- Welcome back, in todays video we trek to the oceans to catch fish, find artifacts and most importantly collect achievements. Now Dredge was a game that I thought i was going to enjoy a lot, but do I? Well that's exactly what we're going to find out as this game is getting overwhelmingly positive reviews, so let's put that to the test.

I really like how clever the reveal of the Collector is. They're a reflection, which makes the first time they appear to you way cooler bc you realize they weren't outside your boat looking in through the window, they were your own reflection in the window.
Oh!! I thought the Collector was stood in a door way with a sun shaft initially, and then it turned out to be a mirror!! I didn't realize it was a window. :') I must've missed that line of text!
@@knyune it makes even more sense realizing that when you choose to take the book from the collector, you punch a mirror, shattering him into pieces further solidifying the fact that he isn’t real but a part of you

The plot twist in this game is so insanely well done if you pay close attention to the story. When it hit me I sat there for a good minute in awe.

@@marishexe5500 Some time ago, a Fisherman (you) and his wife, Julie are traversing the seas making a living. Eventually they dredge up a coffin which, when opened, released (in part) an eldritch being. It also took the minds of those in the crew that saw it's contents. Flash forward some time, your mind shattered, you come to Greater Marrow to find work as a fisherman (completely unaware that the world is now corrupted and that your wife has thrown herself into the sea waiting for you).
As you play the game, you are left two choices after speaking with The Old Mayor (perhaps an original crewmate?) and the Lighthouse Keeper: Throw it back (the eldritch book containing the 'knowledge of/the entity') or listen to The Collector (the entity manifest in your mind) and perform a ritual to unleash Cthulhu or whatever this eldritch thing is.
There are some finer details in the dialogue and messages in bottles, but that's the SparkNotes.
The collector plot twist was my favorite.

A helpful tip for new players, the foghorn scares off the crows if you keeping honking it.
Also if the "Thing" crawls onto your boat and infects your fish you can throw that one out to save the rest. You only get the same value as if it was Rotten anyways which is like nothing. So best just chuck it and get something else.
@@NEEDbaconunless you need the fish for a shrine or a hooded figure or anything that requires a fish regardless of it's conditions, because infected fish last forever so you won't have to worry about them rotting before you can deliver them
I think risk of rain 2 would be a good game to pick as it’s quite fun and the achievements actually give you in game unlocks. (:

@@MRJazzygameplay27 not necessarily. Some of them can come quite fast. Although I’m on ps4, so I don’t need every character unlock as separate achievements.
Oof, every skill and skin for every character? Log unlocks etc.? My God, it'd take days.
Plus the characters are hot so, y'know, there's that. Not sure it'll help the achievement grind.. Actually, maybe it will.

Just saying, splicing a game review in the format of a achievement hunting is kind of genius and makes these videos really enjoyable. It's one part game review essay, one part quirky challenge, one part lets play. And I *dig it*, especially the final little review slide at the end. Keep it up!
I think that instead of Cthulhu, it might be either his daughter Cthylla or his wife; or even Mother Hydra, as there are a lot of references to hydras and "she" when the warnings are given.
Or it could be a completely different monster. As far as I know there are no direct references to Lovecraft's universe, so Cthulhu might not even exist in the setting
@@DarkinBladeGaming Considering it's mere presence is causing fish to mutate and there's some magic shenanigan's going on. It might not be blatant but the connection is certainly there. At the very least it's Great Value H.P. Lovecraft.
But yeah, given it's described with female pronouns and is associated with red (though missing a few eyes) is probably meant to be Cthylla, and not her daddy.

So I've played this myself and 2 things to add about things, the bait is easily used to gather mixed fush from the area your in into a spot, the amount varies. It can help in case you depleted all of the other spots, or just want quick fish, I completed devil in a whooping 2 days using bait. With research parts you can also find them when dredging for meterials, otherwise the traveler is the only consistant option.
If you’re skilled enough, the Devil’s spine is great for some early game items. I heavily suggest you either go there immediately after getting a decent engine or after the Gale cliffs.

You can also dredge any dredge spots for a small chance to get research parts, took a while but when i plat’ed dredge took around 2 hours circling the map hitting the merchant and dredge the spits to do the research
You should make a 10/10 playlist once you come across more awesome games.

bait is extremely useful later in the game for finding rarer and more difficult to get fish

I think you missed a part on the hooded merchant where he wasn't even eating the fish, he was ripping out their hearts and eating those!
Risk or rain 2 is quite good but I’d recommend sleeper citizen as it is a quick game to get through (about 8 hours) but has many different routs to take and achievements for seeing them all

You actually are able to keep the dog and get the achievement by backing out of giving the dog away at the last second.
One thing I always like about your videos i that you often play kinda "obscure" games that I wouldn't even notice normally. This whole fishing thing normally wouldn't pique my interest at all, but the spooky twist made it a lot more interesting and while I probably won't but and play many of the game you've done in the last few weeks I've at least bought the game Bloodwash to play it myself.

Supraland would be a good game to do, it’s a really fun game and getting all achievements is really enjoyable , and you can do it without using a guide too

The science in me is mad that the crab achievement included xiphosurans but the lazy person in me is glad you didn’t have to search for actual crabs
Dredge is brilliant - my 2023 GOTY so far for sure. Not the longest game ever, but I'm sure I'll revisit it at some point.

1:30 yeah when i start playing this game mayor said we are the only angler but somehow there is a fog horn sound playing back at you. and i go looking for the source. oh boy.
i forgot about atrophy and got aberration attractor without using it more than 5 times. i feel so dumb rn. but this game is amazing i wish i could play it again for the first time
bait is real handy for grinding out the enceclopdia or getting the fish not specific to a isle

12:47 because sometimes you just overfish and can't find what you're looking for anymore. also baited fish seemingly have higher chance as trophy or aberration. It also attracts fish from any time of day as long as you're in the right place. cause I had both sunfish and moonfish rock up together in one bait once.
14:30 not really. the fish aren't fresh. they get murdered. and not sure if you're proccing your "chance to not deplete" book bonuses either. It does have a fairly high if not close to gauranteed chance of aberration though. I had to use it to get a lot of the aberrations to come out in a reasonable amount of time.

I got the game on Xbox 2 days ago, and after maybe 16 hours, I 100%d it. I was playing pretty casual and just completionist. Very fun, can’t wait for the dlc next month

i do wonder why so many people go towards devils spine as soon as the larger area is open when the collector tells you the best bet is the other section. oh well i loved this game one of the few i ever played for then 5 hours in a single day. good luck on future grinds.

Kinda both, I automate it and then go through it all tweaking and fixing the mess ups, its programmed for an american accent so my yorkshire british one causes it to melt. However some spelling mistakes always slip through the net

My only regret with this game was 100%ing it too soon, rather than taking my time with it.

I do wonder when dredge is set because in one of the notes it says 1928 (I'm pretty sure) so maybe the entity has been keeping the fisherman from aging?
Or dredge simply isn't set in the 21st century, which makes sense because there's no internet or 21st century technology in general
Its worth mentioning, there are rumors of eating abberated fish making some immortal.
I do have one complaint about the game, which is that I felt like devils spine and twisted strand felt a little too far from the rest of the game for my liking, aesthetically speaking, but I would totally still give it a 10, as that more or less comes down to your preferences for games. Overall it was absolutely amazing.

I just finished my game 100%, was a great time, only minor complaint was research parts. I feel like we needed a few more given from quests as I was still quite a bit short at the end of the story. Note that I had a 100% upgraded boat and funds to spare so a lack of dredging wasn't an issue. I ended up "farming" the merchant for the rest of the parts but felt a bit lack luster that it was the best way to get those parts

I definitely think a quick but fun achievement grind would be the binding of isaac with it's current dlc, there is only a few achievements but its pretty fun.
I know this is sarcastic but few is a big understatement haha
