My parents live in Makry Gialos all year round for over 17 years now. It's getting quieter off season but still a great place to be. You find everything you need there. Also, it's only 26 km away from Ierapetra which is the next bigger town around to the west or Sitia to the north-west which is approximately the same distance away. If you looking for a piece of heaven but still with the opportunity to socialize and meet interesting people then you should give it a try. I'd recommend to look for a place to rent first. There are lots of opportunities to do so and it's actually not expensive it all.

      Hello,
      thank you for your message.
To be honest I do not know.
I am sure it is and you can find somewhere lovely to live but most of the tavernas and bars will be closed but maybe a few still open. It won’t be “closed closed” for sure but it won’t be as you have seen in my videos.
I live near many tourist villages and the winter time is my best time, you will always find accommodation and food it’s just depends what you are looking for but that busy “summer” vibe won’t be there.
For me anywhere in Crete is beautiful in the winter, if not the best time.
Please feel free to ask me anything but it is only my opinion others may have different 🥰

Thank you so much for getting back to me.
Well I divorced in 2010 and went straight on to looking after my late parents who I have now lost in the last 3 years, so life never really started again. I am an author and a music journalist, so now looking for that piece of heaven in the Mediterranean because I can do what I do anywhere. Just simply looking at downsizing to free up a heap of money in the house, and only spending a small amount to achieve the golden visa, so e250,000 plus, and move to Greece and step off the pulse. I hear its easy to do so, but is it , and either way , what's the best way to do this ?
