  • Carey chose this game, played during the Atlanta Olympics, to showcase what footy pundits have described as one of the greatest individual performances of all time.
Carey had over 30 possessions and kicked 11 goals in an amazing performance. Melbourne had no answer for him, and by the 20th minute mark were forced to put their best player David Neitz on him, but that did nothing to stop Carey single-handedly outscoring his opposition.
Had Carey not strayed up the field in the final quarter, he may very well have broken Fred Fannings 18 goal record!

I'm a Carlton man but have to say I have never seen a player consistently dominate like Carey did. Just a pleasure to watch!

Not only did he kick 11 but he dished off a few as well!
This is like most player's career highlights in a single night of footy.

mate, how good was wayne carey!? this game is a great example of not just how dominant carey could be in the air and in front of goal, but how brilliant his skills were on both sides of his body, by hand or foot and at ground level... freak

Great performance by Carey that night but was privileged to see many from him during that fantastic era. Front row, second level Ponsford stand directly behind the goals we sat, joyously watching The King at work.[Sigh].Wish we had another one.

Carey in R15 vs Ess 1993 the second half was unreal by Carey and longmire. It was the game that propelled North as we couldn't beat Ess until this match. Cracking game too. Same year vs Bulldogs away.

he took 12 contested marks in this game which is an all time record to this day. the closest anyone has ever got to this record was 10... which was also wayne carey in the 94 prelim. amazing. not sure how long contested mark stats have been record though

Not a rap for the bloke but undoubtedly most valuable player I've seen, which is saying something when we've seen the likes of Ablett Jnr and Snr, Lockett, Greg Williams, Hird, Judd and Voss (I missed Leigh Matthews' career).

Wayne Carey had 32 games with at 20 disposals and five plus goals in the same game. Seven out of eight years, he averaged 19 disposals, 8 marks and 3.2 goals per game.
