- Extracts from a studio recording of "You and Me" a pre-school series which had several incarnations, this one with puppets Cosmo and Dibs. Includes fluffs and retakes. Recorded in October 1984. Although probably noone in the audience knew it, it was made by the Schools Department at the BBC rather than the Children's Department.

Ive met Gary Wilmot, such a lovely man and very friendly, he really was someone I loved meeting and having my picture taken with him.
Awww the memories.
I used to watch this as a kid. I always loved the opening.
it makes me laugh how they still continue the puppettry even when they mess up. "I'm sorry" "It's all right Gary"
The way they just open their mouths and just look at the screen makes me crack up.
I love things like this, I'd love to see more! Retakes and humorous mistakes!
I always love seeing bloopers from children's TV shows because they often involve the actors breaking character and swearing - something you'd definitely NOT expect to see on a children's show!
HHHHHAAAHA!!! my jaw just dropped when Dibbs called Gary a wanker!!! i had to rewind and listen again coz i thought id miss heard lmao
I don't remember so much swearing or my Mummy would not have wanted me to watch it! :-D
I like the bit where Dibs trys to eat the Wilmot.
I didn't know Cheryl Cole did the voiceover lol
Hilarious! Great to see them recording this and yes the bit where Dibs calls Gary a wanker is funny! I loved seeing how they kept doing retakes of this!
This is the You and Me I remember, Reggae soundin' Mon
man ive had this tune stuck in my head for years and couldnt remember what it was off!! nuff thanks for the upload =]
I vividly remember the ep when they brought out a dead pet hamster/gerbil?. Plz tell me someone else remembers this. Imagine that on current kids TVs shows "what have you got in your bag mr tumble?" "Well"
Ah I did look for the clip at the time but it wasn't on CZcams, at least not then.....I may do a more general Google search later to see if it's anywhere else online
i remember it well.
Was it a real dead one, or did they just use a model? I can remember that episode vaguely and it was a bit distressing
Gary Wilmot = Legend
What a fascinating and important piece of history. I was riveted throughout.
Remember watching this when off school back in da days lol
This is even better when you're stoned, trust me - johny retro!
Never noticed how downtrodden Dibs' character was when I was young
I also remember the UB40 theme very well and most of the presenters, who included Liz Smith and Mike Grady (Barry in Last of the Summer Wine). I always remember the sections with Henry the Kangaroo looking for the signs in his book, and talking to the girl called Ellie. There was one episode where the kangaroo went to the girl's house and had tea with her.
That was lovley. Thanks. :)
i wish more clips would be uploaded. im pretty sure i used to watch this and it would have been late 80s and early 90s when i did. it took cosmos distinctive geordie accent to jog my memory haha she was like a cross between cherly cole and marge simpson.
wow brings back memorys
LOL , I love this!
I remember seeing some of an episode of this in Punjabi on BBC2
This shattered my illusion of 32 years, LOL. It was a great show though.
this was fav kid show.... memories :-)
dear lord -i remember watching this show in primary school
You and me, me and you - Classic!
One box of FUCKING LETTUCES
Childhood memories
Brilliant
It's a Tyne Tees accent. I don't know why she made the voice so raspy.
Wonder why this sounded like UB40? Because UB40 wrote and performed the theme!
UB40 did not write the theme tune to You and me they just re made it. t is the same words and music used in the original 70's version of the show .
Oldfielddesciple the instrumental is an old reggae dub & was used by the clash for "bankrobber" I believe
@@garybrown8117 , its not even the same chords, or the same sounds, the only similarity is they are both reggae style!
This is so funny and I love hearing Dibs calling Gary a wanker! I also liked to hear Jeni saying fuck, I always watched You and Me in the 80s and it is hilarious hearing them swear, as well as Dibs biting Gary's hand
great memories. cosmo didnt make a single mistake!
This should go on an out tke tv show! LOL! Its so funny! Especially when Dibs swears!
The biting.
>lmao
Schools Department - makes sense. That explains why we sometimes got to watch this at school, even though I thought of it as a kids' entertainment programme! (It was one of the "quarter-to-twos", as we called them, the BBC's pre-school programming... as opposed to the "twelve o'clocks" which were on ITV.)
I remember this flashback or what lol
Yeah she does. She sounds just like her. I remember you and me with a crow and a squirrel in it!!! Love the reggae bit at the beginin though. It definately didnt sound like that as i remember it.
02:05 when Cosmo rips his own arm off with his mouth... WOAH! ARE THEY PUPPETS??? Cheers for the spoiler alert(!) That's another childhood dream shattered...
Just liked my own comment from 5 years ago(?!) 😮 spooky
Where's Gary Wilmot now? Childhood legend
He does stage shows now.
Gary Wilmott showing off his plums. On children's television?
I liked Dunken the dragon
Me too but he got sandwiched between popular Alice and Crow then Cosmo and Dibbs- few remember him😢
Thanks for upload! How did you have this, were you working on the programme? Do you have the theme tune in high quality audio? thanks.
Do you have any videos of Duncan the dragon
Jeez! Where you'd find this? the dusy BBC archives?
Nah it's Jeni Barnett.
She doesn't look like that any more. She's whaled out.
She regularly appears on tat during daytime TV like Loose Women and The Wright Stuff. I thought she presented some cooking show for a while as well.
She sounds exactly the same though.
The opening song sounds like it was done by UB40
It was
How come cosmo is half scouse half jamaican?
Nah, I'm not having that. The ears are too big for hippos, surely?
Was that theme tune by UB40?
It was
HA HA! Where did you get this from??
the puppet at 2:30!
I dont remember the you and me tune being reggae!?! And where is the crow and the squirrel??? Is that Caroline Quinten from men behavin badly??
Jeni Barnett is the lady not Caroline Quentin
Dibs, said... A, bad, word... ... ... It CAN'T be true!??
(Please answer and tell me I'ts not true Dibs... You didn't really say that bad word did you!?)
I LOVE YOU DIBS DON'T KILL THE DREAM!!!
This show makes me feel sick! 🤢
I think the theme tune is quite sexual if you think about the lyrics ;).
