2 tbs water
20 drops black food colouring - water based
300g pasta

Hey Todd, if you make your pasta, couldn't you also mix the coloring into the batter before you cut it into strips?

i'm not the one who made this video, it's just my opinion that it shouldn't be an issue to do as you're saying
GothicAvonLady97 I know who made the video, I was just saying that if you didn't want to do it the way Todd did in the video, you could put the coloring in the batter prior to making the pasta

They totally could make it better the food coloring doesn’t have the same taste as squid ink pasta

Many people are pretty critical of this video, which I can understand. I mean, this is no recipe, it's just "assemble coloring and pasta, done". This being said, I think the video is more about the idea than the recipe itself. Most people wouldn't think of black pasta for Halloween. While many things like eyes (grapes) in the punch or candy and stuff will be expected, I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't expect black pasta. :)

I'm going to make this tonight! And I'll use Alfredo sauce with orange food coloring in it to give it a nice Halloween look! YUM!

I think squid ink mixed in the pasta dough will give the same affect.
In Japan they make black noodles and black bread with squid ink.
Pretty much. It'll taste slightly salty but as long as you don't put in like 10 liters, noone will notice you used squid ink at all. This being said, squid ink is a bit more expensive so I'd rather save it for meals where it actually makes sense to use it :)

Although I know it's simple and a bit 'duh', I think it's the thought that counts. I would've never thought to do this for Halloween and now I will because I don't think of epic ideas like you Todd!! Thanks!! :DD plus welcome back epic intro!!!

@Todd's Kitchen Cool! Can you use squid ink for the black colour? If you are making fresh pasta, you can I know. You can buy black pasta in the shops. It has squid ink in it. Would squid ink be okay on freshly cooked and cooled pasta? Your videos are awesome! Cheers!

before i watch this i hope you put Squid ink as the main recipe Because squid ink taste really good AND its good for you BECAUSE IT HAS ALOT OF IRON which helps produce more red blood cells

Yeah, before I saw the cooked pasta I thought 'wow squid ink pasta is going all out for Halloween'
It's can also put the cooked pasta in the pan with a little bit or olive oil, popped squid ink sack (some times Walmart sells squid), some sauteed gralic (and onion if desired), broth or pasta water, and some of the squid meat and you have pasta Al nero di seppia.
I make black pasta using squid's ink as the sauce and add some squid ofcourse, black olives, shrimp and other seafoods you like. I think you should try it out sometime.

Also a good alternative to black food colouring is Squid Ink

How do they do that? From what I've seen, the squid is dead and the ink sack is removed.
Even if the ink is "extracted" from live squids. That is a process that sounds pretty dire for the squid.
They regrow another ink sac
Its a 1 hour process when that happens they hide and only eat small fish

It is that's how you do it when your making the pasta from scratch but unless your buying the squid ink from a specialty store u can really get it a lot o places
