Have you got MSTS, pal? I thought you could do a story and call it "The Ghost Train of VR 499".
Once upon a time, in 1915, a 2-8-0 locomotive, number V499, was taking a rake of empty stock wagons to Redesdale down a pretty overgrown branch line which was not getting any younger. The train was running at night so that the wagons would be ready to be filled with graziers' cattle and sheep at sunrise. The train stopped at East Metcalfe and Barfold to set down some wagons. But unbeknown to the crew of number 499, there was trouble. Another stock train was parked at Redesdale and its engine, VR number AA932, had fallen smokebox first into the turntable well. Number V499 couldn't stop in time, and hoed into the parked cattle vans!
The crew of number V499 were killed immediately when their engine's boiler imploded. Ironically, nobody else was harmed. Nonetheless, the authorities tried to cover up this incident due to World War One. And nowadays Redesdale locals will tell you they can hear a ghostly steam engine puffing on the date of the catastrophe even though the line has been closed for 70 years.
