  • For the first 19 episodes of The Dukes of Hazzard during season 5, actors Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer, portraying Coy and Vance Duke pretended like Bo and Luke never existed. This is the story of why that happened.

I actually met "Boss Hogg", Sorrell Booke, when I was a kid. It was at, I believe, some car show, which not only did it have the General Lee, it also had Boss' white Caddy, AND K.I.T.T.!!! So, obviously Sorrell was there to sign autographs and what not. But, at one point my Mom & Dad either decided it was time to go or, we were going upstairs to see more cars, I honestly don't remember which but, since I'm in a wheelchair we had to take the elevator. And who happens to be going into the elevator at the same time? Mr. Boss Hogg himself!!! I remember he was very kind. Obviously this was before cell phones so, the only proof I have is in my memories. A very happy memory for sure!!!

Loved and be loved 4 life and Jeremy, What really caused the ratings to go down was the refusal to give John and Tom their merchandising royalty rights, people that didn't give it to them is what really hurt the show's ratings, all Byron and Chris did was carry the show and did a great job with their roles, and had some good episodes too, I enjoyed them, in fact I posted some of their episodes on my facebook page, I liked them, and like them as actors.

Hey Dave, thanks for another great video about my favorite show.
I been lucky enough to meet the entire cast except for mr. Pyle. I also have been lucky enough to get to know some of them a little more personally through the years and one of them was Byron. He is a true sport. I was privileged to get to work with him at a few shows in Canada called "Hair dare" Byron told me that both he and Chris were told to act just like John and Tom. Byron wanted to not act that way but at that time it was a pay check. Byron even admitted that their performance sucked because they were forced to act that way. He's been takeing the flack all these years very well I think. I used to believe that John and Tom just got greedy and left a few years back John was addressing a show he was at stateing it went down that they were re negotiating, Warner brothers was makeing major bank on their likeness, and the toys. All they wanted was a percentage of that income. Warner brothers got all worked up about it, stateing that they could be replaced. It was a heated argument. They called their bluff and walked. It's very sad that a company thinks their consumers are so stupid that we would'nt notice a difference. John once said in a documentary that the reason why Dukes was so good was the chemistry between the main cast. I believe he was right. It was just a perfect match of people, the car and stunts just made it just that much better.
I still cant believe the amount of hatred die hard fans have against coy and Vance. Yea I admit they sucked, but their still part of dukes history. Byron told me the scene when They were leaving in that mustang, 1st they were on a inside set, 2nd once they went off camera in the car. The scene was cut, immediately they were escorted off stage by security. Then that was it. They were on contract so they couldn't work anywhere else. He said that they might be called back in case John and Tom quit. Once they left the stage he said they have'nt seen the rest of the cast until the dukesfest shows started. Man thats cold.
Then in the early years of Dukefest back when the clubs were on forums instead of facebook. I remember a lot of people were trying to Keep Byron and Chris from comming. I'm glad things have cooled down a bit. In fact Byron made a cameo in Johns movie Christmas cars. It was really good.
    Thank you again Dave

My first band (that actually lasted 10 years), after quickly becoming home town heros, eventually found that that success was not being had anywhere else. As a result of this we often introduced ourselves (myself and our singer) as the Coy and Vance of Punk Rock..... we amused ourselves to no end with this because we had zero expectations that anyone would get it just like they weren't getting us....it was after all the early 2000s. On two occasions people did get it ( literally two people) and they became fans for life!

Let me start by thanking you sir for your all your terrific videos that bring back so many childhood memories.
I was born in 70 and television was at it's platinum era when I was coming up.
Friday nights were a BIG DEAL !!!
Me and my mom and my little brother (2 years younger) would head over to my Grandma's and Grandpa's house after stopping by Winn Dixie for the evenings "goodies" which always included popcorn that mom or grandma cooked in a covered skillet on a gas stove.
We all gathered in grandma's tv room (the third bedroom) and watched the Duke boys (everyone called the show that I knew) .
    Every. Friday. Night.
    From 9:00 to 10:00.
Then me and my brother would race off down the hallway to play.
My brother was blonde so I graciously allowed him to be Bo.
Lol...he deserved it after being stuck as Robin to my Batman all of his life.
While we would emulate Bo and Luke and sometimes Cooter, the elders would stay and intently watch J.R. and the rest of the Ewings on Dallas.
We got away with alot of mischief while Dallas was on. Lol...
Anyways, as an adult I really have to give Vance and Coy credit.
It must have been really hard to try and fill those shoes.
It was a sad day when Bo and Luke went off to race the General on the Nascar circuit.
We HATED Coy and Vance and never truly forgave THEM for Bo and Lukes absence.
Also, in our minds the loss of Enos and eventually Boss Hogg had a TREMENDOUS impact on us and the show. The only good addition we felt to the show was more and more appearances of Lulu Hogg and Flash.
    Also, we grew up.
I believe I was 7 or 8 when the show started and 13 or 14 when it ended.
It really was a magical time to be a kid though, in many ways.
Bo and Luke Duke were a HUGE part of that.
I apologise for the long comment, but as I said, your videos really take me back and again sir, thank you

    • @pancakeman3626
      @pancakeman3626 Před 4 lety

One quick update to my previous comment.
      Regarding the Incredible Hulk.
I wasn't allowed to watch that show.
It was banned from our household after I threw my little brother into an antique bookcase with actual glass in its 3, shelf covering doors.
My brother got a nasty cut on his arm (thank god that it wasn't his throat, seriously) from busting out one of those panes. I of course was emulating the Hulk.
      Ahhh....the 70s

As it was , the show runners could not get rid of them fast enough when Bo and Luke returned.

I watched the Dukes Of Hazzard because Catherine Bach being on the show. Because the Duke boys had a fast car. Thanks for providing the info for the departure and return of the Duke Boys. In the early 80's here in town in Corpus Christi, Tx. Someone had customized a car just like the General Lee. We would see it driving around town. Just that it wasn't the Duke Boys that was that was driving it. I guess they kept driving it a year or two after the show was cancelled. That car had loud glass pack mufflers. Who knows what happened to that car it looked exactly like the General Lee. Perhaps they decided to paint it a different color. 10 or 15 Yrs ago they made a movie about the Dukes Of Hazzard, but the movie didn't compare to the TV Series. Thanks Dave for sharing this wonderful video with us. It's great to have a magical moment down Memory Lane

Man she was smoking hot, even got her style of shorts named after her and I looooved those shorts on her.

Catherine wore them so well that everyone knows what "Daisy Dukes" are these days.

I liked John Schneider on Smallville too but yes in the 70s and early 80s I never missed them there Duke boys. Loved them. Also pinned up their Tiger Beat posters on my bedroom wall. 😂

Oh my Goodness I loved this show, I had a crush on both Bo and Luke and even Roscoe P. Coltrain. That is how much this Georgia girl loved this show.I used to pretend I was Daisy in the opening. All the kids played this on the play ground in 1st or 2nd grade. Thanks for the video and all the people out there nostalgic for this show.

Schneider runs a small film studio just down the road from where I live now. Great guy and does a lot for the community.

A few years later there was some kind of writers strike on "Dallas." This led to Bobby Ewing being killed and the dream season. I always called it the drama behind the drama.

@@williamhaynes7089 Barbara Billingsley would have made a better replacement over Donna Reed. Barbara Bel Geddes had an emergency quadruple bypass surgery and Donna Reed played Miss Ellie for the 1984-85 season. Donna Reed was a great actress although she was not Miss Ellie.

They should’ve at least had one adventure together. I remember as a kid being confused as to the sudden departure of the main actors.

I never did care for how they handled the departure of Coy and Vance. In the episode "Welcome Back Bo and Luke" , Coy and Vance should have departed at the end of the episode instead of the beginning. It would have been cool to see them work together against Boss Hogg and help Cooter out. Then in the last ten minutes have a good sendoff for Coy and Vance. Even though they were not as good as Bo and Luke, they were still good characters.
