So true: I feel very bad about having underappreciated her and Steps "back in the day" (yes, I did live on mainland Europe in much of their original heyday but that's a feeble excuse). Claire is DIVINE beyond belief*, and that's not to put down the other four STEPS members who are also fabulous.
* She is probably the greatest British-born singer who was born in the past eighty years (or who is still alive at present) but it's scarcely worth entering pi**ing contests like that - Ed.

90s, the last decade of legendary music
I used to laugh at cheesy pop like this when I was young, being more of a hip hop/R&B fan. I miss the shit out of it now.
Jay West I was backpacking and traveling thru Asia when this song came out. I was in South Korea and incredibly homesick at that point (i has been in Asia for a year and had just spent two months in Mongolia away from civilization). And I was in a cafe and this song came on and the music video was playing on a tv screen. I’m American so I had NO IDEA who this group was. I thought they were a euro Swedish pop group or something. And this song just shot thru me and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen because I was so homesick and it just reminded me of home. Keep in mind I was heavily into grunge at the time. But my soul just needed this shit. I ended up buying their CD 😂
Later that day, I went to a movie theater and saw Bring It On. It was the only American movie in that theater and I didn’t care if it was about cheerleaders. I just needed it LMAOOO

This is Steps at their best! Uplifting, a deceptively simple but actually perfectly-crafted pop tune with a great melody, the nice contrast in voices between the two main vocalists Faye (soft & crisp) & Claire (big & deep), a great dance routine, and iconic video and costume....Sorry if this seems overly analytical, but Steps were actually sometimes rather good!
