    THE 15 ANNOYING CRUISE BEHAVIORS
We love to cruise, and for the most part, we like our fellow cruisers. But sometimes, there are some rude or disrespectful people on a cruise ship. These annoying people on a cruise seem to go out of their way to try and disrupt everyone else's sailing. So, we made this video to help ensure you are not one of these characters. You need to avoid these 15 annoying cruiser behaviors on your next trip.
One of the biggest offenses is hogging pool deck chairs. These cruisers selfishly reserve deck chairs for hours while off using other parts of the ship. Then, there are others who do not wait for the elevator doors to open and others to exit before rushing in.
While this cruise behavior is banned on a cruise ship, many individuals still do it. That prohibited cruise behavior is trying to sneak items onboard the ship. The cruise line has a list of things you should never take on a cruise, this includes everything from the obvious contraband to alcohol to irons and steamers.
Other annoying cruise behaviors include constantly complaining and those cheapskates who try to remove the suggested gratuities from their account. Another behavior that could even lead to getting kicked off the cruise ship is getting drunk and belligerent with staff or other passengers.
Also, please wash your hands, especially prior to eating. Further, don't be the person who grabs items from the buffet with your bare hands. That is just gross! Likewise, don't think you are better than everyone else when you see a queue. Wait your turn just like the rest of us.

One behavior really rubbed me the wrong way. A lady and, as it turned out, her husband, reserved a total of 4 extra seats in the front row of the theatre for their friends/family, so I was unable to get my desired seat though I was quite early. What made it worse? None of them showed up, even 40 minutes later as the show began. Infuriating!

This has to do with the shows in the theater. We usually get there 30 minutes before show time and bring a book. Since my wife has a problem with steps, we seat ourselves on the aisle seats near the top. Many times late comers ask if we can move over so they can take our seats. A loud NO is how I handle it. Also people arriving AFTER the show has begun that try to get to seats stepping on your toes. And idiots using their phones with the bright screens after the show has started. The cruise line should close the doors a minute after the show starts. If you are late, no entry. Many think that since they paid for their cruise, they can arrive late, step on people and be pompous asses. Don’t get me started with seat savers!

Ten years ago, on our first cruise in Hawaii we had a party of 8 Chinese passengers. There were four couples and they were the rudest people I have ever met.
Incident one was at our first port stop. My husband and I were near the front of a line waiting to get on our tour bus. There was a long line behind us and just as the bus pulled up and the driver and tour guide walked out, these people appeared. The leader (A huge intimidating man) waved the tickets in the guide's nose saying "This is the bus for the Best of Maui?"
The guide said it was but that all these people had been waiting first and they would have to get in line. The man then pretended not to understand English which annoyed many of the passengers who began pointing to the end of the line and saying "Back there." The party tried to stand their ground but the driver stood between them and the tour guide while the latter took our tickets. This made the leader very angry and aggressive so luckily the driver was a large Hawaiian man who could deal with him.
Throughout that whole day these people kept pushing their way through groups to get to the front of any line earning the ire of just about every passenger.
Incident two was a few evenings later in the theatre. My husband and I had arrived early and settled down in the seats we wanted when to our horror the leader of the Chinese group and one of his male cohorts arrived carrying bags and various items which they proceeded to place on seats in the row in front of us. Of course they had six seats reserved for the rest of their party and they sat in the middle. As the room filled various people came over and were told by the men that the seats were taken. Finally someone complained to a crew member who came over and was told, "They are at the toilet. Be here soon."
The crew member left but returned later to tell them it was almost time for the show and that she could not allow them to save seats. She said they could save two but not any more.
The big man stood up as if to intimidate this young crew member but she told him she was going to get her manager and that the seats could not be saved.
The manager came and put other people in the seats. The man was very angry but the manager was firm.
Soon two women, obviously the wives, arrived and took their seats and there was a rapid conversation in Chinese. The show began and then the other four people arrived to find no saved seats.
More loud conversations in Chinese. Staff members came over and shushed them, also leading away the newly arrived four to try and find some seats.
Thank goodness I did not see them again.

On the 3rd night we were all separated to tables of 2 all over the dining room...in areas that normally had no table. We were all upset..we wantedtostay together....waitstaff didn't want us either. Well stated!👏👏 I have 3 annoying and entitled situations from my cruising days. How about those people playing cards at the most busiest time of a meal in the buffet? There’s 6 people playing cards and they take up a total of 10 spaces. People, there’s a place called “CARD ROOM.” Go there instead of taking up valuable seats at the buffet. Secondly, unsupervised teens. Yes, they’re reeking havoc all over the ship and …where’s the parents? Cruise staff and passengers are NOT your babysitters! And the last one….wasting food at the buffet. Yes! Two teenagers each picked up a burger and load up their burgers and a huge plate of fries just to take 2 bites of their burger and left. Spoiled Rich entitled brats!

First, let me say thank you very much for doing this video.
I chose to cruise on holland america because It's geared more to senior citizens.
I have to agree with every aspect of this vido, you spoke my thoughts and my feelings, thank you.
For me, the first biggest problem is people at the ledo market.
We try to keep a little space between each person as we stand in line and wait patiently.
But as you said, someone will always try to step in. Like you're not even there. What makes this worse is the staff will just serve them.
Second problem, People need to understand on a ship that you've always passed on the left.
And the ship lines are gonna find themselves in trouble if they ever have on crisis because people will not know how to conduct themselves in an orderly fashion.
You will have pandemonium and mayhe, and people will die.
Third thing, your comments regarding elevators were spot on.
I can not tell you the number of times i've tried to step off and elevator only to have somebody walk right into me.

In these situations the posted rules should be enforced by staff so that nobody has to spoil their vacation by attempting to enforce rules. Another thing that really ticks me off is you pay for the thermal spa for peace and tranquility and then some people don't know it is quiet time for everybody and if they want to socialize it is best to do that around the bar or lounges. I hear people talking about people eating in buffet line. I’ve been known to drop a small drop of salad dressing onto a cucumber slice and eat it to see if I like the dressing. Is that rude? (This is a sincere question, not a challenge. It just never occurred to me that it would bother anyone.)

Something I was reading about was the increased use of scooters and how those driving them are sometimes accidentally injuring others walking, causing bruises, trips, and even running over others' feet.
I get it, the scooters are faster than walkers and it can be hard to decelerate or even maintain a slow scooter rate, plus walkers in front might not be aware of a fast scooter behind them.
Somebody needs to create some rules for scooters and walkers to peacefully share the decks!

We found a simple solution for a family member. She wanted us to rent a scooter for her on a cruise, so we let her use the scooters at the supermarket a few times. She would be too busy enjoying zipping along and looking around to pay attention, frequently bumping into racks and shoppers, even pinning me to a refrigerated case once. When our next cruise rolled around and she said, “scooter”, we said, “NO!” and would not back down. It probably saved a lot of bruised legs and mashed toes. 😊

Don't call us 'cheapskates' old chap. I assume you're from the states where tipping is starting to get a bit ridiculous. I was in NYC last week and the crackhead who mugged me hung about for a bit expecting a tip. Tipping in the UK tends to be based upon exceptional service, not expected but appreciated. Please don't try to tip in Japan where it is seen as very rude. I'm starting to get a bit cheesed off with the cruise lines (as you might say in the US) 'nickel and diming' us at every opportunity. I always opt out of the automatic gratuities and tend to do it the 'old-fashioned' way i.e tip the people who I have interacted with on the ship who deserve a little extra. It certainly is not incumbent upon me to subsidise the crew's wages because the lines pay them crap wages. Cruises are expensive enough these days, especially with all the major lines desperately trying to make up the losses incurred during the pandemic. Not their fault obviously , but they have shareholders to keep happy. Cheers and happy cruising from a rather chilly Otford, Kent, UK.

try to avoid people. Most times I'm successful. Don't like to sit outside on deck chairs. Most people don't have manners. There are many sites that have packing advice. I've met some of those people. A few times ship shore excursions have come back late. I do the same on gratuities. I won't remove the tips, but, they may not get anything additional. No one washes their hands on a cruise ship more than me. Hate the seat savers. No more than two alcoholic drinks for me and usually at a meal. Give an ovation at the craps table after a shooter has a good roll. No, there is no such thing as a perfect person.

Probably get lynched for this one. The type of behaviour that sets my teeth on edge are those who cannot hold a quiet conversation but insist that those around them can hear it as well. This could be whilst sitting in a restaurant or bar and a person in the next table insists on sharing what they are saying with everyone around them. Although not exclusive it seems to often happen with groups of Americans. Can happen in my own country too but mainly when on the phone. In Britain it is considered to be rude but something we grin and bear as no one will confront the offender. On a cruise this happening whilst I am trying to getting some relaxation would be annoying.

  • @kjFL1
    @kjFL1 Před 10 měsíci +5

Most of your information is good, but I don’t understand why someone should automatically tip more than the prepaid gratuities. The purpose of the prepaid is to reward exceptional service. But that means we are tipping before service is rendered not knowing if the service is exceptional. I know this is a touchy subject. I always do the prepaid just for convenience, but I will not tip above and beyond the already paid tips unless the service really is outstanding. Tipping more than the prepaid should not be expected nor encouraged. It’s a personal choice.

I agree that washing with soap and water is superior, but I am horrified at seeing how many people don't wash after going to the bathroom. Having hand sanitizer available might at least get those idiots to 'decontaminate' somewhat before they spread their germs everywhere. Per the CDC: If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, and wash with soap and water as soon as you can.
