- Lawyer Ben Crump, along with the family of U.S. Airman Roger Fortson released new audio and information regarding the deputy shooting of Fortson inside his apartment in Florida. Fortson was killed when the deputy opened fire shortly after knocking on his apartment door. Bodycam video footage captured the shooting in which six shots were quickly fired when the officer saw Fortson holding a handgun inside his doorway, which was legal to possess in his Florida apartment.
Distraught members of Fortson's family, including his sister and others, spoke at length about what he meant to him and fighting for justice for what they're calling an unjust shooting.

I'm convinced that isn't a legit problem. From all the footage I have witnessed it appears that black men and black women are targeted for these unalivings. I’m pretty sure it was a white bitter woman who wanted to see him out the neighborhood. But even so if it was a Karen, the cop should have did his due diligence to do his own investigation and take proper steps to prevent any blood being shed. He had no right to enter the apartment. We need to change the laws preventing breaking in the apt/house and shooting. There is no rightful reason a person should be shot in there own house or property by the police. To make matters worse the cop had the wrong house which means he just needed anyone to take the blame and if he was going to choose someone he’d prefer it be a black person.

Folks, I am a veteran, Pray that this family receives justice. Also, he was active duty, where is the Federal Government in this issue, this should be an OSI or FBI oversight. SrA Forton held his weapon down, that's called safe posture from weapon training on a weapons range, that's what cops and military members are taught. The cop told him to back up so he could shot him, execution style, with lethality, yet there was no threat. No CPR administered on scene. Our military enemies are watching and celebrating over this. SrA Forton, rest easy my brother in Arms, we have the watch.

This is really heartbreaking. As an Active Duty Navy Veteran-this pisses me off.When I was his age, i was preparing for my last deployment and enjoying the ins and outs of being in the military. This young man deserved to live. He had every right to protect his his home. Most military personnel have guns and use them better than the people who are sworn to protect. That police officer should be charged with murder and the woman who directed the police officers to his home need to be held accountable as well, because she was the demise to this young mans life.

I think when she said that she was talking about a couple weeks earlier when she was passing by and heard an argument, but she didn't call police then cause she wasn't sure of where the noise came from. This was an end apartment, so I don't see how she could have been passing by anyway. This was death by karens I think. The deputy's response was insane. How much investigation is needed? We all saw and heard what happened. This was an unnecessary shooting and the fact that the police was still shouting orders at him after shooting him six times and the VICTIM was still trying to comply with commands shows exactly how bad this officer screwed up. This is a terrible tragedy and the police need to step up and take responsibility when they screw up this badly. Pretending this shooting even possibly could have been justified is just plain wrong.

My heart goes out to this family of this young man that was killed for doing what he was told, the video shows he had one hand raised as the door was open, which indicates being compliant, but he was still shot 6 times, it's not just excessive, it was murder.

The hotel clerk didn't say anything about shots being fired. The officers actions appear to be a rush to judgement by killing this young man right after he opened his apartment door. Unbelievable!

I experienced a situation similar to this when I worked the streets. I responded to concern for welfare at an elderly white man’s home(at the right location). Upon arrival, I made contact with the gentleman. When he opened the door, I notice he stood bladed to me with his right hand behind his right thigh. Immediately noticing he was holding a gun, I advised who I was and why I was there. He held the gun in his hand for about thirty seconds, turned,walked away and laid it on a table. I knew he wasn’t in his right mind and wasn’t a threat to me. Just like the young man in this case wasn’t a threat to that deputy. Speaking from experience and watching the video, I feel this shouldn’t have happened.

I'm a conservative, and I see this as a 2nd Ammendment issue. The home-owner has a right to answer his door with a gun, and how would he know it's actually a cop and not someone trying to set him up and fool him?

He wasn't allowed to identify who was at his door, he never raised that weapon, and he wasn't given enough time to even drop it. Surely the department has terminated the officer involved? Cleary, at best, he isn't competent for law enforcement work.

The police officer gave an order, but he stepped aside, so the airman didn't see him through the peephole. That situation is very strange. I believe that the caller swatted the airman.
