  • Two flappers were murdered within a year of each other under similar circumstances. Both were performers and beloved among the societies they associated with. Who killed Lou Lawson and Dot King?

WOW! I first heard about Dot King's murder about 50 years ago in a book I checked out of the library about notorious murders. I could not remember her name, but I still remember her lovely face.

Oh man! I can't believe I just stumbled upon this channel. About three minutes in and I hit subscribe. This was really nicely done and great story telling. Great images and your voice lends so much to the narrative sequences. Plus I've never heard of these murders and I love the 1920s through the 1940s.

Just came across your video. I was horrified at first to discover that I Iive in Louise’s apartment. Now I like to think of her as my guardian angel.

$75 dollars a week in 1920 is the same as $1100.00 a week today. So $500 was the equivalent to around $7000 a week today. But to say that $75 a week wasn’t a living wage then is kinda false. A new car was $900. The average person house was $3000 to $5000. Rent was $26 a month for a above average apartment. Bread was a nickel. Milk under a dime a gallon. So you get get my drift. At $75 a week in 1920 she was doing really well.

    - (Lou) Six years to a Broadway cast of any kind, not to mention Ziegfeld? Even by today's standards (which usually means little or _NO_ kind of talent whatsoever without at least knowing someone), that's pretty impressive for her! I know that even back then they had some pretty nasty types that held the strings to fame, but a girl who knew people, AND let these people know that she had a nurtured cultural art entertainment talent from childhood as that young lady did - COULD actually go far - in time - when someone got around to noticing it... Like you said though, Broadway and the NYC entertainment industry was, and continues to be fickle! So, our girl switched gears, and that's where she paid the price!
    - (Dot) Born in the Big Apple, she probably knew the score already, and those with looks whom rubbed shoulders with big shots of a certain caliber (excuse the pun) were the ones that often got "bumped up in the line", so to speak... She also was probably more aware of the possible consequences as well... A shame both girls met that end, but that was also life in the Big Apple back in the roaring 20s...
    Subscribed, by the way...

Louise Lawson was born in Alvarado Texas not Walnut Springs. The family moved to Walnut Springs after her birth. She was buried in Alvarado.

Really puzzled by your comments at the end painting these women as some sort of paragons. These were criminals/paid escorts. They didn't deserve to be murdered but they are exactly the kind of person who are putting themselves in circumstances where they can be victimized. Otherwise, your presentation was interesting and entertaining.
