Our CBs actually man mark the attacking line but to ask Maguire/Evans/Lindelof and maybe even Varane to stay tight to their man AND play a high line at the same time is very risky. It means that the opposition just have to create opportunities to play the ball in behind. Spurs CBs do this and their job is even tougher as both Porro and Udogie are very high but the sheer amount of athleticism and defensive awareness of Romero and Van de Ven makes it possible, as they don't only cover the space in behind but also the channels. Honestly, it would be foolish to ask our available CBs to do so. And, to play a high line, your CMs should also connect the press by not giving the opposition time to get their head up and play in behind. The best evidence of it was Real Madrid's 4-1 win over Barca in Spanish Supercup, when Vini scored a hattrick even tho Barca had good CBs.
Why take Ajax as an example, lets take last season, I remember the 2-1 win over Barca, Licha was so aggresive on Lewa, the 2-0 win over Spurs, and so many other matches when I saw our entire game was played in our attacking half.
There is no need to replicate Man City or Arsenal's style, we can build our own style. Look at Madrid historically, very good on the ball but absolutely elite, lethal IN BOTH attacking & defensive transitions. Man Utd historically have been better at transitions. We are extremely good even now, for me, top 5-6 in the world in attacking transition (due to young, technical players) but maybe the worst at defensive transitions and the reason is obvious, player personnel. We have non-technical, slow, aged players at DM and backline.
Ppl will say Ange imposed his style nonetheless but without any disrespect, football tactics have to be winning tactics, not entertaining tactics. I ll always choose a bit more pragmatic manager. ETH is focusing on youth, so lets overhaul the rest of the squad and build a fantastic team. Sir Alex has spoiled us with consistent success, so abt time we be patient with a process and make our way to success again. GGMU!!

This is what some of our fan don't understand. You can't suddenly play a different way when the player is not built for that. It's gonna take more signing and youth. Just be patient, no manager is gonna succeed overnight when we have been shit for more than a decade.

ETG has his own philosophy and style of play but with Harry, and lindy, can we play that high line? That has been his style but with this current defenders minus Licha n Verane when fit we can't play. How may times have we fielded Licha, Verane, Shaw, and Dalot? This is our best back but looking at the injury situation we need to give ETH time and the right kind of players to suit his style and stop calling for a new manager each time we have a bad game. Arteta, Klop, Pep were all giving time and the right players and let's look at their successes now. Let's back ETH

    • @user-ig1ps2mr2r
      @user-ig1ps2mr2r Před 29 dny +2

@@richardahinful7157 Exactly my point. The problem is fans like us, who actually know problems at the club get outspoken by the social media fans who spam ETH out after a loss. The media doesn't help either so a Man Utd manager basically has to start winning right from the go. ETH realised this after 4-0 defeat to Brentford and completely adjusted acc to the players. Expecting ETH to challenge for PL is like telling Arteta to do the same with Lacazette, David Luiz, Sokratis, Maitland Niles, Elneny etc. Arsenal got rid of everyone!!, and eventually so and built around Saka, Martinelli, Gabriel and Smith Rowe. (U see the parallels? We also have to build around Mainoo, Garnacho, Hojlund etc whilst getting rid of players who are here from before Van Gaal's reign!!).
Honestly, even Ole didn't deserve this fate. We all knew what Ole ball was all about, rapid transitions. Bruno, Maguire, Rashy, Martial all thrived under that. We finished 2nd in 20/21 and lost UEL Final on penalties. This was on paper better than Arsenal's 22/23 season. Gunners bought Rice, Timber, Havertz and Raya to suit their style. And what did we do to support Ole? Buy a 36 yr old Ronaldo (who did his job brillantly) instead of a rapid young high pressing ST. They got a veteran CB in Varane instead of a young agile CB. The most insane thing was to get Sancho when he clearly was more of a good with ball to his feet player when all they needed was a proper CDM to replace McFred and some cover for Rashy, Martial, Greenwood. This can't happen again. Who are we going to replace ETH with? De Zerbi? He is more focused on playing the ball out from the back than winning. Nagelsmann? Good luck having tactical flexibility with these players.
I am convinced INEOS will stick with ETH as they have said the manager isn't at fault due to poor structure and that 2-3 yrs would be needed to start competing for titles.

Ten hag has proven he can coach a team to "develop" and play that style of play while at Ajax. It didn't click at the first instance, but it was not really a problem because the teams in and around the them were not as technically and physically at the same level as Ajax, so therefore he could still get results and the gradual development of the team was not significant.
Manchester United is a big team in the premier League but not with big players, therefore he is expected to win games, but don't forget, with players not in and around the same level as current top teams in the premier League, it is difficult to coach a certain type of play.
This can be explained in the high energy, commit bodies forward, hope to catch the opposition unawares that klop played in his first seasons and Ange currently is deploying at spurs.
There is the idea that this is his second season to atleast get to grip and try to organise a squad that has an identity, however, when plagued with injuries like we have this season, and key players that can be said to be top class are underperforming and the youth are the only shining light, considering they are the only one's currently with a bit of technicality and bravery; and his eye for spotting them and enabling them to go every week and perform among opposition top players, I would dare to compare Jürgen klop and his management of last season after being in charge for a number of years, and wasn't for key players returning, being available and performing towards the later stages of last season's competition, one can be left to wonder where they would have ended the season.
Sacking Ten Hag does not solve the problem, as he was one of the best coaches around when he signed for United, we all were happy and could only imagine the beautiful way we could start to play football, till the first two games of the season showed us where exactly we were in terms of player quality in the premier League.
In summary, I would say, Ten Hag should be allowed to see out his current contract and be accessed on the development, style of play, and overall performance of the team after next season's competition.

Don't want to pin point a couple of players. Its easy to say it's Rashi or Bruno, though I don't disagree. But we have to also see that they have been playing a very different style of football for a very long time. They have been mould into that style. Hard for them to adapt. Now Eth has given them ample amount of time to adapt fast but they haven't. Therefore I feel some players who can't adapt fast to a new style of play, United need to have hard talks with them.

@AJAnalysis Thanks for this video. Appreciate that you're making these type of analytical contents without jumping to emotion-driven conclusions. Hoping for more such videos.
From the optics, we are playing bad disjointed football. But I also see glimpses of the Ajax way (similar to what you highlighted in the video).
What concerns me the most is the lack of cohesiveness among the players being fielded every game, which I believe is a result of constantly shuffling critical positions due to injuries. I also believe that we have present players who don't fit to ETH's Ajax style (in terms of physicality, mentality, discipline and decision-making). The pragmatic side of me thinks that we will need more time to sort these issues (e.g. injuries, transfers) out in order to get the right set of players that can be given enough time to train and play cohesively with the new style.

Not a happy season for lots of reasons, but I just see no benefit in turfing yet another manager and then having the replacement use the summer to make the squad even more incoherent.
I think it is going to be a hard slog of a transfer season anyway - FFP really makes it hard to offload players on huge salaries, as we saw with McTominay and Maguire last summer and to buy in there will need to be transfers out. There is a good chance that one or even both of the two loans to German clubs will come back like bad pennies as well.
Let's see how next season plays out.

We are implementing a good structure at least on paper so I don't want to hear anything about an "incoherent squad". Ineos will be building the team around the football philosophy they will decide for the club buying players for this system removing the squad building issues you mention.

Interesting analysis, but you are ignoring the problem that EtH has in implementing a high-press with the current players that he has at his disposal at United. With Casemiro and particularly Maguire they simply haven't got the pace to go man-to-man and instead, they retreat 10 metres which leaves the massive hole that we see every week.
Until we get more pace in midfield and at the back there is no way that we can commit to a high-press

    1. CBs - you can't keep Maguire or lindelof man marking a toney at brentford, Secondly martinez has height issues.
    2. Secondly, the midfielders can't play with back to goal
We don't have one ball carrying midfielder or CB... casemiro was never dejong, or lobotka or busquet. If opponent go long and Cb wins it, only mainoo can even attempt playing but with who ?
    3. You didn't talk about the striker position
Ten hag uses a tall striker most times as an escape route...
Remember haller?, we need a tall striker that is aerially lethal like a weghoust that can score, like a sesko or muriqi... hojlund is young
So 2 positions we can't do without: ball carrying centre back like KMJ or converting luke Shaw
Second is 1 midfielders that can play with pressure, he Mustn't be good at tackling as casemiro but he can drop and play
Then one position that is desired- striker
I still think we need a good winger to replace rashford if we have options though
Antony can stay cos he defends, rashford can't defend or attack

Last season we played some really nice football with those same players, however this season has not been good to us where the injury God's are concerned. It's like every week or every other week we are playing with a different defence so we can't have any continuity as well as several of our CB are to slow leaving ETH in a position to work with what he has, therefore you would never see the type of football that we should be playing

Unrelated, and I assume you wouldn’t do it until after the season is finished, but it’d be cool to see your “dream” transfer window for this summer. Including looking through potential budgets and players sales. I was looking through it the other day, and it looks like we could genuinely be looking at £300-450m from player sales alone. If not more. That’s without including the set transfer budget, and only with realistic players being sold at realistic prices. I don’t think it’d be unachievable to be looking at that amount if you look at the players we have in our squad who need to go. There’s easily 13+ of them. Chelsea got rid of over 20 last summer, but their problem is that most of theirs were loans or free transfers. I don’t think we’d have that problem.

To summarise maguire lindelof evans are not good in one on one situations and hence need wing backs to baby sit. Wing backs aren’t that great to press either shaw n bissaka. In short we need whole new defensive unit to play this system. If u are still wondering v r doomed

Honestly you need different players and more players. You don't have the players to play a high press. And that is what ten Hag has said before ......

  • @dimassubrata
    @dimassubrata Před měsícem +2

We know since ten Hag appointed as Man Utd manager we need to rebuild that defense, yet in past 4 transfer window only 2 defenders was signed being Malacia & Martinez.
Both have missed most of the season, so what we have is basically Ole's defender which not meant to play high defensive line.
Completely showcase how poor our recruitment team.

I think since Martinez has been absent this season and casemiro declined in form, it has made ETH to put dalot in a reserveed row, besides if dalot goes forward and fails to win the ball back, the back 3 is not reliable enough to cover him.maguire is pron to mistake, varane not reliable, Evans is a total joke, maybe willy might cover him on the right hand side

what we can criticize him for is his recruitment but then again united was not known for their excellent recruitment before eth, when we think of all the factors, eth is the victim of this poorly managed club

Clear difference is Ajax have structure & he had all the tools plus players necessary to succeed at Ajax. Manchester United have NO structure & he don't have the necessary tools plus players to succeed at Man Utd.

Interesting, but I think this still doesn't really solve the problem of having the defence so disconnected from the pressing players up front, and so often than not, our players simply are dragged out of position to press and then a huge gap is left in between midfield and defence. Even when games where we sit deeper and not press that high, the structure of the team just gets pulled apart so easily by the opponent. The amount of shots we've been facing this season is a bit absurd, we can't just rely on athleticism to cover the ground right?

While it's obvious that your football knowledge is not that great, just like the English pundits who only focus on English football, this issue has been raised many times in Holland when EtH was managing Ajax. Just like people with common sense can see that it's a personnel issue, you choose to be a bot by just agreeing with the silly English pundits. What we need are two athletic ball-playing centre-backs that can actually push up when it comes to the higher line and a defensive midfielder, and the gap you see automatically goes away. Eric wanted De Jong. But instead, the club gave him Casemiro, who's already coming to the end of his career. But we desperately needed a DMC so we had to buy him. Manchester United fans have such goldfish brains. Have you forgotten how long it took us to bring a DMC to that club? Casemiro did well last season because we were playing pragmatic counter-attacking football. He doesn't have the athleticism to play Erik's style of play. He wanted Kim Min Jae, but the club gave him Johnny Evans 🤣 Even with those horrible buys, he still decided to try playing his style of play this season, and with all the 50 plus injuries we've had this season, what are you expecting? Also who cares about the amount of shots How many goals are the opponents actually scoring Even with our horrible defence? High risk high reward.

i guess we need an athletic dm and cb..i think i can see the cb that can backup dalot in kambwala, but we still need 1 more quality cb there. dm is definitely. if varane left, than make it 2 more cb, and 1 or 2 dm.

I think another issue really comes with the formation.
I’d like to see United have. 4-1-3-2.
The back line is still a four back and have a deep sitting DM (mainoo) behind the midfield and I feint of defense. Have garnacho and Antony/rashford with her side.
Bruno down the middle and then two strikers, hojlund and maybe Brobbey as I understand.

ETH has done this pressing structure before in the league at Wolves and we were clesrly dominant. the problem is you have to consyantky remind Dalot/AWB to do this over and over and over... none of them are suited for the pressing structure despite their abilities because they arent just learning. simple.

Part of why I have lost faith in Ten Hag is when he said we will NEVER play like his Ajax team 😕
That's literally why he was hired, if he's not even working towards that, then what are we doing here?
Unless he can make a MASSIVE turnaround in terms of style of play, I hope they let him go in the Summer.
