I got a box of old trains with a baker light observation car. I spray painted it orange to be my personal business car. After a few laps around the layout the light bulbs on the inside started to come on. 70 year old general electric light bulbs still work. Everything this country made in the old days was the best quality, the yardstick that everything else was measured against.

If you go to collecting/operating the best of the best, cleanest, nicest, and has all the bells and whistles then yes Lionel and other O/O27 gauge trains can be expensive. But if you don't mind a little character (scuffs and scratches) and don't have to have the latest and coolest, like any hobby O gauge trains can be affordable. I've been collecting/operating them for about 30 years and just love them. The space comment though, yes they do like the real estate. Especially if you want a large layout.

Yeah, it was more or less common knowledge that Lionel's 0-27 gauge was S gauge rolling stock on Lionel's cheap O gauge track. It was marketed mainly to children as it was a cheaper alternative and children were not concerned with scale.

Fun video. I would consider upgrading the ZW transformer prior to using it. You replace the whistle selenium rectifiers with diodes and you replace the circuit breaker with a modern faster acting breaker. As to the older style Flyer link couplers, I prefer them to the knuckle couplers and they are the ones in use on my Flyer layout. Awhile back I did a video on my channel on the ZW upgrade.

The motor spins freely with the wheels I paid $250 for the whole bunch it also came with a ton of Passenger cars and gp7 painted in Atlantic coastline paint scheme. I might just take it to the Hobby Shop and have the guy service it and run it for excursions. I would really like to have a Williams GS2 Southern Pacific painting up in the Freedom Train colors I just can't deal with the motor sticking out of the cab. I like cab interiors and a crew and steam locomotive. I run a lot of Williams locomotive they are simple to maintain and when the circuit board goes out I will have a rectifier wired and Powers the DC can Motors.

American Flyer could not put a whistle unit in a tender because Lionel had patented that arrangement. So they came out with the whistling billboard which was a lot better because you could use that for engines who did not have any whistle. I also believe they had a diesel horn and a fuel tank or maybe it was another billboard

Nice haul. Your videos are getting better and better. Very enjoyable and entertaining to watch! I noticed that your 520 box cab electric was missing a pilot truck. it's actually a 2-4-0. Also, the gateman house is oversized because it was originally made for Lionel standard gauge trains, which were the first trains that they mass produced. Later on they developed an O gauge line and marketed the gateman for those trains too.

Looking forward to seeing your Flyer stuff running! The curve radius is closer to 40", I think. Nice thing is, since Lionel and Flyer run on AC, the transformers are more or less interchangeable. However, you can run the Flyer engines on DC since they have universal motors. But you'd need a DC supply capable of 3-6 amps, way higher than most HO packs can out put. I use a Flyer transformer and added a high current bridge rectifier (8 amps) and run my Flyer on DC. In my opinion they spark less and run quieter. However the reversers tend to stick more on DC.

I like the Flyer Atlantics. No one made a better Choo Choo sounds than Flyer. You will come to love them my friend. The track cleans up nice. Yes, their prices tend to dip in comparision to Lionel, but you can make a very nice 4x8 layout. If room permits...you might consider a 5x9 layout. The Marx 666 run forever! The 666 is by far one of Marxs best. Your Lionel haul looks pretty good. I like the 1033 transformer. Great for a simple O-27 4x8 or 5x9 layout. What your going to find my friend, O gauge really dosent take up as much room as others believe. If you like the Bells and whistles O is the way to go. No choo choo or smoke. My First AF train when I was 3 years old. Still have it though I converted all my AF to DC Can motors. Runs smoother, quieter, and less hot the the old AF motors, which btw most can be run on AC or DC as the are universal motors. Unless they are marked AC after the number or DC after the number. @richardsobieck9660 Před rokem

Normal mistake. The only difference between lionel O and O27 actually is the profile of the rails. All Lionel trains will run on either track except the larger steam locos which will not negotiate the 27" radius curves of O27 track. Hence the name. O scale track has generally 31" radius curves. That said either track can be found in radii up to 72" radius curves. (Marx track although O27 in size actually had 34" curves. I prefer the smaller profile rail as it looks better and is easily found in abundance. Menard's makes O scale compatible track but I think those high rails, which would be knee high in real life, look stupid. My opinion. Most of the trains you found are basic starter set types. The American Flyer locos are a much better find. and that B&O timesaver 6464 Boxcar is one of the most desirable of the 6464 Series. Those unlettered cabooses were normal post war items. Lionel in an attempt to cut costs released many cabooses and some freight cars without markings. Your Grey Sante Fe hopper is a nice piece. however the number 6076 would indicate that it should have left the factory with out any operating couplers not one. But those kind of factrory Boo boos were common.
