Thanks to everyone who submitted questions!
Still can’t believe we get an elite tier producer giving us this for free
Exactly, I feel grateful for this video.
Innit! Glad everyone is not money grubbing and selfish and realises that through sharing knowledge we all benefit! What a legend!
Music is about sharing and bringing people together, it's how it should be.
Seriously, this plus Disclosure's Latch breakdown... we amateur producers are so damn lucky to get this.
Looks like a fetal alcohol syndrome or abortion mistake next to a deathstep or breakcore or hardstyle producer.
I was 5 minutes in when I realized that it’s a billboard level producer showing us his work for free. What did we do to deserve this?
What are you gonna do? Copy the tips?
@@wickstorm_records i don't see a problem with that
You watch ads on youtube and then you talk to your friends about it. If no one did, they wouldn't do it.
it's all entertainment man...artists, producers always inspire other artists and producers. its the ebs and flows of life and creativity
The point he makes at the end is absolutely crucial. You need to know all of the technicals…why do you cut certain things around 200-400hz, high passing tracks so they clean up and image better, ratios, knees, Q and high level automation. But that’s all just the prerequisite. That’s a GIVEN. It’s all in service of your creativity, musical taste and ability to work closely with an artist. That’s the stuff that gets you hired *for real*
Wait but in the video is it ian the producer talking or is it the mix engineer 🤔 cause for producing that doesnt matter that's mixing
@Jaris or you hire a mix engineer to mix it for you
YOU ramble
@@bluebird1954 today music producers have to be everything in one, theres a good clip of deadmau5 talking about it
brooo he said, 'that one guy on youtube would be so mad at me' lmfao that one guy being fox stevenson
You called it! That's from this video (if you're reading this and feeling curious) - czcams.com/video/64ka_BNfx1o/video.html
Why he mad at him if he's a youtuber and our bro is producer for top artists(Dua lipa).
@@bhaveshtochabbra6853 he was just joking?
@@bhaveshtochabbra6853 Fox stevenson is a well established producer, writer, artist. Which is what made Ian calling him a CZcamsr funny. If you look at the Video sol posted, fox talks about why OTT is a bad plugin for phasing reasons. A lot of ppl use it but Fox spoke out highly against it and for good reason. I recommend watching the video. With all that said, does it rlly matter? I mean Ian clearly uses it on top 40 tracks. It's up to user discretion.
i missed the streaming but i have a little tip for the "half time recording", in my country there's a big artist that makes use of this technique in an awesome way (Tha Supreme) if you feel the track is just too fast to sing or rap over it without making mistakes or it feeling like you're actually chasing the song you can lower the bpm by 10-15bpm or even more (keep track of that tempo, don't forget it), just meet your needs, then sing/rap over it normally, then what you do is importing back the vocal and changing the tempo of the sample like you would do with a loop, let's say the loop is 100 bpm and your song is 115, it's the same technique,, in fl studio you open up the sampler and then right click on "Time" in time stretching and then you click "autodetect", then "type in bpm" and you enter the bpm the vocal was recorded at, then in the time stretching corner you set the mode to e3 mono / e3 generic (which sounds best), you'll see the vocal will have a very natural feeling while being faster and also keeping the key it was recorded at. you can do the same with vocals you already have in your sound library
i use this all the time when recording harder parts for bass, varispeed in logic can speed down your project by a percentage and it sounds cool when you put it up again
🇮🇹💜
Does anyone know how it works in cubase?
@@deewrath1440 sounds like it's just timestretching
@@MrMikomi ya pretty much but im sure there are multiple modes under time stretching that can give different results
I like Ian's humor! It makes him relatable, plus it seems like a big part of how he enjoys himself. Awesome stream. Thanks for the edit Sol State!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was the first dua lipa song i heard from when she hit the mainstream. I was beyond blown away (as someone who had been producing for only months).
So incredible to see the breakdown
Song from Dua "I could be the one" was getting some radio play in the UK before New rules come out.
it's crazy how much content exists thanks to people like you and Ian to help learn the process of producing. When I first started in 2014 barely half of this info was so easily publicly accessible and I'm sure people older then me would laugh as they had near nothing
Like Patrick you learn by doing and not by copying. Patrick sound is unique because He did his own think and literally said "fxxx it to anyone eles" Do your thing.
The edits, the f bombs, the OTT abuse, great vod!
the fact that people don't know who actually makes these hit songs and give all the credit to one person like dua lipa is just crazy
Most artists are dancers and singers and that's it, they dont make there own music or wright there own lyrics, even Drake has 3 other people writing his lyrics.
Yeah most 'artists' are not actually the artist. They're just the paint in the can...
I also hate when people give all the credit for a movie to actors, when HUNDREDS of people can work on a movie.
“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.”
@@MyExploratorySpace-yc4pk recognition, of course real donnies know
Extremely well produced track from a guy who clearly knows what he is doing at the top of his game! Clean and crisp production! Unreal.
Ian Kirkpatrick - not only are u an amazing producer - but ur attitude!! U love what u do - that passion - that is the stuff right there!!
This track was absolutely captivating for me personally and I don't generally listen to this genre. Love seeing the breakdown as a listener/producer myself as it's filled with valuable info. I actually made a reggae dub remix of this track cuz I loved it so much. 💯
Definitely learned something new, the layering in this song is fire. Thanks for the video Sol State
I actually like the humor LOL!!! Man, it's amazing how you fly through the entire thing, a lot of things I will have to go back to a couple times, but it's really cool how you share the overall idea super quick.
This video has really inspired me so much im in tears you deserve sooo much more credit for what you do I loved your humour your so creative and talented
This man is a wizard. He makes it all look so effortless.
That drum fill is everything!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video man!
7:47 Ok he's my current favorite producer now hahaha 🤣
This is wildly brilliant. It always amazes me how none of this is by accident but the result of APPLIED EXPERIENCES. Gotta love it
It's a great feeling being able to watch you do stuff in Cubase, a DAW I've never used, and still be able to follow along just fine. Same goes for Blender, Davinci, Affinity, and other modern softwares. Love how intuitive and powerful it is all becoming!
A-mazin’ so incredible and inspiring to get a look behind the scenes. Incredible Ian🕸
The level of information here is gold. Thank you so much!
Yoooo 7:30 is so fire I can't get over it hahahaha
I love manual sidechaining! Sometimes the pencil tool is mightier than the sword, or the plugin! 😜
Always wondered about this song. Its very original in its ”off” drops and vibe. Thanks!
This is amazing, why did i not know about this guy sooner. with his comedy and mind boggling skills, this man is truly an inspiration
Because it's the pop star singers who take the lime light no one why buys the music cares about who actually made the song.
This song is so very well produced! Like a perfect example of THE perfect production.
Appreciate you analysis. It lets me understand even better what Ian says, I have to see him live, and I always forget to do it.
Love DL and this breakdown is absolutely killer!
9:34 - Yes! My favorite part of the whole song. So cool to see the magic behind the scenes, thank you!
Gotta love this guy thanks for doing this Sol!
This guy is a whole vibe.. shows in the music
well said
Shout out to Ian for answering my question. That pitch and volume automation totally reinvents the sample. Thanks!
Huge difference, right?!
Some neat tips and tricks here ! Thanks so much for your work on these videos
i love this song so much glad he went over it!
I waited this for so long time. Thank you!
absolute fire instructions on how the mental process of his creativity.
Love this! Great information. Thanks so much.
This breakdown is out of this world hey!
0:55 pitch down add noise
1:56 Synth
3:18 Layer synth
4:16 Vocal Effects wtf
7:10 long vox FX
9:30 Fill
10:47 Tambourine?? Bit Noise
The pre-chorus drum fill is from “That Sound Drumline Deluxe” sample pack, the name of the file is “105 Song H 02 Full Performance”. And Ian pitched it up 4 steps.
Nice.
Congrats on the 100k!!🎉🎉
Thx!
Duuuuuude this is a MASTERCLASS.
This is brilliant and very entertaining!
The fact that this information comes free is unreal 🤟
This is gold! Massive thank you!!
Madly impressive, killer track, awesomeness all-round.
Congrats on 100k. Well deserved. Sol-dier from the get!
Thanks Mark!
This is gold. People should do this more!
I think I watched this video like once a month since its release 😅
Ian is just so fun to watch. On top of giving out all this awesome knowledge, I really apprecciate his humour and down to earth mentality.
And the editing is top-notch as always @Sol State!
Thanks Sol, great video again
Really enjoyed the video, those were pretty neat tips and Ian seems like a cool dude!
I still hear this sound, so good!
Sweet! Nice breakdown!
This guy is the best friend you want sitting next to you when producing.
you guys have no idea how much these types of videos help us small up and coming producers
I love this channel so much
awesome work!! ❤️
great video as always thank you
Loved this vídeo. Amazing
so cool to see that the big guys use same plugins that we normal folk use.
This is absolute gold!
12:14 This is exactly what happened with Ava Max - Sweet but Psycho. Tix (Andreas Haukeland) was going to use the lyrics for a mainstream party song in Norway, but thought it was too shit lol. He was later in a session with Ava and the rest is history
damn, so many little details and one time things, makes such a difference, wow. Thanks for this
beautiful work. Congrats! I'm glad i found your cannel. Thank you for good inspiration
Thats so sick!
Briiiiiiiliant!!!!!
Thnx SOL!!!!!!
shows how fun producing is
Sooo good and helpful!

BRUHHH I LOVE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOUR
I like this guy's energy
ian is such a legend
this is by far your best video. omfg this is just perfect. THX !!!
Thanks! Always trying to improve - what made this better than others for YOU?
@@SolStateMusic I think it's a bit of everything, so many new things I didn't know, the song itself, how Ian explains things and which infos you cut out and how you set them together. Every clip had a length so you can just watch the video without even pausing or going back and learn and understand the 25 hacks in just 13minutes.
@@kingo5940 Thanks for the feedback!
Love this. Way more akin to my production approach than the so-called "pros" on youtube even if we make different styles of music. Interesting to see a behind the scenes look of this awesome song
So much to learn from other genres!
Amazing, been waiting for some new rules breakdown, would love more! Does Ian have full streams somewhere or where is it live for future reference?

Thank you so much for this video 🙏🏽
The deeper I delve into music production the more I learn that NO ONE cares about this nuanced level of production. You can spend hours perfecting your snare or kick drum sound and when you play the track for anyone, they will either bob their head, tap their foot or utter the almost standard reply of some other element they didn't like, "It's cool but I don't like the hook, you should do this..." 🤦🏾♀️
And then you're there scratching your head saying to yourself, "Hook? Who said anything about the hook? What did you think about those snares?"
After so many gut punches like this, I learned to just keep things simple and just make a well put together track. No one is winning Grammy's for a 8 layered synth pad you cooked up over the course of several days. Like 99.9% of your listeners just will not care about that level of sound design. Their brains are pretty lizard and all they want are catchy melodies, rhythms, a beat they can tap their foot or dance to and some catchy vocals.
They still hear music
And you think 2.5billion views is no one cares
@@tristantzara9496 Yes! The artist's name carries a lot as well. Same vocals with a standard production effort would've yielded the same results with the push this track is getting from the industry. Look at Adele's new track that is exploding right now. Simple programmed drum loop, with a standard piano progression and Adele's vocals. 🤷🏾♀️ This is why artists like Beyonce, Rhianna, Billy Elish, Kid Laroi can produce these uber popular tracks that sound just meh when it comes to the production side. Humans behave like lemmings. With enough exposure and hype any track can become the anthem of the summer. It is what it is. No one hears this track and says, "Hot Damn... listen to those snares!!!"
Producers care, but listeners don't. Just listen to STAY by The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber. It's so simple that it could've been made on a phone, but the hook is incredibly catchy and it just works.
You gotta make stupid music for stupid people - as some producer once said
This guy seems so fun to be around
Amazing!
Thanks to this useful channel, thanks to this guy for opening up to the public.
Subbed! that was great, thank you :D
your humor is the best
This is super useful-- and hilarious
Very good. Thank you
Amazing video thanks so much Ian and SS, Just went and checked out the video, such a well crafted song and story, Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This guy is a fucking legend ! Thank you for creating this ! 🔥
Very interesting production. Ian is the man!
He sure is!
What i have learned in videos you upload is add little things. that is what was missing in my production. since i begin to do that(little thing you dont hear, but you do) my production skyrocket. thing like grouping similar elements and glue them with delay/reverb also made my tracks so much better. i started to making some money from this. thank you for your contribution to this comunity.
Great observation and story. So glad to hear :)
fabulous as frenetic
my youre freaking amazing and humble
Love this guy
