When you first close your eyes to the dark, it’s scary and you run for your life towards the slightest of light you can find. Desperately in need of some warmth and comfort, thinking that this experience will stop you from ever going back. But that’s not how darkness plays the game. Once you’ve entered it .. there’s no way it has not entered you.
There’s no “I’m not gonna do it ever again” because after a while you start to feel the lack of darkness in yourself. The horrific yet soothing vision that you once tasted stays, making you yearn and crave for more until you give in to the temptation.
The doors start closing one by one on your command, snuffing the lights out. The last door that closes isn't because you’re gonna “try diving deeper” it closes behind because you “need it” to be closed. The sooth that you once received, starts filling your senses again. Calm, cold and captivating sensations course through your body, and then it happens.
Your eyes open, your vision slowly starts to take in the darkness around you making silhouettes of your buried desires, deprecated, damned and the dull. You don’t blink, because it’s so pretty down here that you don’t wanna miss it. Your eyes start hurting when you stare into the dark, trying to make sense walking slowly, carefully with your hands stretched out in search of any obstruction in your path. Path to where? It doesn't matter .. but what does matter is your response to the gaze that befalls you when darkness opens its eyes.
The vision it carries? An abysmal reflection of your own soul wandering into the lustful valleys of nothingness bound by your deteriorating will power, scary isn’t it? You're giving yourself away to it consciously and you start to reason with yourself, sealing your fate by either closing your eyes or staring back at it.
The choice was always yours, but were you brave enough?

Reminds me of my character Helga, from a fandom au I have. She’s cruel, manipulative, ruthless, unforgiving, deceptively sweet, and condescending. She heavily traumatized her brother, husband, and 2 younger children. her son has nightmares about her regularly, because she basically FORCED him to do awful things, including blow up his friend’s house, which caused him to have pretty much NO self-esteem, as well as guilt problems, panic attacks, and other things.
Cut to the second book of the au. A lot of sh*t happens in the first book, but let’s just say she has a robot arm and foot, and part of her face is now a cyborg. She’s also insane and sadistic now.
