For those who saw the full match, will realize this was purely a mental battle.
Zverev, when playing well like today, keeps baiting you, like he did to Jarry today... to go for the big one.
Jarry fell for the trap, and his UE count was high. He just couldn't execute the winners and just wilted under the immense pressure due to the depth and accuracy from the German.
Zverev doesn't blow you away on the court. He uses his top-notch baseline game to slowly chip away.

Jarbled's SF match was a mental battle against Pauline where he was tested with holding his nerve. This was simply being outplayed on serve & return by Serverev. The pressure to play perfect produced errors extracted by design.

So now there will be an eight date trial stretching from RG through Wimby. In the meantime, ALexus will continue to play some of the best tennis of his career. - Congrats Zverev on his first Masters title in almost two years, his first title of 2024 and an ATP ranking of No. 4 on Monday.
    - It has been a long road back after his severe ankle injury at the 2022 French Open which ended his 2022 season. Since then this is just his third title but a big one and just in time to contend for the 2024 French Open and the Paris Olympics.
    - He had a stellar year in 2021 winning the Olympics Singles Gold Medal, two Masters, 6 overall titles, the ATP Finals for a second time and finishing the year at No. 3.
    - Zverev is one of just a few active players with more than 20 career titles.

The thing I like about Zverev, is that he does have real shotmaking ability, and always had. Yes he has a great baseline game and is very steady, but whats great about his play to me is that he can hit massive winners in the middle of a rally, somewhat like Alcaraz in that regard. Its one of the reasons I always love a Zverev vs Shapovalov match, Zverev will usually win I think because over 3 sets Shapovalov doesnt have that depth or supreme ongoing stamina of Zverev, but its always a great clash of shotmaking.

Unless you're a Djokovic who can go toe to toe with him at the baseline. Or, an Alcaraz with a stellar all court game and attacking mentality to boot. Or, a Sinner who can hit winners at will...he will probably beat you on his day. Proved today.

He's doesn't have speed. Players have figured out to use the drop shot against him. Never been a slow champion. Every champion has good foot speed. He stands so far behind the baseline, even a not too great drop shot will likely go uncontested. Alcaraz, Sinner, Medvedev will exploit this fatal flaw.

@@FrederickJohnSebastian interesting take. The best movers and readers seem to win the most titles but there's never been a slow champion? I don't remember how fast Delpo, Cilic or Wawrinka were but I don't remember them being known for speed

    • @FrederickJohnSebastian
      @FrederickJohnSebastian Před 13 dny +1

@lachlancampbell5679 cilic lived and died by his serve which was an incredible weapon and helped mask his slower foot speed just like Raonic. I dont think Stan Wawrinka was slow. In a foot race, id rate him quicker than Zverev and I'm a Zverev fan. As he gets older, Alexsander will lose a step, its inevitable with Father Time, and this will become more pronounced. He understands this. It is why he has highlighted how important it is for him to have a big service day when playing against Medvedev, Sinner, Alcarez and Djokovic.

An extraordinary championship which was claimed by professional German tennis player in Rome Open. It was really a magnificent tourney on the behalf of Alexander Zverev. Especially, after recuperating his rigid injury, the mobility and efficiency of Alexander Zverev elevated at this point. It denotes the evolution of his performance in order to watch himself at the apogee. I am confident that he will reach the zenith of his professional career with his consistency and steadiness. Even though he was fiercely forced by the powerful rivals, he proves his resolution, versatility, quality and tenacity as part of this period. He has entirely gone down in the history by attaining such a colossal success after Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in Rome. Huge congratulations to my favorite male tennis player!

Sascha "the beater" Zverev needs a more opaque and thicker shorts.
His crown jewels were very visible and was highly distracting even to the viewers. I think Jarry was distracted by Zverevs wafer thin shorts and also the fact that the German kept pacing up to the Chileans box, in front of his stunning wife to display his crown jewels.
    Very underhand tactics from Sascha.

Honestly, it was a relatively consistent match throughout. Zverev simply served a bit better than Jarry and closed out his games quicker. I have to say, it only really picked up (for me at least) when it was 4-5 in the second set and Jarry was serving at 15-15 and he double faulted twice!!! That was a kicker. Do we give up? Or do we breathe, focus, and serve a good serve like we have been for most of the match. Somehow he did it and made it 5-5. And then those challenges made by Zverev when Jarry was serving at 5-6!!! Omg, that was crazy, Hawkeye confirmed that one that the umpire called out was actually in😱 Just shows why we need the automatic systems because both times Zverev challenged successfully and Jarry had to make a second serve, he lost the point. I bet if Zverev didn’t have a chance to challenge, it would go to a tiebreaker. I still see Zverev winning it, but 7-6 as opposed to 7-5, though one never truly knows…

@@got2bjoshmeddy was never the top contender for RG; that match does prove Zverev still struggles vs top players in the big moments.
Quarterfinals, semifinals of a major- things become different for Zverev. Very nervy. Especially vs the top guys, like Zverev would struggle vs an Alcaraz or a Sinner or maybe even a Tsitsipas. Imo.
Masters is one thing, and there is never an asterisk next to a win like that, but the draw was more depleted with injured players than we are likely to see at Roland Garros. Zverev has struggled more to get it done in that best of five format, but let's see.
