  • Most UK household light switches do not have a neutral and most smart light switches require a neutral. Thankfully, no neutral smart light switchs are now becoming more widely available.

    Many people believe their smart devices are faulty. It's very likely it's just trying to connect to 5Ghz instead of 2.4Ghz which is actually quite easy to resolve.

    Alexa will recognise to say Alexa turn off A and Alexa turn off B. Thats 2 commands. Can you then assign a possible 3rd name (example C) to turn on/off both A & B? So command would go alexa turn off C and they both go off?

    You may encounter problems if you have a virtual private network (VPN) - now standard on iPhones or an app such as AVG. I think the VPN on the iPhone is okay, and unlikely to cause connection issues but apps such as AVG may cause connection problems. If you do have problems, switch it off in settings then connect your smart devices. Once connected you can switch on your VPN.

    There's no need to turn 5ghz wifi off, you can run both 2.4 & 5 at the same time.

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, that's correct. However, in some instances, the switch tries to connect to the 5ghz. No matter how many times you try to connect the switch it will not work. The only way to get it working is to turn off the 5ghz while connecting it.

      I think just making sure your phone is connected to the 2.4Ghz network is enough to solve the issue. At least that's what has worked for me.
      Maybe I've just been lucky.

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  Před 3 lety

      @@D4RKFiB3R It does depend on the proximity to the router. Most phones have a tendancy to automatically switch back to the strongest signal. So if you're close to the router, it can be a bit of a ball ache when your phone keeps switching back from 2.4 to 5GHz.

      @@D4RKFiB3R I don't think you can temporarily disable auto connect for 1 network, at least not on my phone? But I suppose you can forget connection and log back on again later?

    Hi I wonder if you can help me or maybe someone here can I only have one x 2 gang switch in my flat. I have fitted 1 gang wifi switches and had no problems at all. but in my lounge I have a 1 gang switch which is now wifi all works fine. I also have a old 2 gang switch not wifi, as cant seem to wire up the new 2gang wifi one. . in my lounge I have 2 ceiling lights. I have made some images for anyone to look at. the ceiling light marked green is operated by the 1 gang wifi switch also marked as green, and also operated by the old 2 gang left side switch also marked green. the right switch of old 2 gang marked in blue just turns on ceiling light marked blue only. Now on the 3rd image the back of the new wifi 2 gang only has L L1 & just L3 to connect wires plus a N on the left. I am waiting for a continuity meter to arrive so I can maybe find out what colour wires are from the 1 gang switch what leads to the left switch of the 2 gang here are the images of the room ibb.co/W6kMwLm ibb.co/5nQwF95 ibb.co/NSM8DBQ

    Utv thank you very much I've hunted for a no neutral smart switch video and there all so bloody confusing, yours is the one I needed, saved me 100 aud.
    One question why didn't you need to use the capacitor ?

    • @UTILITARIANTVUK
      @UTILITARIANTVUK  Před 3 lety +1

      Glad the video helped. The capacitor is only needed if you get flickering. It depends on the light fitment and bulbs. If it's a modern non dimmable bulb, the majority of the time, the capacitor isn't required.
