I think the personal health and stress relief aspect is perhaps the most important and overlooked one. A lot of people think that working super long hours, not sleeping, trying to deal with as much as you can handle and being under constant pressure can help them get ahead. But if you're too stressed and not taking good care of yourself, the quality of your work will suffer and you'll be more prone to making mistakes and bad judgments. Just a few days of not getting enough sleep can really hurt your memory and screw up your blood pressure, making you more prone to anxiety.
lol the real secret is it's not about working hard either and insane hours.....too many people do busy work or stuff that adds nothing. You only work hard at that which overwhelmingly produces the most/ best results and cut the junk. Results do not fall in a normal distribution as people think they do
@@MrMawnsterThis is such an underrated point of view. Hard work is easy to come by in our economy. Creativity is not. Interesting. I share some of these observations, but must also say that with a certain degree I can say that some of those habits are the consequence of wealth. Not the reason. When you have ample money, you can dedicate your free time to volunteering because you don't need to struggle to pay the rent. When you have ample income (especially from multiple sources) you stress less and be positive all the time. You already made it in life, of course you are positive. I know plenty of people who are rude, unmannered, go to bed very late at night (traders, crypto, programming or what not), dress poorly. eat junkfood and never work out that are much more succesfull than I am. So I'm also a little skeptical about the type of people / area / subculture that were interviewed.

Mr. Boyle, as an expression of my thanks to you for this particular video... Terrific video Patrick. Thankfully I find that I am doing just about all of them, so this let's me know I am doing the right things. I bought both of the recommend books and will buys yours too. Keep up the great work!!!
Hey Patrick. Can you make a video on how can one score a Job or internship in a hedge fund? What are the requirements and how do you apply to these jobs...
Happy New Year! I found this book has the vibe of the "7 habits of highly effective people". I buy into most points but not all, I especially don't buy into the 'toxic' positivity attitude. These observations are also relatives to only to the social structure of their time and situation as well. But overall it is a great book. Time to set some goals for the new year!
Positive doesn’t necessarily mean you’re walking around with a smile all day. Positivity is a state of mind. It means believing in yourself & knowing how to seize opportunities. Just my two cents.
This video would be beneficial for anyone looking to be more successful in any aspect of life. Most of these are no suprise, the hard part is in the doing it everyday. For myself, I lack the discipline to workout every day and I think thats my biggest stuggle is not being lazy. However, some of the others on the list I am happy I can check off. For instance, I got rid of my TV over 9 years ago and that has been the #1 best decision I ever made. I read a lot more than the average person & the content I do watch on my phone is always something I search out that can help me grow & be beneficial in some aspect or another. I cannot recommend this enough!! People dont realize how many hours a day they waste on useless tv and then wonder whey dont have the braincells available to tackle larger issues. Also, cold showers should be a staple to your lifestyle. You will be amazed how fresh & clear your mind feels if you start each day with a cold shower it mentally refreshes you & you are able to tackle the days tasks with a lot more gun-hoe energy & have a extra pep in your step!!! Thank you again Patrick, for your amazing content! It cannot be overstated enough how refreshing it is to find your channel & to be able to indulge in listening & learning from a man of your statue. It is our honor to have the likes of yourself on youtube!!! In a world with so much mediocre & mindnumbing content plaguing the internet/tv, it is a rare treat indeed when a channel like yours comes up out of nowhere & offers higher learning. Thank you!!!!
Thanks for making this video. Such a concise overview of this topic. Will definetly be coming back to this video with a notebook in hand over the next days and weeks.
Im multi millionaire , cash + real market value in estate (Im married with 2 kids, my wife didnt had a penny when we married). I dont owe loans to anyone , estate is paid in full. Problem is (or is it ??) I dont feel like millionaire ( not like those you see on videos with flashy material life). I'm the same person as I was at 18y old , just my swearing is less. ( I had foul language habits as teenager ) .I didnt inherit my money. In fact my parents are alive and well , and DONT EVEN KNOW I'm millionaire (this is crazy sht right here ). I made the money myself , all taxed , all legal. 20 years ago I had only $1000 in my pocket, and no bank account. My goal was not money but to grow professionally myself in specific tech industry in loved ( and still do ). Money came as byproduct of my efforts . As said in the video and many books I continue even to this day to educate myself in everything I'm interested in . I have been poorly educated in finances when I was in my sub 30s and missed alot of opportunities. ( missed to grow my money ( and not lose some )). Financial education is a must even if money is not available initially, this is what I teach my kids now ( which are teens ). I play soccer ( im no professional ) and I find the sport very helpful for my mental state . Love to talk to positive people ( smart or not doesnt matter to me ). I was horrible judge of character through the years ( have misjudged people ). Money give me options now how to live my life but i dont feel rich. If you see me on the street likely you think Im average Joe with average wage regular job living from paycheck to paycheck .

I would love to have seen your input from what you know from your clients or what do you do. Do you read every day? Do you work out every day? What volunteering do you do? etc,: What time do you wake up? We want to have real-life stories , examples ex. Waking up early is not working when you have 3 kids. First Timer here, and I think I'll stay awhile. I have been intrigued about how successful (not necessarily cash type) 'get there'. So, I must reconcile that they are constrained by the human limitations everyone else is AND the reality that almost all of them overcame the very same mundane obstacles...they very same obstacles that most other people use for excuses. So I boiled all of this 'positive talk', calendar keeping, health/fitness, yadayadayada (nearly classifies as Reality TV on in it's own right..addicting, and ultimately time wasting) to what I think is the "...ability to observe oneself during the micro-decisions of each moment..."( and I mean CONTINUOUSLY). In my opinion, the tendency to do this self observation DRIVES all the other things we call Habits - both constructive and otherwise. The self-help gurus fall short of giving full-throated examples and explanation of the cathartic conversion (painful) from whatever your mental ailment (procrastination loops) is - into how (what are the inner conversations) successful-path people self correct continuously during micro decision moments. To me, there is ONLY one source of this information. And until these people open up their inner dialog, however crazy, then the rest of us flounder.
What about intellectualism? Are millionaires more intellectual than poorer people? Do they engage in intellectual pursuits like reading philosophy, science, mathematics and language? Aside from few academics who managed to become popular and used it to sell their books and talks, it seems to me to that successful millionaires who get things done don't spend much time on abstract theoretical ideas. They are much more concrete.
Maybe not! Almost all tech billionaires have some form of interest in abstract theoretical ideas. A few investment billionaires are similar too. But ig it isn't a necessity but i would say on average the wealthy spend more time about abstract than an average person because well the wealthy are also well educated in general... there are exceptions but yeah they care about these things more tho.
@@sociologyphysics7293 That's true actually. Successful techies are almost always interested in abstract ideas. I don't know many that's why I forgot about them.
@@plainguy3567 He said in the video that they mostly read autobiographies of other successful people and history (I think he mentioned self-help books too). That's why I raised the question as I knew few highly successful people and they too like these sorts of books

Amazing video by the way im a new subscriber here and im loving the amazing information you deliver to us, and how much we appreciate you giving out the knowledge at times like these where everyone can benefit and move forward to a new beginning!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE 🎉 ✨
This was really interesting, particularly habits #7 and #13. Setting annual goals sounds something like making a New Year's resolution (although probably far more specific in nature), but setting _monthly_ goals is a new idea to me. That's... intriguing. It seems like one would have to posses a realistic understanding of their own capacity and limits to do this in a useful way, and more than anything they'd have to practice habit #7 - positivity. There has to be a balance between knowing your limits and believing that you really can succeed at anything you set out to do.
All are important but setting reasonable goals with a time limit. These got me going as I am a procrastinator by nature. Anyway, it changed my life for the better.
I set goals and make it a game out of achieving them. I don’t let people waste my time. I haven’t watched regular TV for more than 10 hours in just as many years. I watch a documentary every day. I watch for patterns in people as to me patterns are more predictable than logic.
Peter schiff has an unusual PoV when it comes to the economy, by no means Is its bad or incorrect but idk if its for me, have you tried implementing any of the things you have learnt about the economy from him & if so what we're the results? Genuinely curious.
I would say that Peter is a pretty smart guy with a good idea (also quite original and very honest) but his thinking about economics is not very nuanced
@@mariuszszypa4239 Agreed. Anyone that comes to economics with a priori ideological assumptions is just not worth listening to because everything is post rationalised into their world view, and leads you away from the Truth ultimately. That being said, I don't mind listening to someone with a bias, as long as they are self aware somewhat of their blindspots and have something interesting to say..
Love your content as a fellow mathematician and options trader. One BIG thing is that the people who are well to do, use their money to make more money as opposed to poor people who will buy a new car and renovate the kitchen. I used the capital I make from flipping houses to finance margin to trade options, still rent and do not own a car. Many people would be buying the sports cars and the house of their dreams but if you understand compounding you are ok delaying the gratification.

None of the rich people I know volunteer for charity work and most don't bother to read their work emails, never mind books. However, some other well known traits of rich people that you neglected to mention are: Habit 14 - Have extremely wealthy relatives, Habit 15 - Cheat at absolutely anything and everything, Habit 16 - Be super tight with their money for no particular reason, Habit 17 - Tax dodge, Habit 18 - Steal without being prosecuted, Habit 19 - Be a member of various 'old boys clubs' (to aid with the cheating and stealing), Habit 20 - Attain tax breaks or subsidies from the tax payer, Habit 21- Use insider trading to achieve guaranteed returns, Habit 22 - Be super arrogant and claim that all of your success is from habits 1 to 13, when they are actually from habits 14 to 22.
Curious how you define “successful.” I understand you to mean financial success generally, which is not unimportant, but very limited. I enjoy your videos. Thanks for your response.

I remember reading an article on this topic years ago and one of the best habits that I took away was networking. Networking is one of the most important skills a successful person can have. Forming and maintaining productive relationships is absolutely crucial.

I didn’t major in a science specialization in college; so I am reading and annotating a couple of biology textbooks in an effort to diversify my areas of knowledge. I don’t know what if anything I can do with this learning process, but my goal is to enhance my scientific literacy even if just a bear minimal. I also just have general learning and educational goals for my area of training (in finance and accounting).
Dealing with failure and one's own ignorance may be the most significant one. It helps to be taught to regard mistakes as a learning opportunity rather than an occasion for punishment and humiliation.

Great sentiment. I want to emulate this!
Hoping for help from a god is the equivalent of buying a lottery ticket
Perfect timing with 2021 starting, we could take up one or two of these habits, and leave a couple of the negative ones in 2020 Behind.
Thank you so much, Patrick, I have been enjoying your content since the podcast with coffeezilla, definitely, the world of podcasts has opened our eyes to new and very helpful things.
I do enjoy Dan Carlin Hardcore History, Joe Rogan Podcast, Tim Dillon Podcast, TimeIRL, Peak Prosperity, and Orange Pill.

Much love and great success with your hedge fund ❤️🔥
Very happy that I find your channel.
I wrote down my goals, usually I choose one goal per year , divided in 12 ( months) steps. It’s very simple but keeps me focus , in case I got distracted. Once I was broke, divorced single mother, now I have master degree, real estate and I manage my own portfolio.
1. Reading a specific number of books
2. Making a yearly plan which covers goals on physical, material, mental and spiritual aspects.
3. Specify a target on investment return.
4. Set target on income.
6. Recognize the good things that happened monthly and record them (be grateful)

Glad you like them! Hope you have a great 2021!
This was a very great video with interesting and real advice. Great to see a media person that doesn't just sell you a get-rich-quick scheme but tries to provide you useful and educational information without persuading his audience.
Happy New Year Professor! I love your content.
A podcast that might be of interest to you is Chat with Traders. I would also love to hear you on the podcast one day!
I'm so happy to start the new year with one of your videos Patrick. I've commented before and the same is still true: I absolutely love your channel.
Happy new year!
@@PBoyle And to you as well!
Keep up the good job. This video is useful. Thank you.
Mr. Boyle, as an expression of my thanks to you for this particular video... Allow me to contribute..."Once you START every-thing rolls alone much easier; becoming self perpetual, your vision becomes clearer and you are rewarded day one." With what? A powerful reward, "self respect and growing pride. "
Continued success to all.

Terrific video Patrick. Thankfully I find that I am doing just about all of them, so this let's me know I am doing the right things. I bought both of the recommend books and will buys yours too. Keep up the great work!!!
On a sunday evening with aloneness, guilt of not doing enough, I find this touches my heart.
Hey Patrick. Can you make a video on how can one score a Job or internship in a hedge fund? What are the requirements and how do you apply to these jobs...
Hi Calvin, did you see this one: czcams.com/video/UN4JUrHUw4k/video.html It is not specific to hedge funds, but all of the same ideas apply.
Read it years ago and liked it.
My goal, watch all Patrick videos, took frm, grow within my job, be better. Thank you for great video!

Hey Patrick, quality content we got here. Thank you very much. Hope you have a great 2021. :)
Thanks, you too!
I would love to have seen your input from what you know from your clients or what do you do.
Do you read every day? Do you work out every day? What volunteering do you do? etc,: What time do you wake up?
We want to have real-life stories , examples
ex. Waking up early is not working when you have 3 kids. I tried, ad the moment I woke u at 5, my kids woke up as well.
So I slept until 7, as well as my kids, and worked later at night. That was much more productive
Can you mane a video series on how the professional hedge fund manager decides to invest in a company ? What are the factors that he considers ? What thinks does he looks at ? Trends or strong financials ? value investing or growth investing ? Can you make videos on everything you know please ?
Hi, I have a few videos like that. The Merger Arbitrage one, The What is A Quant Trader Video, and then two videos on my Applied Portfolio Management Series that explain a variety of hedge fund strategies.
My goal is to pass my ACCA Foundations exams along with the CFA Institute Investment Foundations Program. I also need to get certified in Excel.
CAIA is good for alts
@@annajones9701 I was thinking of doing the Series 3 exams. Thanks for the recommendation. Will definitely add that to my list. DWL I wonder how many people would know what alts ie alternative investments more speculations are?
Wealth is a mindset; it's not a battle, it's a war that one must embrace.
Always excited when Vsauce puts out a new video! Thanks
VALUETAINMENT with Pat Bet-David is one of my absolute favorites. I have become fanatical about this material.
Fantastic video!
I would like to emphasise on the value of a daily "programe" or a checklist as Patrick says. I learned that in the army and it has added tons of value in my life ever since.
Annual goal: have 100k invested. Relentlessly pursuing this goal at the moment.
Love your videos for their informative content, clarity of concepts and your knowledge of finance.
Amazing video by the way im a new subscriber here and im loving the amazing information you deliver to us, and how much we appreciate you giving out the knowledge at times like these where everyone can benefit and move forward to a new beginning!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE 🎉 ✨
Thanks and welcome
Great video!!!!! Appreciate the info and thanks bunches!!!!! 💙💙
Happy new year !
Same to you!
Thank you I truly enjoy your casts...I Wish You A Very Happy New Year! HEALTH being first on my mind!
Very well made video. Shorter time frame is better for views and for the algorithm as well.

I listen to Peter Schiff's podcast. I have learned a lot about the economy

Habit 14, promote your self help book, by telling people that successful people read self help books.
That one put smile on my face.
Absolutely fantastic video!!! As a tool designer for Boeing I learned how important feedback is. Usually hold 3 design reviews before i give my tool design drawing to the checker / release. I designer a house for my family and had my wife sign concurrence on the drawings before the build.

You can tell that by the fact that he's understated, & considered, . the shonky ones are always bombastic..
None of the rich people I know volunteer for charity work and most don't bother to read their work emails, never mind books. However, some other well known traits of rich people that you neglected to mention are:
Habit 14 - Have extremely wealthy relatives,
Habit 15 - Cheat at absolutely anything and everything,
Habit 16 - Be super tight with their money for no particular reason,
Habit 17 - Tax dodge,
Habit 18 - Steal without being prosecuted,
Habit 19 - Be a member of various 'old boys clubs' (to aid with the cheating and stealing),
Habit 20 - Attain tax breaks or subsidies from the tax payer,
Habit 21- Use insider trading to achieve guaranteed returns,
Habit 22 - Be super arrogant and claim that all of your success is from habits 1 to 13, when they are actually from habits 14 to 22.
This comment should be on the top of the page.

When I was 37 and still in a job that I hated, I completed a Tony Robbins thirty day self improvement course. It did what it said on the box, and changed my life.
I remember reading an article on this topic years ago and one of the best habits that I took away was networking. Networking is one of the most important skills a successful person can have. Forming and maintaining productive relationships is absolutely crucial.
This is correct.
About 6 yrs ago I stopped hanging around negative friends who always pull me down and starting to hang around positive friends who were always encouraging me, it was a hard thing to do and get use to but it was the best decision of my life
I didn’t major in a science specialization in college; so I am reading and annotating a couple of biology textbooks in an effort to diversify my areas of knowledge. I don’t know what if anything I can do with this learning process, but my goal is to enhance my scientific literacy even if just a bear minimal. I also just have general learning and educational goals for my area of training (in finance and accounting).
Thank you! great content ❤

Dealing with failure and one's own ignorance may be the most significant one. It helps to be taught to regard mistakes as a learning opportunity rather than an occasion for punishment and humiliation.
