Anything less than that i cant be bothered tying FG anyway 🤣👍
Fruk me dead I’ve watched 6hundred million channels on how to tie this knot and only ended up frustrated. I watched this once and it all makes sense and finally got it to work thanks 😊
Awesome mate, so glad. It's essentially why I filmed these videos, I found the same with a lot of knot videos. I just wanted them to be easy to understand and follow 👍
I am a bass fisherman. I tried this in 20lb braid to 8lb mono. 2 months later I’m still trying to use this technique but impossible. Must be done in wider gauge lines only?
Hey mate. Its a bit weird to be tying braid that is 3 x heavier than the leader. But to give you some idea i often tie this FG knot in 6lb braid and 10lb mono. So shouldnt be too much issue, back the tension off a bit maybe
a good one.. nice version of the FG.. I still finish mine with a couple of half-hitches and a double half-hitch rather than complicate it even more with what you did that to me makes it 'bulky' not smooth.. just my personal preference
Yeh thats fair. What most people do is 6 half hitches over the leader and braid, trim the leader, then 6 half hitches over the braid only, and then finish with a Rizutto finish as I do. This method simplifies all of that to just the Rizutto finish. I encourage people to tie it the way that works for them 👍 tight lines 🎣🐟
FINALLY!!!! Finally I have found a very clear, in focus, up close video showing how to do the twists! Thank you so much.

Best FG tutorial I've found so far! Cheers mate. 👍
I have to say this is by far the easiest method to remember I've seen and looks easier to tie! Thanks man!
Probably the most instructional video on this knot. Made my first FG knot, thanks to you kind sir. Now, to try it out.
Glad you found it easy. Ive had a few people now say the same, thats why i wanted to share the way i tie it. Tight lines! 🎣🐟
This is the best FG knot I have seen.

I know I’m late to the party here, but that is an exceptional demo for the FG. I know what I’m doing this winter.

By far best fg knot method on CZcams... I watched like 30 videos before I found this one!!!
I normally use the under and over version where you don't need tight lines, but this looks pretty good. Might give it a go.

Awesome Explanation and Method for tying this Leader Knot !! Thanks, Richard
