I know most people troll in the comments, but honestly Gotham you’ve been a huge inspiration on my chess journey. I’m about to go play Community Chess at my local community center for the first time, and I would never have done that if your videos hadn’t been recommended to me
I hated chess for years. Then I saw Levy's videos in my recommended and they changed my impression of the game and it made me really love the game

One of the best Videos u ever made. So much inside in your strength and weaknesses. Seeing yourself being discouraged by being confronted with your mistakes and troubles. Your inner fight was so apparent…As well as your will to fight. Go on and show the world how weak you can be and you will come back as a stronger player…Congrats for this first step. U wont get outa here!!!!

It's really interesting that training at the IM/GM level is so different. They're not looking at tactics or preparation, they're looking at strategy above and beyond particular games. Profound tactics come like basic algebra to a college level math student. This is so cool.
And the way it shows on Levy's face at 20:30 his realization that it's as much emotional intelligence as it is intelectual intelligence or memory. I relate a lot, Levy. Keep it up, the video for the first GM norm will break youtube
I also really enjoyed watching this, it's very instructive and I can apply a lot of that stuff also to my games, even though I'm not as strong as you are. Keep it up and don't let haters bring you down.

I have been following your content for about 3-4 years now and would like to say, in my opinion, this is one of the best videos you have ever made. It is great to see your process and learn alongside you how to analyze and how to approach analyzing games and positions.
To be honest I am not a big fan of content like GTE and when that was popular I drifted away from your page. But now that there is more content like this and how to win I drifted back. I truly wish you luck on your journey to GM and absolutely believe that if you decide to properly go for it you will succeed.

Adding the coach's comments is the best thing for this series I think. I never had professional help with chess but this video helped me realize another side of chess.

Yes, we want more of this! I certainly do, at least - I found myself super invested all the way through! GM Neiksans seems like a great coach, and it was really interesting hearing his thoughts on your games and especially your psychology.

This is EXTREMELY helpful content. Not too many GMs are sharing their training regiment, or discussing GM-level advice in a way that's understandable to viewers. Your greatest strength as a content creator has always been your ability to break down high level chess into straightforward concepts - and this is EXACTLY that.

Coach Arturs seems to be the perfect coach for Levy - empathetic, motivating and insightful. He also tells him what he doesn't want to hear (sacrifices). The number of nay sayers is probably a very small fraction of those rooting for him. The loudest of them all however is Levy's own inner voice. I hope his self talk improves significantly and he's able to overcome his biggest weakness to be able to achieve his goal of becoming a GM.
Also, he got IM at 18 and GM at 28, so he has already showed it can be done.
I love the road to gm videos. I think they are extremely entertaining and I've always enjoyed listening to how people think because everyone thinks through a situation differently

Honestly, you deciding to come back to competetive chess has given me the motivation to pick it back up and start trying to up my elo again, i gave up a year or so ago due to feeling burnt out but seeing you get back in and makes me want to work hard again and try reach a high elo
What was your highest elo just wondering I’m only 1174 but I play just to have a competitive game not so much for elo I know defeating higher rated players raises the elo what rating will you feel ok with

I like this content, Levy. I am a classical musician. Been a conductor for about ten years. I love this type of analysis not only of the games but of the mindset. I read this book called Psycho-cybernetics. Part of the book refers to the mental block people have when chasing goals. Many pitchers couldn't cross 90 mph or something. They changed the framing of their thinking, and suddenly a ton of pitchers in that group started crossing that mark. I think Levy could benefit from that mental work.
More work on actually playing more chess even coach says so
I don't see how changing mental thinking about crossing 90mph would change anything. I dont believe a single pitcher thinks about it, when there's so many other more important things going on during the match and the throw.
In practice, sure, you can isolate for one thing and try going for record speeds, and if you overthink it, then sure, it can become a hindrance. But over all, i think that BS.
I looked up the book, and yeah, it's one of those wrong self help books from the 60's...
@@fobusasI’m not sure how young you are, but the mindset can be a huge factor in athletic performance - and even more so for mental tasks and sports like chess. There’s a lot of BS self help stuff out there, but having the growth mindset and reframing can be literally life changing. Also, the task was throwing over 90 mph - at least according to the comment. It’s helpful to focus on one specific thing at a time.

This is so good Levy. It's great to see you model how to be a good student. So many people struggle to learn because they don't know how to listen to someone talk about their weaknesses and areas for growth. Seeing you bite your tongue and thoughtfully consider what was being said at the start is such a powerful thing to model and something we can all learn from - not just in chess but in life in general.

IMHO this type of content is significantly more interesting than the normal beginner-level chess reviews and whatnot that you make. I know that stuff might get you more views, but I would really appreciate if you posted more of these GM lessons so we can see how to analyze our own strengths and weaknesses

this is my favorite video you've released in years. it's fun to both see your progression towards becoming a GM and to see the sorts of things a GM coaching session contains. I learned a lot about how to both analyze positions, and think about how I play chess overall. Would love to see more of this content

This type of content is my favorite kind. Watching you do well and/or get better is always most interesting.
You talked with Arturs about something I have always wondered when he mentioned not seeing repeated positions. I’ve always wondered if the approach of identifying your opponent’s strengths and then trying to pick a line to surprise them so no one knows what is happening is the best option. I’m not qualified to have an opinion, but in the video it sounded like you both came to the same conclusion that trusting your opening knowledge and believing you are equal or superior from an opening perspective is something you can implement.

P.S. as a math teacher myself, you wouldn't imagine how helpful it is, from time to time, when in self-doubt, to let my very students (who btw think i am a genius) assess my proceedings, even if inadvertently on their part, and this always, always reminds me that my shortcomings are just human fuel for any outstanding performance (aka new heights) i wish to reach. Hope this is relatable, from someone who only took up chess in their thirties.

Mad respect for sharing this. Very useful for us to see. I’ve been in similar meetings where someone was picking me apart, and I would not put it on the internet. Definitely takes some stones, especially when you know how some of the numpties in the audience will react.
GM Neiksans' evaluation and identification of your three faults is spot-on. I think your viewers can also see these in your play. I like that he is straight to the point and doesn't sugarcoat. I hope you continue to post your coaching sessions and your progress toward GM (and maybe post less of other content per coach's advice).

I enjoyed this video. Liked having the different chapters with different styles of content. Also enjoyed seeing Gotham get told the same things he keeps telling the viewers during the first part (not worrying about what the opponent wants and look for checks, captures and attacks, :)). This is by far my favourite series. I am super invested. I think you sharing and exploring your weaknesses shows great strength! Especially this video where you start to focus and get into the details. Keep it up Levy. It doesn't even matter to me how this pans out, it's the journey that I think is the most important.

Tbh, he doesn’t look that engaged. It’s a big commitment. And it this point in his life, he actually may not have the time to commit. And honestly, does he really want the stress? He’s already a made man and pretty wealthy. I hope he goes for it. But I’m not sure his heart is in it. It causes him insane anxiety. His body chemistry may not be up to the task.
