- Meet a rare Black Barn Owl at Happisburgh Owls. On the north Norfolk coast there is an elegant example of this incredibly rare bird - the result of a genetic mutation that means there are just a handful thought to exist in the UK.
My grandma was a bird person, she loved barn owls. She would always say, "barn owls look like perfectly toasted marshmallows." It's funny to me that this one looks like a burnt marshmallow.
I either came to the same conclusion, or saw your comment years ago, but I call them toasted marshmallows too

I'm from the Caribbean and we only have Lesser Antillian Barn Owls (a slightly smaller, darker brown version of the common barn owl) on our island altho years ago people claimed to have seen owls here with ear tufts feathers that were fairly bigger than the ones we have here today and they had brown, grayish feathers and either yellow or orange eyes. If anyone saw that black barn owl here on my island, they'll be scared and call it witchcraft because it's an unusual sight. We hardly ever see owls up close anyways. As we speak, there is a few of them flying within vicinity of my home and they are even scrambling after small animals like rats that occasionally run across our roof. I always loved owls growing up but also had an immense fear towards them because I never had the opportunity to see them up close. The screams they make are blood boiling and can awaken the dead.
My mom signed this contract thing from the government so we can keep an owl and it turned out the owl was just as rare as this because it's a black barn owl

Gorgeous bird! I was able to meet a black barn owl recently and it was stunning. I'm definitely going to be making a video all about them soon, they're such an interesting animal.
