NJ Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald has his work cut out for him.

Fitz did really well. He obviously tried to get Stammer and Marchy but they either wanted more money or term than Fitz wanted to give. That tells me he isn't done yet and still looking to make a trade or 2 if possible. You also have to remember that even with a beat up roster (especially Dougie missing basically the whole year and Hughes missing so many games) and historically bad goaltending, the Devils were in a playoff race until the trade deadline. They just got much meaner and harder to play against without breaking the bank.

Colton White was a really good signing, I’m alittle biased because I played on the same team with him a couple years growing up but in my opinion he’s the best stay at home defence man we have the iq he has is off the charts, he’s a defence first guy old school devil player type I think this year he’s going to have a career year, John Madden in 03 playoffs too was a Monster such a good two way player

Hey, Joe, despite your horrendous takes on some moments like Toffoli signing, Ruff and many others including Stamkos at 8M i fully agree on your thoughts about Fitzgerald. In fact i said many times here and other Devils related channels what you said about his tenure last night. He has done nothing! Shero was fired for doing a better job and drafting way better than Fitzgerald. I said yesterday he gets B- for this off-season. The main issue which was the D is addressed. I'll give it to Fitzgerald. He did a good job there. Goalies - he did ok too. He partially renewed the bottom 6. But, the two important spots left unanswered. The team is missing a sniper on a top 6 Left Wing. There is not a single sniper on a team at the moment! Mark my words you all! Our PP will struggle without him. Our top 6 without big winger is still SMALL and f...g SOFT!! And he still has not addressed 3C! Is Haula or Cotter the answer? Gimme a f..g break!!! And of course the return on Holtz is the result of Fitzgeralds and Ruffs publicly bashing a player! The team is better than going into a season last time but only just. So how the F can Fitzgerald get anything higher than a B-. You dont sign Macdermid and trade Siegenthaler and it is 5M you can spend. Here is you Marchessault!!!! I told you ,Ace, we will miss on a big player because of Macdermid. Here we are!!! Tarasenko! Hi is a downgrade on Marchessault! It could've been A grade off-season!! The team will be competing for a playoff spot but I'm not sure it makes it. All I know the Devils are still miles away from the Stanley Cup and with Fitzgerald will never get there. Once again, he did ok yesterday but could've been much better.
@sst6601 Oh that Toffoli signing.....We all know you despise Fitz more than anyone. Joe may be 2nd place. I gave Fitz a B, so we are not far off with the grades. Who even knows if Fitz/the Analytics Department like Tarasenko?!? I do not think we are nearly as far away as you believe.

The difference in salary for Stampkos between New Jersey (State income tax) and Nashville (No state income tax) is about $820.000 for $8MM per-season. Now x4, that is a crap ton of money that he saves going to the Predators
@Dirks_NUMA_Files It is BS how much of an advantage these no state income tax teams have! It must be one of their MAIN sales pitches.

Maybe the Devils will trade Dougie Hamilton, Nathan Bastian, Nico Daws, Nolan Foote, a 2025 conditional 2nd-rounder, and a 2026 1st-rounder to the Senators for Brady Tkachuk and trade Jake Allen, Ondrej Palat, Arseni Gritsyuk, Seamus Casey, a 2025 conditional 6th-rounder, and a 2026 5th-rounder to the Jets for Connor Hellebuyck, so next season, Connor and Jakob Markstrom will form the one of the best goalie tandems the Devils have ever seen since Martin Brodeur and Chris Terreri.

Angry Stanley Tucci talking about wanting the team to be better top to bottom, but he's hyper focused on the top 6 and loss of Toffoli. The top 6 took a minor step back while the defense and goaltending have improved dramatically; We lost goals with Toffoli, but we gained goal prevention. The team is already 1000% better than last year's team, Toffoli or not, and it takes the whole roster to win the cup, not just the top 6. Anything less than 1 playoff series win should land Fitz on the hot seat
@salvatoredibrita1028 I agree. If we score 25 less goals but give up 60 less, that is a WIN! The team is much improved and I am pumped for the season

Fitz said 'big games hunting" not "big games signings". Huge difference. He never guaranteed anything like you suggest. He DID 100% hunt for big names but they simply decided to sign elsewhere. You can never fault a GM for that so it's not really fair IMO to frame it that he failed to do what he said. Cause he didn't.
@steriodesign He meant BIG NAMES when he said BIG GAME HUNTING. It was never a guarantee, but it was a slogan he said. He may have tried to get some big name guys, but did not. Therefore the BIG GAME HUNTING was a fail. I think most people share this sentiment. Overall I am happy with the improvements. We will be a much better team next season.
@@runninwiththedevils Personally and respectfufully I really don't think that's a fair way to assess what he said and did. He said he'd go after big names and he did. He never said he'd get them. If you go "hunting" for deer or god knows what. It doesn't mean you're coming back with anything necessarely. For fans who took this as a guarantee that he'd sign one of the big name or got too excited. That's 100% on them. We know better than this when it comes to free agency. It's also better that he didn't sign those contracts they got cause it would have been real bad long term anyway
@steriodesign You're getting caught up on semantics. However you want to slice it, he lead fans to believe he was going to make some big moves. Period. He did not. I was initially disappointed. I still am, but it has subsided some what. It is our own faults for hanging our expectations on this. Overall, I am happy with what we did. There are many that want blood still.
Really expected either of the following, Rico,stammer ,March ,Z, necas, any of those guys would have been an upgrade from holtz. Rico would have slotted in the third line nicely so he wouldn't be the top six but any of those other guys aside from z of course . Again, I am happy we got the guys we did get, but I still think one more big name up front would have been real nice because right now our top six still lacks a little bit of firepower from my opinion. Sure. We've got Hughes and brat and teemo, but the other guys are more two-way. I love Nico but he's not a big point getter and when I say big point, I'm referring to consistently 85 or higher. Granted I love Nico and we need him. He is in my opinion one of our best forwards on the team all around so I'm not dogging him
@Heytherebuds The team is definitely improved. I would love to see it improved some more. Nico is one of the best two way players in the league.
I really want tarasenko, we should get him maybe 3 years at 3.5 mil per year

@Adam_Seiltz96 I may knock him down a peg, but maybe not. The reality is, we did get better EVERYWHERE other than the Top 6. So the Top 6 takes a hit, but the GOALTENDING, DEFENSE, BOTTOM 6 all get better. I think overall we are a much better team. But I can see you dropping him to the B-. I just think he did enough to still warrant the B. But I am disappointed on the Top 6 whiff......and this presser sends the wrong message IMO

That’s the BS Fitz has sold us. I mean how do u miss out on Henrique for 3 for 2 seasons Center / Wing with some finish? Smh our prospects are depleted no where to go to get more kinda disappointed who is the second line wing? So now we are missing scorers when last year we had no lock down D or goalie? We shuffled the stink elsewhere. Can’t say we are going to trade for someone because we have nothing to trade. Fitz you failed. Should have went zadorov instead of Pesce nasty mean and can score smh
Reports were that he wwnteed to go back to the oilers and he took less to go there
