  • Spread over 17 different countries, there are currently more than 70,000 7-Eleven stores in the world. Whether you want a coffee and a snack, a gasoline refill, or a taste of their beloved Slurpee, you can generally get them at any time of the day, and on any day of the week. The brand is one of the most recognizable features of US shopping culture, and they are omnipresent in many Asian countries too!

In India, we have the same convenient store by the name of 24-7 store, it focuses mainly on the affluent segment of the population right now, but it started in a great way, since it was the only store in the entire market to stay open all through the night, you can purchase anything you need at night other than medicines at these stores.
Truly changed the market experiences of Indian Customers

The 24/7 in India are very expensive but very well supplied. Of rice alone they have about 50 different kinds. I am from Europe and spend some months there as an Exporter. Have also been to 7/11 in the Caribbean and South Americans counties. I never knew the story.

I have been a 7-11 customer since my early childhood in the 70's. My local store was closed in December of 2022 to be remodeled. Here it is now April 2023, and just a couple more touches are needed before they have their grand re-opening. Can't wait. Summer time is just around the corner, and a Slurpee is in order for that day.

I'm not much of a capitalist, but I found this to be a very interesting historical, global interest and marketing video. Great job! Japanese companies do seem to improve businesses when they're involved. I'm in Cambodia now and miss stopping by 7-Eleven in Thailand to pick up Thai Milk Tea before teaching at a university. Easy microwave food could be picked up there for lunch on the go. Did a little research while watching this and found out Cambodia got it's first 7-Eleven in Phnom Penh last year and Siem Reap where I live and Laos (where I'm headed) are getting their first ones soon. Quit a lot of growth for the company since I use to visit U Tote M and 7-Eleven in the US. Surprised this video caught my attention. Thanks!

I remember when Slurpees came out in the 60s.They were 10 cents, the same price a bottled soft drink was in a vending machine. They only had two flavors at first. Cherry and cola. I am still a Slurpee fan.

That story about the ice is amazing.
I read that in the 19th century ships would take ice from Canada to London in big blocks, so big that they did not all melt during the journey

My great grandfather owned and operated an ice company in North Platte Nebraska back in the 1890s. They would go out on the ice and cut out ice blocks, take them to an ice barn using sawdust to installa and then sell ice all summer.

Excellent video! I'd never heard that story before. I lived in the US for a while so I knew the brand. What I notice from your graphics is that there aren't so many in western europe and possibly none at all in the UK? Well I googled it and they didn't do well and have been bought out a couple of times

They used to have 50 7/11 stores in the UK but failed because of the immigrant corner shop hold at the time.

I cannot see why 7/11 couldn't leverage its brand awareness and pick a handful of markets that they could launch an upscale version with fresh food and beverage cafe's. I think that the models of Panera and Starbucks would serve their concept quite well.
In the Midwest US 7/11 has purchased the Speedway convenience store chain from Marathon petroleum. Speedway had an existing plan for a food and beverage service that closely resembles my model, except that it currently isn't being executed as fully as it could be.

In my area all 7-11' s are dumps. Stuff they pass off as pizza taste like cardboard. Several times I was thinking g of purchasing a hot dog. Some of the unidentifiable products have been under heat lamps so long they look more like a petrified rock or very old long prune. Every time Wawa opens up within a few blocks of a 7-11 the 7-11 closes within a year due to greatly reduced business.

And yet do U totems existed at the same time as the 7-Elevens and were often in competition with each other, The only exception being when they were out in the middle of nowhere, like in Arizona dessert roads where they doubled for a gas station as well as an everything mini Mart.

The reason for 7/11 was because many worker at the factory so tire to fix them self coffee or lunch so convenient store fix them lunch box and morning coffee as a upscale worker looking better than the peasant lunch box Cary into work place and they bring essential to the neighborhood kid because most of the had no drivers license so go to 7/11 in the neighborhood is a pastime for children and in Houston they even had ge room inside 7/11 for children to place keep store look excited and saved the retiree the trip on car and cost of insurance
