"It's G.I Joe against Cobra and Destro."
*Destro
@@toxiclightning5303 I changed it

I kept thinking I had remembered it wrong after all these years...

"Knowing is half the battle!"
"What's the other half?"
"Fucking red lasers and blue lasers."

Let me catch my Breath !! These GiJoe Intros are more exciting then any movie that Hollywood puts out now !!!
American & Japanese collaboration in animation was a force to be reckoned with back then.
So that's why I am getting Transformers vibes unfortunately we didn't get this show in the UK likely dubbed too violent too bad it looks awesome will have to check it out if I can.

I was always either Shipwreck or Alpine.
Even as a kid, I always felt a sort of kinship with the bad guys. I played as Cobra Commander almost all the time.
@@samcarter565 As a bad guy, I loved playing as Dr. Mindbender. As a Joe, mine was Quick Kick or Spirit. I wished I had a pet eagle like my other friend who had a parrot and played Shipwreck.
Best part of gi joe movie intro when duke fly's the stars n stripes to the top of lady liberty
You’re not wrong :-)
Amen to that! It just shows the kind of guy Duke is just like when he returns Cobra’s bomb to them! And it shows why even for not being among the original thirteen in the toys, Duke has been one of the most quintessential Joes.
The movie intro was the best one!
That song had 2 verses and it even sounded like they threw in a chord change when they say "GI Joe is there". Really a music masterpiece. Also they made sure to say "over land and sea and air" whereas the tv series just says "over land and air"... haha amazing
It sure is and reminds us how Sunbow went the whole nine yards to show that G.I. Joe the Movie was next level in terms of scale and animation
That GI Joe Movie intro hits different now that I'm older...Legendary!!!
Damn straight. Had to show my son what real cartoons were when I came up than this SpongeBob garbage

Rock on, bro! 🤘🇺🇸
Watching this made my eyes wet 🥺😢. I miss the 80’s (early 80’s), I miss my era. “Yo Joe”!!!!!!
I was in 6th grade when the first GI Joe Cartoon premiered and was in 11th grade when GI Joe The Movie came out.Great times!! Yo Joe!!!!
Amazing animation! What incredible memories I have of watching Joe every weekday after school at 4pm. A show with intelligent writers, that didn't pander to children. I learned all sorts of new words like oblivion, fortuitous, etc. Cobra Commander was very well read. Lol!
@eric Meyers… Also they didn’t dumb down the plot and content. They actually respected the intelligence of kids and their ability to comprehend sophisticated things like economic warfare, which was in an episode where Cobra was trying to destroy the American economy in an episode. What kid shows today would ever consider that?
I like how Destro is mentioned in the first into but was dropped after that
As I recall Destro was a really new character as of the first series. I guess they were really pushing him.
@@StormsongK They were all new characters when the show first released.
@@suchiuomizu Well, my point was Destro wasn't one of the original lineup. Even Cobra Commander wasn't introduced with the first set of figures.
@@StormsongK
Destro was one of the first mail-in figures after Cobra Commander and Duke. Hasbro wanted a big deal made about him. Like Duke a Cobra Cmdr, Destro went on regular sale later the same year. Except of the personnel card that was cut specifically to fit in the shipping package and was one sided as well, there was no real difference between the Mail-in figures and the regular sales figures.
GIJoe was used pretty heavily to sell the toys. many episodes were written and debuted almost specifically to effectively advertise any new toys. This did get them in a lot of trouble and seriously altered how cartoons in the US could approach a very necessary revenue stream, the advertising and sale of toys or other paraphernalia associated with the show. As a result we don't get the variety of shows we used to as only big companies like Disney can afford to bankroll new cartoons, and even then they are seriously budget constrained because if they overtly sell any toys based on the show or movie, then that very slim but extremely vocal subset of social media will lose its collective hivemind.
Destro was kinda positioned as a third party supplier who supported Cobra's ideologies but not methodology. He eventually is made to be an all-in cog of the organization, but a bit of his independence is always part of his character.
I remember I was counting the days for the debut of this on TV and I was so excited coming home from school. My heart was beating so fast when the intro started! haha
Mann i miss those days

As a kid I always thought Duke was the quintessential American serviceman. When he grabs the American flag off the ground and raises it at the top of the Statue of Liberty, still gives me goosebumps as an adult!
Me to. I always get that chill and that warmth in my heart when I see the Flag and hear the theme song.
gawd bless AmeriKKKa...thank the indians for this land.
@@pepitotoro596 We do, every 4th Thursday of November. 👍🏻
Michael Bell, who played Duke, is very very aware of this. He’s a funny guy with a shockingly raunchy sense of humor, but he got real serious talking about all the grown men and women who have told him that Duke inspired them to join the military.
(Also, being told to “stand up straight, soldier!” in THAT voice was pretty cool.)
Plus what makes Duke so cool is how he inspires respect from even higher ranked brass even when he’s just a First Sergeant. It shows the kind of man he is and what kind of leader he is as well
Man, I feel so sorry for kids today because of the cartoons they're stuck with. Especially the boys.
Destro should fire his agent, they cut his name from the song!
I'm sure he will.
I always thought the original OP was the one saying "Cobra the Enemy" then was changed to "Cobra and Destro" because Destro was a breakout character.

Ahh back in then good old days when cartoons weren't afraid to show extreme violence and explosions to sell a toyline, but nooooo now we have parental soccer moms crying apeshit over cartoon violence.
Extreme violence? Did you ever watch any of these cartoons? Literally no one ever died, and they made it a point to make sure you knew it.
@@redcomet_622 I know, I was meaning to reply to Raul
What do you mean "not afraid to show extreme violence?" You say that as if modern cartoons don't show worse violence. One of the best examples I can think of is Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which frequently showed clones dying in horrible ways.
@@MrWrongoStarr Season 2, they stopped showing parachutes when a plane would get shot down and they said the words, 'kill, dead" etc.

GI Joe is the reason i went to the army from June 2003 to December 2007
I've met dozens, if not a hundred+ veterans that served because of G.I. Joe. The U.S. government should subsidize the brand as a recruiting tool!
It made me go Army also.
@@3djoes It likely WAS used as a great propaganda tool by the U.S government to bolster the number of volunteers who join the U.S military and it worked well until the WOKE crowd arose and messed things up.
And no damage to the Statue of 🗽. G I Joe is that damn good lol
These were a co-production of Sunbow and Marvel.
DairuggerXV I'm aware of that. But this cartoon was 'produced' by Sunbow/Marvel and NOT just Sunbow. (It didn't help that Sunbow on it's own had the distribution rights before TV Loonland and Sony got them). If anything it's probably Sunbow that worked closely with Hasbro, while Marvel provided the out sourced Asian contacts for the animation to be made overseas, since Marvel and Toei had a good working relationship since the 1978 tokusatsu adaptation of Spider-Man.
DairuggerXV That won't happen. There is no demand nor interest for that sort of thing.
All of you are wrong gi Joe is property and trademarked by Hasbro toie animation is Japanese marvels studio's doesn't own the show either
@Rodolfo A Now that is a GREAT idea. I'd like to see them incorporate the original, brilliant, Douglas/Walsh background musical themes and also keep the spirit of the original Toei animation as well.
Definitely my favorite cartoon growing up.
I AM NOT CRYING!
God I miss this era 😕 #GIJOE🇺🇸
Good thing I've watched the Snake Eyes movie to watch this series
Come on guys. As a 1980 baby, GiJoe was life. Yeah we Nintendo or Sega, but did u play for hours ? I didnt. I did have elaborate battles and ambushes from my kitchen to living room with my Joes/Cobra.
I was fortunate enough to get the Flagg for Christmas in 87. But I was to young to appreciate it. 88 89 90 I was really into GiJoe. Now watching these videos and toy reviews brings back great memories. I hope someone in Chicago has my USS Flagg on display.
WAUK-TOWN! YO JOE! ❤

Oh, 80s how much I miss you.
"COBRA! RETREAT! RETREAT!" - Chris Latta as Cobra Commander.
you can't say they didn't fill every second of screentime with as much action as possible.
The storyboard artists are the stuff of legends! Be sure to search for Debriefed Larry Houston and you’ll see an interview with one of them. He storyboarded the whole movie intro, which is the best 5 minutes of G.I.Joe animation ever.

This week, I found out that Stanford University wants to ban the word "American" because they find it "offensive." Thank GOD I grew up in a time my own country didn't hate itself like it does now under these lunatics in "leadership." My kids will be raised on the stuff I was raised on. 100% AMERICAN, 100% awesome! A major tip of the hat to those Japanese animators who drew a lot of it.

Stanford and whatever school bans it are idiots for not teaching our student to love our imperfect yet still a good country that only us can make it better.
Ahh back in the days that cartoons taught a generation that it was good to be patriotic and to fight back against those that want to take away freedom.
