The Doors - Interview with Robby Krieger 2007

  • The Doors were the first band I WORSHIPPED. As soon as I was introduced to them when I was 13, I became OBSESSED with them, so meeting Robbie Krieger, in the band's offices (before being presented an honorary Grammy in 2007) was a monumental deal for me. Forgive me for completely fanning out. Robby talks about the genesis of 'L.A. Woman' around 7 min, and dealing with the loss of Jim Morrison around 18 min.

You're looking at and listening to one of the greatest guitar players in modern music history! Robby Krieger is extremely talented and unique in his playing style and sound. He can be copied but never duplicated!
He's very versatile in his playing. You will hear these styles in playing, blues, rock and roll, psychedelia, hard rock, flamenco, classical, funk, soul, and fusion jazz.
Not to mention that he's also a genius songwriter.
Robby Krieger is still jamming live and in the studio taking his art to the next level in the present day. His albums today are mature and eclectic. I highly recommend them!
May God bless my friend and musical hero, Robby Krieger.

Ray, Robbie, and John loved Jim sooo much that it is evident in their presence all these yrs later. Jim was death bound, but if he would have realized how much his mates loved him, he mighta eased of the bottle a bit. Living with the sadness of no more magic music with Jim, has been difficult (with the exception of An american Prayer lp).

    • @RCSouza-nv2tp
      @RCSouza-nv2tp Před 4 lety +4

@wildcatter63 Every time that Robby talks about Jim's death in interviews, he looks very sad. He looks the saddest of the three. I think that he really suffered quietly during many years. I've seen two pictures from different times in which Ray, Robby and John pose with a photo of Jim. In the two pictures, who is holding the photo is Robby.

@wildcatter63 Robby also said in interviews that Jim had not said to them a goodbye, and that he thought that not having the opportunity to go to Jim's funeral was something weird. I believe that these quotes reveal his pain.

But Jim had 2 notebooks full of songs (Poems) before they even started. The Beatles made so much great music, but for me it was the Doors!
Like many others, I was a little young to fully understand their music when it was first released, but I caught on a few years later.
Four very intelligent guys EACH providing their own secret ingredient to the mix, taken from many different styles of music. In later years, it was immensely interesting watching interviews with Ray, Robbie and John describe how the whole process came about.
Perhaps my only complaint with some of these interviews is that I wish they were not so amateurish, technically ... sound levels, lighting, camera angles and movements, etc.

Nice interview, Ann-Marie. Robbie is a fun guy to meet, and he seemed to really enjoy your interview. I had the pleasure of chatting with him at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, CA. back in the 90s when he played with Eric Burden of the Animals. Jim Morrison was a cousin of my friend, Rob Fritzenkotter, in San Diego where Jim's parents lived. Jim's dad was an admiral in the Navy. Robbie and John Densmore went to University High School in West Los Angeles, about a block from where I lived while going to UCLA. Ray Manzerek and Jim met at UCLA film school. Robbie took some classes at UCLA, too. Small world. Thanks again for the classy interview.

"THE DOORS" are a great example of how a good rock band gets things done and not waste a lot of time, there is not one bad song
or album. they knew how to make great music and it takes a lot of ppl to make it fly, it is not easy to get centred enough all the time
but "THE DOORS" KNEW HOW TO REALLY WORK TOGETHER. study this band. they could have kicked butt even further if things were different. Robbie is a great guitarist with a very unique sound.

But man, Robbie Krieger man listen to this and his other interviews, he's so fucking real. Don't lie, not about money, and till this day when you think how they hammered out epic album after album, at the rate more than one a year. Most bands can't even keep their members after 4 years. Robbie Krieger just is so humble, so honestly all the members just loved the dude despite all his issues. I could, and would listen to every interview of all these guys.

I DONT THINK ANY ONE ELS COULD HAVE
PLAYED THE GUITAR OR THE OREGON EXCEPT RAY AND ROBBY TO MAKE THE DOORS AS BIG AS THEY GOT AND STILL ARE, IT TOOK ALL FOR OF THEM TO MAKE THE DOORS THE GUITAR WORK IN WHEN THE MUSIC'S OVER TAKES YOU SOME PLACE DARK AND DEEP AND TIMELESS, IF THAT SONG CAME OUT TODAY OR IN 1970 OR WHEN EVER IT CAME OUT YOU WOULD NOT BE ABEL TO PUT A TIME TO IT BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT,
NOTHING , I LOVE THE DOORS.
