    Words can't explain how much I love Lindsey. I love her passion. She is the first one to truly make the violin a rock instrument. Taking my niece to see her n next month

      soooo many people have used the violin in rock music, it's not even funny. This isn't even rock music. It's dubstep pop stuff. Dream Theater had a violinist. And HE was DAMN good and used an instrument that produced a clean sound.

    Some people saying she made mistakes... People, the violin is not an easy instrument you know. You have to study a LOT to play the violin like she does. She is on stage, dancing, having nerves, and you judge her for her little mistakes. Some people don't have respect.

      It's not about respect, she's on stage and people who listen to and critique her expect her to give a good performance.
      There are plenty of violinists that play better than her. The difference is she dances. The problem here? She dances too much to the point where a lot of her notes played aren't there.
      There has to be a line drawn between mistakes made and performance given. You can't always say, 'OMG the violin is so hard to play, she's nervous, AND she's dancing!' Of course people are going to judge her, she's PERFORMING ON STAGE.
      This isn't a toddler we're giving a hoo-rah to with 24/7 encouragement. She views herself as a professional musician and should be treated as such. And if she gives a bad performance, even her own fans have to own up to that reality at some point.

    • @Spooky_Psyche
      @Spooky_Psyche Před 10 lety +9

      David Nguyen Her tour was so much better than this, especially the more recent performances. It's actually choreographed and she makes fewer mistakes because she's had a lot more practice since this performance.
      I also agree that it's amazing that she can even play at all while moving like that. I can guarantee that any violinist that's better than her would quickly lose quality if they tried to dance while playing.

    Before you say that it's bad, like some of you did, try playing an instrument on stage without a music sheet and an electric violin, besides it would be stupid to stay in one place the whole time, she's a really good dancer too, let her show off her talents!

    • @MrJunkWatcher
      @MrJunkWatcher Před 10 lety +34

      Just because she can do something I can't, doesn't justify the fact that this was a pretty bad performance. She played out of tune and missed quite a few notes, which is simply inexcusable, since she wrote this song herself. If anyone oughta be able to play it without sheet music, it's her.
      Look, I adore Lindsey's music. I've seen every music video of hers multiple times and still watch them regularly. And while I don't share her religious view, I admire her passion, her positivity and her view on life. She followed her dream, despite everyone telling her she'd fail and now she's living it, which is simply wonderful.
      But if this video is an indication of what her live performances are like, then I'd rather stick to her CZcams videos, thank you very much.

      @lera1004 Před 10 lety +4

      ***** ohh.. come on! every musician can play lots of stuff without sheets. Honestly, looks like she doesn't know basics. Her skills are too low for "big live shows"

    • @MrJunkWatcher
      @MrJunkWatcher Před 10 lety

      lera1004 Ok, I wouldn't go that far. She definitely knows how to play some violin, she can rearrange soundtracks into a well flowing medley and even writes her own songs. That takes a lot more than just "knowing the basics".
      I don't think her skills are too low for "big live shows" either (though I'm not seeing her filling a stadium any time soon), she just doesn't know when to stop dancing and concentrate on her playing. Which is amateurish, yes, but not unskilled, since she can do both perfectly fine, just not at the same time.

      I went to see Lindsey Stirling in concert June 27th, 2014 in Charlotte. Let me just say she sounds amazing live! I took some videos on my phone and when I was watching them later I noticed it didn't sound right-it kind of sounded like this video. I think the recording equipment isn't suited to capture the violins sounds during a live performance.

  • @komashara
    @komashara Před 9 lety +143

    I'm not even gonna say people said she made mistakes, people just said she missed SO much notes, well guess what, she can't do it PERFECTLY. She uses so much energy into her preformances. And she is unique. Most people just stand still playing the violin while she plays AND dances. Plus there was a LOT of people there probably, she was pretty confident at the start but still, The Kennedy Center.. It's not that easy... What she did took a lot of talent to do.

    Guys, before you start commenting on all her mistakes while performing, you should first consider how hard it is to play the violin while doing all those movements she does. Movering around alters the bow and makes it messy because it jumps around and it's hard to manage. Second, you should know how hard it is performing with an electric violin, because you can't hear the notes you're playing and can only hear it with the sound system of the stage. I admit that this is not one of her best performances and she has done better. Based on experience, it's much easier to perform with the wooden violin than an electric one. Please try to consider :) Keep spreading the lindsey love :)

      🎏🎏🎏 What happened here was when Lindsey began realized that his violin was out of tune, but as she had already started playing, she just try to correct the sound of his violin as he could, maybe it was just a string the loosened that much, but keep in mind that a small error in any instrument makes it impossible to interpret a song professionally and melodica, iMPOSSIBLE!! believe me.
      It usually happens that the violin last long without loosening the strings and sometimes suddenly becomes very loose.
      🔰🎑🎑🎑🎑🎑🎑
      I think Lindsey was not very good luck, especially because it is one of their best songs, but even so it is still very good.

    People also must remember; she's constantly on the road; performing with several concerts within a few days of each other. I went to see her live in Madison Wisconsin and she was absolutely incredible., she rarely missed notes and she was dancing like she always does. It wears her out; she's only human and there are going to be songs that she doesn't do as well on; I don't know where she gets the energy from to dance and play but after 2 hours of nonstop play, I don't know about you guys but I would be exhausted. When I saw her live, she was glistening sweat, it does take a physical toll. It's a different experience watching her live; it made me have that much more admiration for what she can do. She works hard and loves what she does. Even with a few missed notes or bad tuning (which could also be caused by the frequency pitches picked up by the live recording), Lindsey is still awesome and there's nobody I know of that can do what she can do.

      she misses the slide from high to low (the dubstep-y effect), I think it's because it's almost impossible to make such a big slide seamlessly on a violin (the strings are too short for this), she might be increasing the slide in post-production for the music video and album.

    • @Spooky_Psyche
      @Spooky_Psyche Před 10 lety +8

    @xenagabby9501 Před 8 lety

    Those of you who are making comments like "she's missing notes" and "why didn't she tune her violin?" Let me ask you a question...how many of you have performed live? There is always criticism when it comes to live performances because many times the only argument is "it doesn't sound like the recorded version." It's not going to. In a recording studio, they do numbers of takes to make it perfect, then edit it all together with the best takes to make it sound flawless. In a live performance, you only get one shot to make it as good as you can make it.
    Now, to those of you who are saying "well she needs to stop dancing around so much and focus on playing." Do you want to just sit there and watch a violinist stand still and play? That's boring honestly. It doesn't matter how good she's playing if people start getting bored because all she's doing is standing there. This girl has heart and a genuine love for what she does, and when she gets on stage, she gives it her all. Not all of her performances will be perfect, and there will be times she messes up even her own songs. But instead of constantly criticizing, why not respect the fact that this girl rose above all odds and is an international sensation? To get where she is, she must have done something right.
    The overall point is Lindsey branded herself as the Hip-Hop violinist and a person who is different. Let her do her thing instead of having something negative to say the second a wrong note is played. Here's something else you might want to think of: she probably knows when she hits a wrong note. I mean, it's her song after all.

    people dont understand what a video and a performance is really.
    especially a unique performance like this
    a video is a presentation in the most perfect way possible; we cut parts from it, edit it, trying to make everything look perfect without flaws.
    performances is where you show what ur worth, trying to do what u do in those videos and claim that u r worth what u do, unlike some people like miley cyrus or taylor swift who cant sing live properly and still are loved by the public and claim that theyre just so good right now in their videos. one takes her tongue out 24/7, the other keeps breaking up with boyfriends that cant last a week and writes songs about them, rly people...

Yes, she misses a note here and there, but trust me.....after seeing her live in Pittsburgh a week ago, she's one HELL of a violinist. I was in awe the while time she played. AGirlCalled NAN she only plays with recordings in some parts of Europe, because they don't allow you to play without the back recording. So, she doesn't really have a choice at those times. What would you rather do, make all of this money touring the world and getting to meet the people you love, or not doing it because you're playing with a backtrack once or twice. Get to know her better, then come here and talk.

    I think Lindsey did beautifully. Playing the violin alone is really hard and requires patience, hard work, perseverance, and huge amounts of the player's time. Plus dancing. And you have to consider all conditions, like the environment which will affect the sound of the violin, the tune, practice, etc. Lindsey did amazing throughout everything not just this performance.

    Honestly, the fact she did this good is astounding. This song was written about her anorexia, of course she's gonna make mistakes. Every musician has that one song they have trouble doing live. Lindsey obviously put a lot of emotion into this song, so it's no wonder she's not as focused as you might think.

    • @DawgsRQt
      @DawgsRQt Před 9 lety +2

      +Nikkideamus Osyren Actually not really. Professional musicians make mistakes, but only in the practice room. Look up the greats, like Itzahk Perlman or Hilary Hahn-- there's not a single video of the on CZcams in which they make any major mistakes. Also keep in mind that the music that Lindsey plays is of a low intermediate level, one that most people who practice every day could probably sight read, while the music that professional violinists play is extremely complex and infinitely more difficult.

    • @Sim0nbest
      @Sim0nbest Před 8 lety

      +upbowstaccatogivesmenightmares Try to side read shatter me or zi-zi's Journey... And look at this performance, making that much movement and hitting most of the notes right is absolutely incredible. Also, the sound of the yamaha violin on the more electric mode does not sound right for everybody. It's just different.

    • @DawgsRQt
      @DawgsRQt Před 8 lety

      Simon Boland Sorry to break it to you, but the two pieces you listed are actually quite easy to sight-read. There are no complicated rhythms, very few high notes (from the samples I've seen, the highest note is a D on the e string, in third position, possibly the second easiest position on the violin), and no difficult techniques are ever needed for Lindsey's pieces. If you want to know what's difficult, look up any Paganini caprice (I'd recommend 5, one of my favorites). In Linsey's music, there's never any upbow staccato, no left hand pizzicato, no octaves, very few chords, and honestly, a middle-schooler who doesn't take lessons outside of school could play Lindsey's pieces. Point is, it's not difficult. And a performer's job isn't to hit "most of the notes." A good performer hits all of the notes and does even more.

    • @Sim0nbest
      @Sim0nbest Před 8 lety

      +upbowstaccatogivesmenightmares At the right tempo though? I must I'd be impressed to see that (Or maybe it's just that I'm really bad at reading ;-). Yes I know Paganini, and yes the technique is way more advanced in these pieces. But who are we to judge anyway? I'm just going to say I enjoy watching her twirling around doing her best. She also made countless people fall in love for the violin, which is not the case of any classical violinist these days (at least that what I think)

Lindsey you're up there among my inspirational people, and your music is beautiful art in every sense; not trying to offend, just putting in one's view on concentrating more on the violin. That is why people go see you. For your music, not just because you are beautiful in your own right.

    I don't know the originial source of this quote but it fits this performance quite well. I believe Lindsey is a talented artist but many violin players can play smoother than her even with the dancing. To be an outstanding star violinist she will have to practice for a few more years.

    There is, as a performing musician, a balance that one needs to achieve. Ask Hendrix, while playing Watchtower, to dance, jump moonwalk, play lying down....and then multiply that times 10 for a fretless instrument like a violin. I know, I play guitar and have tried violin.
    If you are a violinist, I dare you to jump up and down for 8 minutes and play a perfect rendition. If you can't, then no comments from you please; just applause for her talent.
