Interesting video, I've wanted to try copper plating since I saw Atomic Shrimp's attempt that he documented on his website 👍
I think most "normal" metals will plate OK, even the aluminium seemed to make an effort, but the magnesium seemed to be too reactive, so the copper didn't bond to the surface.
I've seen the videos where an item is placed in a solution gained by electrolytic do-hickey, and then place material to be plated/coated and the soldered, but I do think that a higher voltage for a bit longer may be the way.
