    I came back from Carlisle down the WCML about 10 years ago behind D9000 and could tell it was doing over 100mph. After alighting in Stoke I had to walk up and ask the driver. 108mph wasn't bad for a 50 year old veteran!

    Great footage! Love the cab bells (indicating the clear road ahead). Also seems like a relatively quiet cab too!

    You know its a fascinating video this, funny thing is when 22 approaches Doncaster, the compressor fires up, and it feels like 22 has a proud roar passing the plant, sort of like Look at me STILL GOIN!

    Imagine back in the day after driving one of these for 3 or 4 hours straight by the time you got home and crawled into bed your body was still feeling every bump in the track and your ears were still ringing with Napier noise.....

      They rode very well. The template for all high speed traction. Wasn’t too nosey when the curtain was pulled shut.

    Great stuff,it reminds me of when i secondmanned it on 22nd Feb 1997 King's Cross to Norwich,never did get to drive it,has anyone any footage from that trip??Also has anyone got footage of the 25th Sept 1999 'Last Chance' railtour,I'd love to see footage of 37109 on the stops at King's Cross on full power in neutral,I was the driver on it for the Donny KX bit,sorry it went a bit tits up but I got it sorted with some help eventually.

      If the signal isn't green a hooter sounds instead of the bell, and the driver must press a button within a couple of seconds; otherwise the power will be shut off and the brakes applied. There is also a display in front of the driver that shows uniform black if the last signal passed was green and shows black and yellow segments (the yellow ones luminous in the dark) if it was not green. With this system if the driver is taken ill the train will be stopped without running into anything.

    I don't know what the drivers are winging on about. Look at steam locos, even worse for visibility. And then there's American locos with their centre cabs

  • @BulletNoseBetty

    American locos with centre cabs? Where have you been lately? Modern North American locos have end cabs.

    • @davidjones3758
      @davidjones3758 Před 5 lety +1

      Our locos where properly designed and built unlike the yank designs we have now due to a certain government who destroyed our manufacturing base in the 1980,s

  • @Bulletguy07
    @Bulletguy07 Před 11 lety

    Would have been nice to have some 'in cab' views, instrument gauges etc, rather than the entire 4 min shot through a window.

  • @Bulletguy07
    @Bulletguy07 Před 13 lety +2

    Pointless four minute video spent staring through one window at rail track and overhead cable......why? What about the INSIDE of the cab?

    • @al66class59
      @al66class59 Před 6 lety +4

      This is meant to be like a driver’s eye view, not a look around... the point of this is to show what the train went past. It would be pointless if he aimed the camera at the controls for the entirety of the video.
