The movie shows the true nature of society. Weak people are never respected. So, a wise man has three things- power, physical strength and money.
That isn't a wise person, it is a strong person.

Hutch burned all of the money instead of stealing it. He also shows mercy to the thieves twice. IMO, the main character was never weak, but he got sick of being unseen and unappreciated.
