The famous Indian "head bobble" is widely known around the world. But why do Indians bobble their heads so often? Do they even know that they’re doing it? We hit the streets of Mumbai to find out.
The opinions expressed in this video are those of individual interviewees alone and do not reflect the views of ASIAN BOSS or the general Indian population.
Special thanks to our Asian Boss team in Mumbai.

The head wobbling differs from state to state. Even from district to district. My husband's home is located in another district of Kerala. Which is 60km away. When they see some familiar person or say bye they used to wobble the head like- chin comes to the chest. Initially after marriage once my mom in law wobbled to me like that, I thought she meant"come here" & I went 😂. Later I recognized she was saying bye

But there is nowhere written we have 33 million gods. We have 3 major diety Brahma vishnu and mahesh and all others are part of them like Shri ram and shri krishna are avatar of vishnu etc. If you have noticed that we worship nature as a devta like surya dev agni dev etc. Yes you are right hinduism was not even religion before kalyuga. Actually if you go deep you will find that everything is very scientific for eg that 9 avataar of vishnu represents darwin theory of human evolution. Rishis were scientists and doctors of that time. They were very developed. Hinduism promotes moksha. There are many types. Like you can believe in god but you do not prefer idol worshipping then you are nirgun Brahman (here brahman does not refere any cast) . You dont believe in god then you can be atheist hindu. Many rishis in olden times were atheist. Actually there is freedom of opinions in Hinduism unlike other religions. But we definitely don't have 33 million gods. No one can name them. That is biggest misconceptions people use to defame our religion.

I think most of Indians pick this up from schools. I remember back during the school days, if a teacher was explaining something and you don't wobble or shake your head, they interpret it as us not paying attention.
So we involuntary make it a habit growing up.

In Japan a common phrase "Ba no Kuuki wo Yomu" is very important. It means understanding the situation without words.
It is quite prevalent in many asian countries.
The head bobble is kind of an extension of that. It is used in day to day life where you express yourself without the use of any words.
The vagueness it creates is what the speaker is aiming for.
For example when you ask your father "Dad can I go to the school trip, it's 1300km away"
Your father may bobble his head, and you may interpret it as either 'yes' or 'no'.
Your father's actual response may change as the time passes and technically he won't be going back on his words as his response earlier was vague and you interpreted it wrongly.
