Stirs the heart of any Irish person no matter where they be throughout the world. Even the great Leonard Cohen ( amongst many others) saw fit to record this beautiful ballad. Unfortunately our own national T.V/ Radio station refuse to play these songs..Those who deny history are doomed to repeat it.

I am half Irish (Hennessy) and half Scottish (MacDonald). Born in Merseyside but I lived in the Hebrides for 20 years, but lack of employment sent me back to England....big fecking mistake!! I hate it here.... My son Tomás his girlfriend Martine from Mayo and me and an assortment of dogs and animals are relocating back to Mayo. I named my son Kevin Barry. I was 20 years old , Irish & very proud of my heritage.
So proud to be an ancestor of his... I feel so connected to my Irish heritage and cannot wait to go back to Ireland and finally meet my nanas family.... I went to Dublin on a booze weekend and felt the spiritual nature of Ireland and there's something magical about that island

It would be fun if the Irish song was sung by an Irish singer on the talent show "Britain's Got Talent". By the way, Kevin Barry was a hero but actually he wasn't that special, then most of the IRA fighters were heroes who fought for the freedom of their homeland. In any case, Kevin Barry gives a face to the resistance against the British. Because one shouldn't forget that the Irish rebel army was made up of many fighters like Kevin and they all risked death as did Kevin. But unfortunately the problem with rebel armies is fundamentally that the individual seems unimportant and disappears in the mass. But the fact is that a rebel army out of many individuals who are all willing to fight and risk their lives for the freedom of their homeland. Therefore it is important to remember not only the leaders but also simple fighters like Kevin Barry because without them the IRA would not have existed.
