The Apple Watch Series 3 and the Apple Watch SE are the budget Apple Watches in late 2020. The Series 3 is slightly cheaper but the SE has a newer design and S5 processor.
So, which should you choose?
I picked up both the Series 3 and the SE to test them for a few weeks to give you my recommendation. I wanted to be as unbiased as possible so I cover all the specs and features for both watches but also give my opinion as to whether the differences are worth the upgrade.
Overall, both the Apple Watch Series 3 and the Apple Watch SE are great watches for the 2020 holiday season.

Honestly I bought a barely used 3 for like $50 and to me it’s perfectly great for seeing if I even like having an Apple Watch. Didn’t want to pay full price for something I was on the fence for. Had it only a few days now and I like it so far. If I still like it later on I’ll upgrade.

Great review. I bought my Dad the Series 3 42 mm on Black Friday for $149 which is too good of a price to pass up. Mainly bought it for him to pair with his Dexcom blood glucose monitor but for all the basic stuff like calls, notifications, and heart rate it’s been solid if not as quick as the SE but still completely usable. As for myself, I went all out and got the Series 6 silver stainless steel with Milanese loop band after my Series 1 finally died.

I just bought a series 3, it was only $139 from Best Buy (open box, excellent, so like new) mostly because I couldn’t justify the massive price difference for not that many features, and a slightly larger screen and better processor. I’m excited for my Series 3.
Edit: about 7 months on, the Series 3 has been fine. It’s done it’s job fine, but it falls behind in the screen, storage, design, and features, so I’m getting the SE. Really looking forward to it!
Edit 2: Finally got the SE! It’s really great! The screen is soooooo much better.
